I understand the restrictions due to spam etc but it would be great to have someway to post to a topic still but it needs approval or something to show maybe from someone on that topic or something?

Spam will always get through as people always seem to find a way with it. having people that make the topics moderate their own topicand not allow new members to post new topics for a while way work.

it's possible with the massive influx of new users that this would simply take too many man hours.

I can understand the restrictions but it would've been nicer to 'punish' the spammers/scammers than to punish all newbies right away:)

I agree.  I've been a member for several months and just haven't said much so I didn't have enough posts when they made this change to be able to post.
I guess it would take too much time to review and "approve" all the newbie posts though.

I guess. I joined the site to be able to participate in the new exchange thread that started yesterday, but unfortunately can't participate as I'm restricted to this little sand box, apparently until I spam post enough to become a Jr. Member or something.

I run three blog sites and an SMF forum myself, so I know the challenges of dealing with spam. Can't say I'm impressed with this answer, tho.

I'm so glad it was reduced from 50, apparently.

I have a background in running forums, and 50 sounds like a ridiculous amount.

I have also just noticed that the online time is "paused" when the browser window/tab is not in "focus." I need about 1.5 hrs to go before I can post where I want. Roll Eyes

LOL, I went to reply to a post for a service that was offered and found myself cloistered here, but seriously I can see how a mass of spamming bullshit would need some kind of counter measure using human behaviour.

I usually lurk on forums, but if there comes a post I want to reply to, I don't want to find that I can't. So in effect, I spam this forum part to increase my post count.  Undecided

This is kind a frustrating but oh well. Can live with it.

Why not add some captchas to registration page though? One repcaptcha and one with questions. Should cut out spam completely. I assume right now you'll still get spam but only to newbie section.
