Messi and De Gea were not in the same situation at all, I mean we know both payers were getting old but the reason for Messi to leave Barcelona was mostly because of the money he get from PSG while Barcelona didn't have a good financial situation, but De Gea wanted to stay in Manchester United and he had many achievements there, the problems about De Gea was Manchester United asking De Gea to extend his contract for a cheap price which is not good for a player like De Gea who played there for years.

Newcastle is indeed a great team and they somehow remind me of RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga. They have built a solid basis over many years and took it step by step without deviating from their main principles. One of those principles was to not overpay anyone ever and to not buy players who are in the final stages of their career, cost lots of money and do not coherently fit into the team nor do they contribute to the overall cohesion. When I first heard that Newcastle is now owned by a sheikh and the richest club in the world, I thought they might try to buy all the Messis and Ronaldos and then hope for success, but instead they built a team and I haven't even heard of most of the players' names and yet they have played a remarkable season. If they now add some higher profile players that would be great, but their new success story is too short to convince the superstars to go there already.
