An expensive lesson is: zcash and zcoin is not transparent, if hackers can find the bug, so they can get unlimited coins to dump. I am afraid this coin is dangerous to buy right now.

My question is.

Why did it take so long to see the existence of extra coins?

Another question.

Coinmarketcap shows just over 1,00,000 coins. Is that number right?

Either way, 350,000  extra coins were sold. Which means no one was really paying attention.

The market will react extremely hysteric, as always ...  Roll Eyes Without a reason!

But there is a reason.
Supposedly Zcoin is better than Zcash because extra coins can't be hidden.
Yet 25% to 30% extra coins were minted and no one noticed until now.

What hashrate are you getting with sgminer?

I have about 30 kH on each MSI Gaming X 8G RX480 (Win7 X64, 16.9.1 drivers, ETH-way modded BIOS, 1303/2200).

If you want to know more details about the exploit, you should sign in on the official slack channel https://zcoinofficial.slack.com
Was a
Code:
"if (txout.nValue == libzerocoin::"

instead of
"if (txout.nValue = libzerocoin::"

By the way some guys on the channel reported some screenshot with volume of the coin growing, and also price in other open market is going up, then maybe nothing is lost when bittrex reopen  Wink
If goes down, i buy more like a crazy, if goes up....i'm done with that!

It seems the suspicious coin forging's carrying on. Check block 21704 out.
Seems they are forging at the number of 40.** one time, and changing them into one anonymous 100coins out.

Fortunately the price is back, no worries now, we can stick with mining the new coins, but this incident was unexpected, dev team should work harder.
