Morning!
So, I bought some BTC today for the first time since 2014.
I decided to do a little experiment, I was offered a loan from a company (Qliro) and accepted, I borrowed 20 000:- (about 2300 USD), I set aside four months worth of payments on the loan (this will be used to pay of the loan for the coming four months) and bought btc for the rest (17500:- (about 2000 USD)) and I put those btc in a separate wallet.
Now I'm going to sell these btc in December when we go skyrocketing and the little experiment here is to see how much money I will make on this. The plan is of course to repay the loan in full in December and do something fun with the profit. I have been offered to up the loan with another 50 000:-, I might do that, still thinking about it.
So, as you can see the whole point is to make money without having to put in any of my own.
I did accept the offer to up the loan with 50 000, the money should be in my account on Monday, I will move it to another bank and do this buy from another broker, the brokers I use take about 10% commission, so my firs goal will be to reach break even.

I could certainly be wrong.. But my opsec is borked way past anything this picture reveals. This just reveals that I had an account on Mt Gox with a least a trivial amount of Bitcoin under the same name I use here. My post history has already given all of that away. Several times. Also my address reuse, and other early errors make my privacy nearly non existent... It's sad but true.
I may have been being a little tongue-in-cheek.

A thought occurred...I wonder if Bob's fella (Rick) is posting here? If so, I would be curious to know his nick, just for giggles. Bob is probably mostly building the ranch (and fence), I suppose...kind of miss him #nohomo
BTW, on the topic of ranches and lakes...if what Balaji is talking about will happen (I give it a 70% chance[for 1mil per that is]), then bitcoiners would at some point rush into good RE all over the world. Maybe recent jump in RE values was already influenced by bitcoiners. More will come in due time.

Bitcoin has nearly doubled now since July 19th. I don't think the strength of this "recovery" can be overstated. When you look at a 3-month chart it is blatantly obvious that the Bulls have been in control lately and have quite a bit of momentum. Sure, every market needs cooling down periods, but this looks more to me like the start of the bubble. We're basically in the same spot as when BTC was at $4,000 in 2017. Even though I strongly believe we'll see a x3 rally in the next 3 months, I will still be shocked at it's sheer power when it happens.

Ridiculous, I might say..a shark's loan. If you have means of repayment, OK, but not OK in most cases if you don't. A leveraged play, which has a good chance of working...Good luck!

It's not really that fancy. Numbers on a ledger sheet don't really do anything to materially improve your life and people may feel inclined to enjoy the little things in life such as purchasing lakes or attempt to set up new nations in the middle of the ocean. It by no means means that people are "cashing out" but the whole process of price discover works along people who have coins selling them to those who don't.

I do not assume this is exactly what Theymos meant for "merits" to be used for? But fuck it. It's just right.

I may have been being a little tongue-in-cheek. I feel better. Back in the earlyish days... when I used a wallet at blockchain.com for a fairly short amount of time (what a convoluted foolishnees that whole thing was) I ended up with a BTC address that was something like: 1Raawwk5hJ98 I mean we all did that... right? fell in love with some silly front end of an address. Like a vanity address from God. Well when I was withdrawing from Seals with Clubs I always used that address... because it was COOL! So I ended up painting a big ass arrow to everything I owned or did. Actually *THIS* post really does expose a little more security risk than I probably should... but eff it.

I missed that bit. 10%? Seems more like a payday loan to me. I'm sure it disappears into the APR on the loans I've had though.

Yes. Early days, avoiding address reuse was not really a thing. Even Casacius used a single address for his coins (he would vary the price by a few cents so he knew who was paying what). Bitcointalk has an area you can put a bitcoin address (which was often used for tips) and your username here would show up when browsing blockchain.info. I'd actually remember my most commonly used address by the last few characters.

And now with Lightning Addresses, you can have a vanity "address" without exposing yourself to privacy concerns.
