0.3.23 has been out for some days now, no idea why the forum pages still say 0.3.22. Try 0.3.23 it fixed some big problems for me on Linux. And the transaction fees are lower too.

I've run extremely high traffic forums before (1 million + posts / month) and silly restrictions like this don't help in the long run.

The best solution I came up with was to allow volunteers to moderate the forum, and try to be as permissive as possible to new users.

If there is a lot of spam then a crowdsourced solution is usually superior (i.e. allowing users to vote on messages as spam or helpful).

Due to a mass of trolling, only established posters are able to post in non-newbie sections. You are considered "established" if you have spent 4 hours online and have made 5 posts.

If you have really good posts, you can post a request for preemptive whitelisting in the appropriate topic.

Also, you must have made 1 post to send PMs.

Sorry to be so stupid (I can't help it  Grin)

What does "1 post to send PMs" mean !

Do you simply mean before being allowed out of this section I must make 5 posts and also send 1 Personal Message to someone ?

Again, sorry if this is a stupid question.

Lee.

. . . . . . . . . .

P.S. this forum doesn't reall work very well on Safari on OS X, lot's of Verification Errors / Time outs and stuff like that, had to move over to Firefox to actually post anything.

. . . . . . . . . .

P.P.S (!!) Surely with the 4 hour online requirment people just have to log in and leave themselves logged in until that requirement is met ? What I mean by that is that it is hardly a challenging requirement . . . ?

(I get the feeling all my questions here are stupid and/or are questions asked and answered a millions times before - go easy on me!!  Wink)

Except now I have to make empty messages of content to get those 5 posts created so i can really post where i want hah...

Actually I found you post highly stimulating, as existentially profound as it is nuanced in it's post modern zeitgeistian leanings.

(right, that's my third post, I think I will go to bed now).

No. In order to send a personal message, you must have made one post on the forum.

The "online time" is time actively browsing the forum.

What is defined as 'active'. I mean, how much inactivity on a page before the forum logs you out?

15 minutes.

Well these restrictions are not egregious.  I have seen forums where you must make 25 posts and be a member for a week before being allowed access to the main forums.

Yeah, I feel the same way, I am having issues with the flexible mining proxy that I can't get sorted out and now I have to wait for 4 hours(online) and 5 posts before I can even reply in that thread.

This increases trolling if you ask me. now ppl have to 'spam' 5 posts to get somewhere.
