Some of them do, some of them don't.

It depends on the functionality they provide - the real world value.  This might be by increasing reliability and flexibility of certain services through decentralization, ensuring of privacy, or enabling new ways of generating revenue by tapping into unused peer to peer network resources.

Check out Oyster for an exciting new project which does all three of these.  Before you buy into any coin though ask yourself, would I really use this?  I would use the coins I am interested in given a number of circumstances.

Novelty coins and coins with no utility of course have very little future unless they get really lucky and obtain collectors value.  Never buy into a novelty coin.  Even doge.

I think there will be only a few altcoins in the future that survive and not die. I think it is ethereum, because ethereum has a lot of potential and popularity.

They definitely do. We might not realize their importance right now in terms of utility in front of bitcoin as we are only focusing upon profit and margins. But some altcoins got enough potential and provide real world usage and can go hit in future. Right now blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies are emerging and aren't enough popular. But in future these cryptos have immense potential. I agree there are hundreds of scam coins and dead coins in altcoin market. But we equally can't neglect some potential coins.

People around the world is getting the knowledge of bitcoin every day and join it. So every day the bitcoin community is getting bigger and bigger. And its popularity is enormous. In this way some other cryptocurrency has got attention too. Etherium an litecoin are like those. In my knowledge dogecoin can also have some attention in crypto world.

Bitcoin has proven its worth for a long time and still getting trusted by the blockchain community and on the other hand there are only couple of altcoins that will have a bright future the same as bitcoin and ETH is the top among them which is 2nd to the bitcoin in digital currencies.

I believe Bitcoin has a future in long term. It proved itself in the past years and it is getting widely popular. It just has a transaction fee problem atm.

What about the altcoins? Who does use them for real? Will people use them in the future for real purpose?

I only have a hope for ethereum and litecoin, but not for the rest. I am not even sure for eth and ltc.

If bitcoin solves the reansaction fee and time problem, I doubt eth and ltc even have a future.

Yes it is still in the near future there is still altcoins had a better future which it can be use as bitcoin does, like what you had mentioned such as Ethereum, Waves, Litecoin, Dash, Myst, Adx and Doge. Those are for me that has a real future.
Myst and Adx aren't altcoin, these are the token asset from ICO and you can't call these tokens are altcoin like Ethereum, Waves ... And the future of these token asset depend on the devs of these projects very much. It is unlike altcoins is can depend on the miner community like Ethereum, Dash, Litecoin ...

As vitalik says, most (>90%) altcoins will fail in the long term. But this will be just like other industry, a few will stand out and become very successful. I will stay with those coins that crypto specific and provide fundamental services to others

In my humble opinion only few altcoin (less than 10) will survive next five years, but many more will born. It's all about speculation.

Well not all altcoin are good and i think those who are on top 10 on the coinmarketcap will surely have a future or maybe some big altcoin will come and replace other coin. Cryptucurrency is our future and we should adopt this new system for a bright generation, bitcoin and altcoins will surely help us to achieve all our goals.

Most altcoins are not prospective. Most altcoin will last only a few weeks. Like a coin that pumps and dumps by developers. Usually this coin is very unpopular but a careful trader will make the best use of it. I also agree with you that etherum has a good future. With so many investors today etherum can be a successful project. Not many can do the same, but I believe that etherum can do it and survive for years to come.

Bitcoin has and always will have a promising future. But based on the nature of bitcoin, it is limited in terms of what it can do. Ethereum has a lot of potential because it's a versatile blockchain.

But with crypto and ico's rolling out nowadays, I can see a lot of them being used in our everyday lives.

For ex. with cybermiles, they are decentralizing marketplaces and implementing smart business contracts into 5miles the app (and then commercializing the blockchain for ecommerce). With the blockchain, you don't have a middleman disputing cases. You have buyers, sellers, and arbiters that get paid to solve disputes. They also plan on doing what ambrosus does with food, but more with the supply chain (manufacturer to consumer) so you can get authentic goods.

They are truly scratching an itch and eliminating fees/trouble in the process. I see a future with crypto, but it will have to jump through regulation hoops.

agree, I have the same opinion that some of the factors that influence are a team of expert developers and qualified in their field, solid team work, a good community and growing, and cooperation with institutions outside

I'm sure Altcoin will have a bright future. The proof is now that many big companies are successful with masuj world Crypto and make their own Altcoin which mostly based on ERC20. In essence Altcoin is very promising for the long term and short term.

Of course, altcoins have a future. Many have already applied their technology. And then it will only be more interesting with the development of the altcoins.

Altcoins are springing up pretty regularly in the lists of CoinMarketCap. I think most cryptocurrencies will probably die out in the near future. But I strongly believe Ethereum and a few others do have a very bright future.
