So I honestly think we are completely fucked. As a civilization, I mean.

Quick reminder on Calhouns mouse utopia: He had a big pen with lots of food and water and little hidey holes and bedding and everything a group of mice need to live and thrive. Unlimited amounts for practical purposes, in all categories save one: Space. He dumped a seed population into the cage, even numbers of males and females, and sat back and watched what happened.

In the beginning there was steady population growth, but after a while it slowed down. Then it stopped. And then it reversed. They were no longer reproducing, and even after the population started dropping they didn't start doing it again. Somehow their reproductive instinct had apparently been shut off.

He observed unusual behavior as the experiment progressed. Mothers didn't take care of their young, sometimes abandoning them or at times even killing them. Some of the mice which he called the beautiful ones dropped out entirely of rodent society, staying away from the herd and spending their time grooming and sleeping. There was increased violence, both in rate and severity. All of this is stuff we see in current human societies, especially in the west but also in most of the rest of the world.

This is too close to how Rome fell to be mere coincidence. They expanded rapidly, became decadent, reproduction slowed down and they crumbled from the inside. Rome had a population of over a million people, and in just a year or so they were down to 20000.

It happened again in the 20th century. Stalin killed 50 million of his own people, Mao even more, in Cambodia a third of the population was murdered. And 20 other cases around the world.

And it is happening again. Only this time it is not just one country or a larger region in the world. It's damn near global.

My interpretation is that there is something in the mammalian subconscious that is constantly scanning for population density. Too many, and it slows down. Way too many and it stops. This makes sense evolutionarily, any species that multiplies too much will end up starving due to lack of food, especially predators. All the methods we use to lower our numbers, from low reproduction to lack of proper childcare to physical violence and mass genocides are just expressions of an innate desire to get rid of some of the other members of our specie.

And if this is the case, then things will continue to get worse until our numbers are lowered, one way or another.

Without answering to all the Mao/Stalin part, it's clear that we're in a down period.

Pretty much every historian can see we are currently in a decadence system.

We're more or less the last generation with some kind of future. Next ones are completely fucked. I just hop I'll be dead before.

Nice one.
It provides a rather good explanation as to why I love to hang around with prostitutes. Cool

Hawking called it.
Either we get the fuck off at one point, or we are doomed.
There is no way life can be sustained on a limited space (planet), whilst population is growing exponentially.
The numbers & breaking points change as technology evolves, but the pattern is always the same.

There are plenty of reasons to be optimistic.

World population is leveling off at 8.7 billion.   Education helps, a lot.  Especially educating and empowering women.

Tech is moving incredibly fast.  Our information management skills are currently growing exponentially.

Environmental values are being heard by politicians including in repressive states like China.

If you want wide open spaces try Siberia, Northern Canada, interior of Australia, North Dakota, Pacific Ocean etc.

No crowds there.

Just created myself a $100 shitcoin fund on binance.

I chose the most shittiest of shitcoins which are down %95+ from their ATH price and some arguably good ones. Let's see how much I am able to rip others off. Unless I see a parabolic rise I won't sell any of these. And If I see all going ballistic, that means the bull has come.

https://www.cryptocompare.com/portfolio-public/?id=432797

Chose 8 coins and put $10 on each. Actually put $10 on 7 of them but then I couldn't find a shittycoin with an incredibly high supply so I put the rest on BTT. Justin Sun's newest scam.

FAQ,

Q: Why haven't I bought shits like ETH, BSV, BCASH, IOTA?
A: Even when I am shopping for shit, I try to buy them cheap. Those shits are still overpriced so I ignored them.

**Maybe its better to create a thread for this. Don't wanna disrespect this thread with these shitcoins.  Grin

Tech is moving incredibly fast.  Our information management skills are currently growing exponentially.

Yet the "value-add" to human life by all that recent Tech is not growing exponentially. By some accounts we are actually regressing as a species with all of this new Tech all around us.

Good luck in the future where everyone has a college degree (fueled by expensive student loan debt that they have to take an entire lifetime paying off), everyone has some sort of Tech "career", but everyone has to live in a Tier 1 city (even in the U.S.) that they can barely afford to live in, with no savings, no house, nor retirement, just to maintain a Tech job.

But the problem with those markets is liquidity. Just trying to dump a large amount of those shitcoins into any kind of a pump and you'll crash the market.

That's not my problem probably. I invested only $10 each. Can I crash the markets with $10? No matter how shittythe coin is I don't think I am capable of doing this.  Grin Even If things go great and I make a x100 rise, that $100 will become $10k at best and still won't crash the market.
