ok guys so i ordered 1 riser just to get a feel for how they are, and i have a few questions. So let me explain the set up i want
So i am going to connect my mining GPU's to my main system, but in a separate case. To do this i currently have a 2m usb cable (will be shortened down to the smallest i can use)
The x1 riser plugs into my current system, the usb cable goes out the back of the case, and into another (see pic in question 1 for an example), and then into the x16 riser.

The separate case will have its own power supply connected to the gpu's and the power supply will have forced to power on (a jumper across 2 of the motherboard pins)
This should then power the gpu's, and while my main system is on, cause the gpu's to be recognised and be fine to mine. So now my questions;


1) Currently i have the riser mounted in an old computer case, with an old AMD gpu in it, HERE is a picture
 Now that is just a proof of concept to show it fits. But the back of the gpu is hovering off the bottom of the case, so when the case stands up, it doesn't seem very safe.

So would you; a) use that case and try it  b) buy a mining case for like £55 and just stick the gpus and power supply in there or c) get a frame made so the gpu's stand up right with the usb cable coming out the bottom

2) with the gpu's forced to power on, if i boot my system after the gpu's are powered up is this going to cause issues?
2a) and if i decide im not mining and want to shut the gpu's off, i would need to shutdown the main system to turn the gpu's off correct? And the same for if my system was on and i wanted to turn them back on?

Just need these answering and then i can get ordering :p

I don't think the system will boot, if one card is not powered.
(I forgot once to plug the 6/8pins connectors of one card, got a message at boot time telling me the card wasn't powered, it didn't go any further)

But it should be fine if i have the cards booted before i boot the system? This bit is confusing to me, as i cant move my system to another case (watercooling)

And i cant really afford to have another entire system running aswell as the gpus

Hi I didn`t get much , but , first in the case the gpu-s will be too close and will start overheating , you have to blow on them with something.
Second if you want to turn the gpu-s off just disable them in device manager.
Now if you haven`t disabled the gpus and you turn off the power on them , the system will freeze and reboot... I tried it my self hehehe.
But of course you have to try it yourself
Tell me exactly what you want me to try and i will report , cause i dont get what you want?

I have another case i could have used, has a monster 240mm fan that blows over the gpus.

What sort of space would you give between the cards? And they run fine in an open rig with no fans on them?

Atleast one pci slot and the case shpuld be open , but it depends on the card fan , i have evga cards that have only one fan and they can`t make it well when the gpus are very close.

Even in an open case you might want some airflow over the cards, although if they're 750tis then they run pretty cool anyway.

It cost less than £20 all in and was dead easy to do.  I do have a desk fan blowing across it to keep the cards cool however they are R9 290s so run a lot hotter than 750tis.

Won't work, you need some sort of dual psu adapter to make the start at the same time. Easy to make your own, with a long cable lol

I have a dual adapter from my current case (its huge, dont ask) so i guess i could extend the cable for the second psu so they boot up together

Performance has gone down, and power usage swings wildy with HVC now...I don't get it.
This is ccminer v0.4, 780 and 750 ti:

After running anything past v0.1, performance degraded, from 16mh/s to 14mh/s, and nothing else changed.
I used to get a constant stream of YAY!'s at 15-16mh/s mining at the same HVC pools.
I don't get it...and it sucks

As an update to my questions;

I am going to try and get a custom frame made, full open air, but i will be having it so the gpu's fasten at the top, with the riser bolting to a back plate
I am going to get my spare dual psu cable extended to reach the second psu.
And if i dont want them on, i will be unplugging the risers entirely from the main rig

God i think that my MSI GTX 770 is dying, the fan is making an awful noise and vibrating.. Maybe i pushed it too far setting the fan at 70% 24/7

you need to edit ccminer.vcxproj outside of visual studio, or within visual studio right click on on project name and go into reference (but it is not really easy from there)

btw: the 15Mhah/s, was that for one card or several ?
