people should come on the linux side Smiley seems to have more support now Smiley and faster performance  Cheesy
not in this life.

just installed vmware with ubuntu 13.04 and tried to do the walkthrough that was provided here to compile the sources. everything went fine until i had to edit a file.
i have no admin rights and i am in the admin group. kind of remembers me of windows. but at least you can do something there. i just wanna hurt myself if i use this linux shit for a little longer.

to edit the config file do "nano ~/.yacoin/yacoin.conf" no admin required

yeah, i like linux and i should be on it... but i love to play, and i hate to use some emulator (wine) to play, cause the lower performance...

Also i only had 1 pc, these guys are rich with tons of machines to play around, and amazon instances, and some with botnets... so i'm kinda in the botton of the chain, but i'm on it!

I love this world, i'm in love with all the crypto currency idea. even if i can only get 0.00000001 of each coin i mine, i'm happy. xD

can't you run linux on vm and forget about windows host?
I can't see any problem

..or is it a gpu miner?

It's basicly not that hard, yac uses scrypt-jane instead of scrypt which isnt available in cgminer (yet) but since its already in the cpuminer source you could adapt it if you know your way around and after that its gpu mineable, not as bad as the original scrypt but it will put cpus out of their place again.

I'm pretty sure some ppl have already figured that out and mining with their gpus

Thank you! compiling succeeded now. But after running this command: ./yacoind -daemon -gen -addnode=82.211.30.212
I get the error: terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::runtime_error'
  what():  locale::facet::_S_create_c_locale name not valid
Aborted (core dumped)

Hopefully this is my last problem. (sorry for the noob questions, first time linux)

At least more support here  Wink, but still a major pain in the behind imho.

Anyway, had it run for 8 hours on 4 cores, no transactions (no blocks and no orphans). Here is my info and stats/speed, does this seem right, i.e. am I actually mining something? (CPU is definitely used for it).

Well people we should leave this be, with a bit of luck this coin will never even make it to an exchange and will discourage further sloppy releases of crypto currencies......
