Every time I go to the bank I like to ask them if they have heard of BTC, most of the time the answer is no.
I do ask a lot of people about BTC.. a restaurant near me.. near ish use to accept it as well, I asked to pay with it, they said it no longer exists.. .... ...

Most people I find still have zero idea what BTC is unless they are friends with the likes of us.. I don't think we are even in early adoption stage.. we are in "the chasm" .. it would appear we are going to survive though... appear anyways..

I dunno just something I have taken note of.

Pretty much everyone that has heard of it assumes it's worth like 5 cents and shits themselves when I say it's $1k (Cad) .. we are in very interesting times with BTC.

It's the same in my country.
We don't have many BTC users, and just a few merchants accept Bitcoin offline.
In whole country we have just 2 BTC ATM.
Most people don't know about bitcoin and don't care, honestly.
In fact, many people are even scared to use Internet banking or to pay for something online.
I hope that this situation will change but it will not happen overnight.

Same here. Nearly no ATMs available, the next one is a few hundered miles away.
Although some people have heared about bitcoin, I only know one other person who actually tried it once.
And I can not remember having seen a sign in any shop that payment with bitcoins is available.
So there is still a lot of work to do.
Let's get it on!

  It's me!!!

They were shocked because they thought that you can only buy 1 btc, 2btc, 3btc and not just fractions of it. But making people shocked about a subject makes them interested about it. I think that it's a good thing that you're asking about bitcoins to people. The person you talked would assume that he/she is already late on the "trend" and bitcoin is a new thing. He/she will feel like he/she has to do something about it and thus conduct research about bitcoin. I would suggest that you go to a university and ask people about it. It's more likely that you found a guy that knows bitcoin there since college students tend to look for work online.

So this means the adoption or awareness of bitcoin on your place is less compared on other countries or places on which they really differ. Some countries have high adoption of bitcoin on which most people or majority on the community do already  knew bitcoin which is a good indication of popularity of bitcoin, same as your i do always ask people on any random places and i got the same answer which is "NO"

In my country the popularity of bitcoin is very low and the people dont even get proper internet nowadays. People are below poverty line and are least bothered about some cyber currency. Hence the acceptance is low here in my city but some other cities have been using it recently. In any case bitcoin is growing and more people will gradually accept it alongside its transactions but it will take time.

Bitcoin had been popular on TV and in the news in 2013. Bloomberg shows Bitcoin every day many times on the TV Channel when the currency and commodities prices show up. People heard of it but many do not know what it is about and how can it be used in our advantage. I have asked a few times too if I could pay in Bitcoin at a few shops but nobody really is interested in it. So I have to just let the time pass and people will join in.

Yes this is the fact and I would say we are in adoption stage and we have yet to reach big milestone. I have almost 800+ friends on facebook and I can say roughly 30 of them have heard about bitcoin. We must contribute in the growth of bitcoin by building awareness on our own level by telling friends and family about bitcoin and crypto currency technology and should not focus only on acquiring bitcoins.

Hey a fellow Canadian! Did you get the freaking 10 inches of snow too? Lol.

Anyways, I talk to lots of people about bitcoin. My family all knows about it and has since I got involved with bitcoin but not a single one uses it. None of th understand anything about it. It's kind of ridiculous in my mind because I have lots of males in my family and it's mostly males that are interested in bitcoins! I think they just don't see the need or the point yet so they'll adopt later when they have a reason to.

Maybe I'll give a paper wallet with 0.01BTC on it for Christmas or something. I'm assuming if they own some bitcoins that should help them want to use it. $10 is $10 lol. If I got $10 in something strange currency I don't know about I'd try to figure out how I can use it.

Agree with the OP, I think a fairly significant % of people have heard about bitcoin must most have no real clue about its inner workings, its uses or even where to buy couns from.

Most people think bitcoin is just 'nerd money' or 'internet money to buy drugs'.

It's sad really, we need so much more adoption to get to where we want to be.

I think that bitcoin is not widely known, and even less understood.
I can count about three people I know who are aware what you can ackieve with bitcoins, bot not more.
In my oppinion the knowledge about bitcoin occurs concentrated in some places, like here in the forum or on bitcoin related meetings.
That's why sometimes it seems bitcoin is widely known.
But if you look at the global population I'm relatively sure that only 0.1% of the people know more about bitcoin than just it's name.

Most people only know what the TV told them to know. If the media does not talk about bitcoin, people do not know anything about it except some enthusiasts. If (media) tell them that is bad and is used for illegal activities and tax evasion only this is what people believe. Very few will look for and will be more interested about bitcoin progress and how their life will change if they adopt it. Furthermore if for some time price goes down people not only loose their interest but will not visit and post in this forum.

Nope, only a small percentage of population in this world knows about bitcoin and mostly those people who are using online transaction. If you will try to analylze, the population of the poor in our world is very hug, so I presume this people have no idea about bitcoin as they are more focus on their needs.

I think bitcoins are not really known by people, Here in our country Bitcoins are not really popular, Most of my Friends got knowledge on Bitcoins from me. I was the one who teach them how to earn and what is bitcoins. I also do not know what is bitcoins. Till such time that i saw an advertisement about bitcoins. I admit bitcoins is not easy to learn, You have to make a research before you fully understand the flow on bitcoins. I also tried to visit some forum discussing about bitcoin.

This just shows us that there's not enough information about bitcoin being circulated around. The problem here is there's no central agency who can do the advertising and PR works for bitcoin. Only the big exchanges can afford to make an ad featuring bitcoin and it is not being seen by the masses. The gamblers, especially the ones who are online are the ones who know much about bitcoin. I got to know more about a bitcoin from a friend ho is into gambling and I have since tried to bring to the awareness of my friends but only a few have shown real interest in finding out more.

It is true that we are not seeing any exponential growth in bitcoin price as well as number of merchants accepting it, but if you look at normal adoption cycle for any new tech

I think bitcoin is in Early adopters phase, in which period only few people know and use bitcoin also only few merchants try to be early adopters and start accepting it. In next 5-10 years we may be in Early majority and Late majority period in which we may see exponential growth in both price of bitcoin and number of near by shops accepting bitcoin.

Few of the people that really search the internet every day knows about bitcoin and fewer are the ones that actually use it , because they either think of it as a useless thing just like any other thing on the internet or they find it complicating just like i did at first but then i kept searching and found it really a good thing , but also the lack of support for the bitcoin by the community made it even harder to come across it  but i think that in the near future everyone will know about it

Even the people who heard about it , there should be a just little portion of them realy understand how BTC System works.

So ,we can say , bitcoin still has huge potential.

I agree that we lack the support. We don't promote bitcoin on TV, on Facebook, or any other social media site. There's a lot of rich people because of bitcoin but here we don't see that much advertisements encouraging people to find out what is bitcoin.

As a bitcoin user, it should only be normal to hype bitcoin up by showing to the public that you support it but at the same time, it's kind of awkward to approach a stranger and encourage them to start studying bitcoins. The only bitcoin advertisements going on are the advertisements of bitcoin-related companies which aren't focused on supporting bitcoins but their company itself.

Here most people have heard about it and the blockchain technology has passed the news several times.
But having heard about it and knowing what it is, is different. People here do know the value and the unpredictability of the currency, from which I think it is holding them back to look deeper in it.
Yes it is very different since heard about bitcoin can always people disregard about it. They will always forget about the use of bitcoin, the purpose of bitcoin and what benefits can we get from it. While knowing bitcoin is too different from heard about bitcoin, Because if you really know what is bitcoin, we'll even if you become an old person, you can't forget it because it is for a long term idea.

Yes maybe everyone heard about bitcoin. But the thing is, the only heard about it, but theres a big possibility that they just will neglect it. Not all people knows the use of bitcoin, not all people knows the benefits can get by the users and the important of it. But learning and using bitcoin is a life long learning, no one will forget even your were become old.
