Every time I go to the bank I like to ask them if they have heard of BTC, most of the time the answer is no.
I do ask a lot of people about BTC.. a restaurant near me.. near ish use to accept it as well, I asked to pay with it, they said it no longer exists.. .... ...

Most people I find still have zero idea what BTC is unless they are friends with the likes of us.. I don't think we are even in early adoption stage.. we are in "the chasm" .. it would appear we are going to survive though... appear anyways..

I dunno just something I have taken note of.

Pretty much everyone that has heard of it assumes it's worth like 5 cents and shits themselves when I say it's $1k (Cad) .. we are in very interesting times with BTC.

Do you really ask a lot of people about it? I always assume most over 40 doesn't know
and most under 30 do not have the money to be interested. seems like there is only a small window to get into bitcoin. if you are not into it and/or finance then you will probably not be to interested in bitcoin if you hear it the first time, regardless the age.

The number of people who know about it is low. In addition to the fact that few people are aware of this, there is an even smaller portion of people who understand the tech and its impacts on the economy. But it will not take long until the number of people who know and use Bitcoin increases, the Bitcoin network effect is real.

I agree that we are at an earlier stage of the adoption cycle than most people here tend to think. The perception of people within a group of shared convictions tends to be distorted regarding the number of other people share the same convictions. The simple reason is that Bitcoiners tend to have more friends that are also Bitcoiners or at least open towards Bitcoin. In addition, Bitcoiners spend much more time on following Bitcoin news that regular people. The result is a huge overestimation of the current impact of Bitcoin in the real world.

If I had to guess, I'd say that we are still below 1% of the total potential in terms of adoption - not even having reached "the chasm". However if the right circumstances align and Bitcoin becomes mature in terms of usability I think that mass adoption will be much faster than the early growth we've experienced until today.

I should be pretty obvious to most people who walk outside of their houses and talk to people on a daily basis that there are definitely a ton of people that don't know what Bitcoin is, what it does or how it is used. I'm not sure how someone could be so naive as to believe that everyone knows what Bitcoin is.

As for financial institutions not knowing what Bitcoin is; I'm 99% sure most employees don't know what it is, but the companies themselves likely know what it is.

You won't get anything if a try for ask about bitcoin with their employees but the result will be different if we were asking about that with his head division or someone was contributing to their development institution like corporate leaders.
Most people I find still have zero idea what BTC is unless they are friends with the likes of us.. I don't think we are even in early adoption stage.. we are in "the chasm" .. it would appear we are going to survive though... appear anyways..
it wasn't becoming the common thing in our community, it's normal.

Seems you are advertising bitcoin in your city and the community should be thankful to you Smiley
I don't ask people if they accept bitcoin or not because I don't want to spend them neither to insist them to invest because they would be afraid investing in something online.

Not surprising that they haven't heard of it. None of my family members know much about it either except for the fact that it has some value. The only people who follow the internet news would have likely heard about it. Its very rare to have a new article about it too.

Yeah it is true that only people who are using the internet have likely heard about bitcoin. Here in my country, not all people here have the access in the internet. And not all who access the internet have the knowledge about bitcoin. Maybe for now, many but not everyone has already known bitcoin. And maybe it will take more years for bitcoin to be known by everyone in this planet.

You have to also ask yourself if there is really a need for them to know what Bitcoin is? Will it really help their lives become better than it is now? They receive their salaries in fiat, their savings are in fiat, all they need and want can be bought in fiat/credit card. So is there really a need for them to use Bitcoin? No, unless he or she is a drug addict wanting to buy drugs safely from the dark market or he or she wants the company of an escort or gigolo from the postings at Backpages.

Bitcoin is better used for illegal stuff. Accept it, that is Bitcoin's main market.

Less than ten years is still an early adaptation of bitcoin. i do think that bitcoin will be split further more in decimals to accommodate everyone in future . People who know about bitcoin is less than a million and people who really use it are far less than that.It will take time for everyone to get accustomed to.

Now the word digital currency had started to roll on more conversation, as well people had started to talk about these on financial debate programs, but this has been never explained to the public technically. So soon we can see countries getting into complete use of digital currencies. When such incident happens people might understand easily what it is and the accessibilities.

I see that majority of voices in this thread say that we are in the early stage of adoption/innovation/after bug fixing period and great time will come.

Why are so sure about it when even top bitcoin figures don't believe this future?

Some examples: Mike Hearn, former bitcoin developer - "Bitcoin is a failed experiment"

Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire - "Nobody will be using bitcoin in 5 to 10 Years"

Why ordinary people should follow when leaders have no faith?

People who know about bitcoin is less than a million and people who really use it are far less than that.It will take time for everyone to get accustomed to.

And even ten years is not even enough to let the people know things about bitcoin. Because just think about of how many people are living in this world.

The world is too wide to explore with bitcoins but because of technology we may say that it is going to be fast.

It is just going to depend on how we are going to advertise bitcoin to our friends with the use of different social media platforms and blogs.

That is a good way to let others know what bitcoin is.

Anyone know where is located Nauru Island or Belize in this world? No.. No they do not
Anyone know what is their currency? No.. They do not
Anyone know the previous president of Philippines? No.. They do not

Good reply...

People can see Bitcoin in the news but they forgot because they don't use it, maybe if Bitcoin start to appears 10 times a day for a year so people can remember.

I was imagining the OP asking random people in the streets  Cheesy Maybe they know BTC but they thinked you are promoting some cloud mining(ponzi schemes)  Cheesy jk, I don't think 10% of the world knows the cryptocurrencies.

I know people from various fields - even IT - that don't know and don't care about Bitcoin (even if I tried to tell them).
So what?
We are still a niche and this give us the time to accumulate. They will miss that chance.

We are close friends of a family in our area, where the wife is a bank manager of one of the local banks. She has gone to some seminars about Bitcoin, that was hosted by the bank. She says, they do not fear Bitcoin, because banks have the support of the government and Bitcoin is still in a grey area.

She is also confident that Bitcoin would never disrupt the banking system, but it might grab a percentage of their customers. The banks will always have a role, whenever fiat is involved. They have the monopoly on fiat with the help from governments. ^hmmmm^

There is a big difference between someone who actually knows about Bitcoin and someone who just heard about it, surprisingly enough I met many people from the second category but the problem is that their opinion about Bitcoin is manipulated by mass media and the lies they spread, I don't think any of them will use Bitcoin in the near future.
But I agree with OP that we are still in an early stage, younger generations will be more open minded than the current one and we will see much more people using cryptos in the forthcoming years.

Yeah, that`s true.Nobody knows about bitcoin and most of the people don`t know

how bitcoin or the blockchain works.

We have to promote btc more.

i am not sure about that. china and brazil are populated with a big number of people. so if let us say 100,000 people know about bitcoin in Brazil and 100,000 in china. the for every one that knows about bitcoin you will meet 2,000 people in brazil that do not know it. and in china it would be even over 1 in 10,000. so when you are going door to door to ask about bitcoin you will have a hard time there, unless you stumble into a bitcoin meeting.
