Calm down everyone. Chernobyl blew up from within because nearly e v e r y s i n g l e safety system was defeated manually by human hands in order to perform a poorly designed test and the fuel was encased in carbon (as a moderator). It blew up due to a runaway fission process and and the extreme energy and heat created. It continued to burn because... that's what carbon does. The reactors at Zaporizhzhia are pressurized light water reactors (meaning they use water as a moderator). Also, each of the 6 reactors is encased in structure built from over 2 meters of steel reinforced concrete which can withstand a direct hit from a 747. The safety systems are much more robust than those of Chernobyl. It would be good if some stray bullets don't kill the guys trained to operate the reactor though. -snipped- Personally, I'm more worried about the safety of the good people of Ukraine from Putin's onslaught. +1 WOsMerit

It is extremely irresponsible to order the shelling of a nuclear power plant.

https://www.cnbc.com/2022/03/03/russia-ukraine-live-updates.htmlThe State Emergency Service of Ukraine said Friday that following an attack by Russian forces on Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, the facility is currently secure. The emergency service said that there was a fire behind the nuclear power plant in an area that is used for training. does not mean that this is the last word, however.

Hopefully they don't shut down the grid. Those stations still need power to maintain cooling on the fuel for quite a few days - remember Fukushima; they lost the grid and all but one unit's back up diesel generators. That turned ugly really fast.

The fire has been now set off and no indication of radiation changes have been reported so this is good sign but don't know how much more time this is going to carry on : So as per the tweet the situation of nuclear plant is now fine but according to Ukraine official the Russian army has seized the areas of the plant which is dangerous. This is Map of various nuclear plant at Ukraine which are the target for Russia to make some big devastation as Putin has lost his mind : Source
The electronic vehicle charging station on Russian motorway were hacked displaying the message below: Glory to Ukraine / Glory to the heroes / Putin is a d***head / Death to the enemy,” the message reportedly read. It is reported that machines were built by Ukrainian company and hackers are now giving such messages
