gotta wonder why MtGox always has BTC pegged a good $50 more than every other exchange, especially when their service is dismal.

Wonder all you like but the answer is this thread.

Wow, looking at this, can anyone tell me why MTGox is the most recognized bitcoin trader ?

I hear of them having more issues then anyone else. I have cashed out a number of times and never had an issue.

Being a Canadian litecoin miner, I use BTC-E for exchanges of LTC to BTC, and cavirtex to cash out into cad...

I NEVER had an issue, in fact cavirtex support has always been amazing, and BTC-E... well... you can replace heavy drinking or drug use by reading the "trollbox"... that shit kills braincells very efficiently. (dare I say, my braincells go... To Da Mo0on ?) (sorry I couldn't resist being stupid  Grin)

So again, why the hell would gox be the most known site ?

Here are a few reasons:
  • People trust MtGox.  (How anyone can trust their money to BTC-E is beyond me.)
  • MtGox has the volume, depth and stability required to sustain large customers.
  • MtGox is the only exchange with a well functioning multi currency market.
  • MtGox has a very mature API, actually several, which do not look like they are designed by a 12 year old.
  • MtGox is a truly international exchange, not just a local market.  The country with the largest user share is China with 15% of the total.

Sjå https://bitmynt.no for veksling av bitcoin mot norske kroner.  Trygt, billig, raskt og enkelt sidan 2010.
I buy with EUR and other currencies at a fair market price when you want to sell.  See http://bitmynt.no/eurprice.pl
Warning: "Bitcoin" XT, Classic, Unlimited and the likes are scams. Don't use them, and don't listen to their shills.

...

One way or another, there is no fucking way I'm going to give Mt. Gox the easy out of cashing me out at today's prices.  If they want to roll back the transaction chain and give me the 50 BTC that results, I'm game.  I made that offer in a semi-formal manner (and documented it.)  Unsurprisingly I've not heard anything back.

Fair enough.  To add to that though, I doubt many of these other exchanges would even be up and running had they lost 10M to a bunch of government thieves and that other lot.

I've always been relatively impressed with a lot of aspects of Mt. Gox throughout the years, and that remains the case today.  I have no trouble imagining reasons why they could have trouble's wiring me money so I don't necessarily blame them for the failure.

I don't, however, see any legitimate reason why they should lie to me and set invalid expectations through their support channels.  Or no legitimate reasons which have a positive side at least.  That is the main reason they are on my shit-list.

MtGox support has a lot of potential to improve. If I ran gox, I would've been ashamed of the lack of quality in terms of support. I think some of the support people needs to be fired, and the wages raised, and some better people be put in.

Here's some free advice:

1. Hire some people that are fairly intelligent and that understand bitcoin and IT in general.
2. Pay them a little bit more, so they will stay.
3. When responding to support tickets. First read the ticket in full, and understand the issue at hand. If the support person do not understand the issue at hand, escalate it to 2nd line support. There's nothing to be ashamed of in that regard. It's just that scripted responses does not actually help much. A lot of the cases are cases where individual responses are required.
4. Make it a priority to solve customer tickets. And by solving, not just by closing them, but actually solving the problems, so the customer will be satisfied.

I'm aware there is a lot of customers, and that the support division is overloaded, but I'm sure most customers rather would wait 3 days, and then get an intelligent answer attending to the issue at hand, than some half assed 'I don't care - did not read your mail - here's a scripted reply - let's cross our fingers and hope it helps'-kindof reply.

I can understand people use mtgox in the past as there is no alternative. But now with coinbase.com, there is absolutely NO REASON for anyone in the USA to use mtgox over coinbase.  Coinbase has 25mil invested at min, very legit, secure, and most important you get your money in <1 week as they worked it out with us banks. I did two big transfers so far both 5 figures, and both times money were in my checking account less than 4 days -at exactly the date they specified.

It's common knowledge that euro area SEPA transfers do work (with a delay of a few weeks, unless the size is really small), unlike the international wire (SWIFT) withdrawals, which are being stalled indefinitely. It's also common knowledge (to anyone who has followed this thread or one of several others in this forum) that there's a limit of one transfer per 20 days per customer when using SEPA.

MtGox has been remarkably open about the SEPA situation. Not so with the SWIFT situation, though. I wonder why they don't send SWIFT wires through their Polish bank. This would of course eat their euro quota, but they would at least get them started in shortening the queue.

I've used mtgox and since their BS delays all of what you listed above is meaningless to a U.S. Customer like myself.

It is like saying the dashboard of a car is the best designed of all manufacturers yet the car likes to stall every 5 minutes...pointless features if the main purpose is broken.

I find it funny that anybody would still have money with gox seeing as one could easily have withdrawn btc and sold for a profit on other exchanges during the past few days.

Cancel your withdraws, buy BTC, wait until the price is slightly higher elsewhere and then sell. Violla, no more wiating for withdraw at gox.

If your in the EU, check out BTC-e, their EUR price is nice and they usually have next day transfers.

If you're in the US, try out coinbase, their price is the same as bitstamp and they deposit right to your bank account.

So simple...

Easier said than done.  I've been trying to cancel my withdrawals for more than a week now and they are still dicking me around and delaying things.

We should probably prepare for the worst case scenario which is that mtgox will not pay us anything at all.  If so then we will have more credibility in numbers, which means the feds will take action.

This is the season for holidays.  Try #mtgox on IRC (freenode).  There is usually decent support there.

Still waiting for SEPA withdrawal to polish account. Request made 2013/10/22 (6 weeks ago) value: 423zł . Waiting for Support reply.
Mt.Gox: Situation as of 1st December 2013: We are currently processing withdrawals requested 3 weeks and 2 days ago
Reality:
  • Me: 6 weeks and 3 days and still nothing, just nothing. And no support reply for 4 days. (PLN) (SEPA)
  • BTCWorld: about 9 weeks (PLN) (SEPA)
  • Abracadaver: 3 weeks 3 days (EUR) (SEPA)

Why so different delays and why Mt.Gox is lying?

PLNs received on 2013/12/20 after 8 weeks and 3 days.

You are right PLN is not SEPA but PLN withdrawal should have the same limits/delays as EUR. As I understand all SEPA transfers are made using polish bank BZWBK ("BZWBK 1 O. we Wrocławiu") this bank account is owned by polish branch of Mt. Gox which is called in Poland: "MT. GOX POLAND INC. SP. Z O.O." I have received money from BZWBK.
