Based on what it has been seen among the wide array of altcoins such as development, innovation, and security issues, what altcoins might survive in the future?

In my opinion, I think that the only ones prone to survive would be good old altcoins such as Litecoin and Dogecoin, but I may be wrong.

Nevertheless, I would like to know your opinion about this as well as any altcoin that might be worth holding onto for the long term.  Grin

There are few altcoins that might survive in the future, such as the pioneering old altcoin like dogecoin and litecoin, even the Monero, ethereum, nem or wbb have a bright future in my perception and understanding only, though we had our own privilege  to express our own choice altcoin.
I agree for monero litecoin and dogecoin but for ethereum i do not know if they can stay long since we are heard about the hack issue before.. and the other altcoin you mention i really do not heard them.. the top 3 for me litecoin XMR and dogecoin even the dogecoin is gradually decrease its still stay alive and active.

those you mentioned actually are the ones that might not survive, just think about their competitors that are continuously being innovated. its ethereum that will actually stay due to the tokens using the network. just look at the coinmarketcap, its eth that's above those you mentioned. Eth will be used by more tokens later. ITs a platform war, that is why dev teams are into platforms.

With new coins in more platforms war rather then who will be better. It really hard for every new coin to be good or create even some sign that it was good in development or something else. Coin so far made huge standards and for every new developer it will be very hard to be even close to any of them.

I call classics the most popular and lasting coins over the last years. There are old coins like FTC and NVC but they are not that popular right now. They just passed away.

Agree. Even though these classic coins are passed away, they're the most secure ones by providing the most hashrate and network nodes, when compared to other altcoins. That is what makes them a stable means of transacting, in my own opinion, with other people without the risks of 51% attacks, and other factors where smaller network coins have faced.

However, some if not all the classic coins, suffer from active development, which would render them obsolete when compared to other altcoins with advanced features like BitShares, and Ethereum. In the end, it would be up to the community of each coin, to give their support to the same, making it successful in the long term. Just my opinion.  Smiley

Big problem here for classic coin is developing. If they somehow could manage this it would be great for them sure that then price for them could go higher then as it is now and im sure that then it will have more support. Mainly is that most of them left and focus on some other coins or project that will give them some amount of money or BTC for the job.

Exactly. Classic coins lack constant development, which in turn, could render them obsolete as other altcoins tend to provide better features and usability. The only thing though, is that most classic coins have bigger hashrate and security when compared against new altcoins, but other than that, they won't go far unless they provide through innovation.

Among the classic coins that are relatively stable are Litecoin and Dogecoin. Especially, Litecoin since it has always been seen as Silver to Bitcoin's Gold. Hopefully, once LTC activates SegWit, it would spark in price getting the attention of everyday people, once more. The way I see it, Litecoin is ideal for processing transactions quickly, while Bitcoin serves as a store of value. Just sharing my thoughts.  Smiley

I read that practical quantum computers will be available in 5 years. Blockchain will not be secure anymore, so I think coins based on DAG are gonna survive.

Well, governments always find out how to "bypass" certain limitations, and it would only be a matter of time before they make use of quantum computers to break Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies encryption. It may put at risk the long-term survival of altcoins, as well as the pioneer cryptocurrency.

But in the meantime, we can enjoy all the benefits that Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies provide. Depending on your use (store of value or everyday transactions), there is an ideal cryptocurrency for it. I think that that in general, the altcoins that remain in the top 10 market cap rankings are prone to survive.

Most recently, Dash has been increasing in value which is a good sign for those long-term holders of it. The only thing that I'm concerned with is that it would become more expensive to be able to get 1000 Dash for a masternode. Just sharing my thoughts.  Smiley

The current wallet already has a quantum resistance. Currently all of the bitcoin wallet were generating from SHA256 and I think it's have the quantum resistence. But NSA has given an awareness about SHA 256 is not safe again to use. I don't think if it is true.

Quantum is really hard to get a real. Rimped and SHA 512. It looks good for the next generation of the wallet.

With SHA 2 family will be broken and I think SHA 512 it's next generation.

SHA 256, SHA 384 both are having 128bit security > NSA recomend SHA 384 with better quantum resistance but i don't believe it > because quantum still an experimental in my opinion.

I would choose Ethereum, Monero and Decred as surviving coins. Ethereum and monero are older coins. They both have good marketcap.Decred has good road map and devs are bringing good developments. I think Decred is the  most under valued coin.

Great Choices mate. Just that I will replace Decred with Stratis. Don't get me wrong decred has a strong community and dedicated devs, The same goes for Stratis.  Lisk and Cloak are worth mentioning as well.

I read that practical quantum computers will be available in 5 years. Blockchain will not be secure anymore, so I think coins based on DAG are gonna survive.

this is untrue, and besides this all banks will not be secure anymore, you must worry more about your fiat bank account and your saving there than not here

I read that practical quantum computers will be available in 5 years. Blockchain will not be secure anymore, so I think coins based on DAG are gonna survive.

SHA 256, SHA 384 both are having 128bit security > NSA recomend SHA 384 with better quantum resistance but i don't believe it > because quantum still an experimental in my opinion.

quantum can only break ecds and nothing else, if it will ever exist, nothing to worry about for me

How far into the future are we talking about here?

In crypto time "far" into the future can be 6 months (or weeks lol).

it depends on what you call surviving!
being around and being traded, or mostly pump and dumped is not really surviving in my opinion but if that is the definition you have in mind then there will be lots of the altcoins that can survive.

but as a real project with something to offer and being developed, and hopefully contribute to the cryptocurrency world at least or at best become a currency; that is a whole different story and in my opinion none of the altcoins fall under this strict definition. but you can call some of them like litecoin and monero as coins that have many of these aspects and can survive.
Indeed, survive doesn't mean a good coin but requires many factors to support it, and has high demand in order to increase the value.
The most traded altcoins such as ethereum, dash, monero, ripple, or litecoin which people always looking for it as an alternative crypto. Those coins that qualifies may exist and keep developing for a long term investment.

Grin

I agreed that in the near future there are few altcoins might survive such as Litecoin, Ethereum, Nem, Dash, Monero, Maid, Ripple, Dogecoin, and others. So as long as their value now was very low let us take the chance too to buy it.
