Well, I think lifetime in jail is enough and they should pay the damages to their victims. I don't see death penalty as a solution to rape. Besides, most of the rape now are with consent, it happens that they are raped by the people they know, such as their friends and boyfriends.

So I think a lifetime in jail is enough. Who knows, they will be raped there by their cellmates.  

The trauma they have caused to the victim and to her family is not that easy to survive. There's a possibilty that the victim would commit suicide because of trauma or become crazy. For me lifetime imprisonment isn't enough. They should pay it with their lives. They are the kind of person that shouldn't let alive along with terrorist. Once a rapist always a rapist.

I think that the punishment should be life in prison because the death penalty allows the guilty to escape the walls of a prison to where ever death might lead them while knowing you are never going to leave the place you are in is a much greater punishment.


However, I think if the USA or any country wanted to stop a specific crime, they would have to make the punishment for such crime something inhuman to deter those. However, what if the punishment is blinding and cutting off all 4 lambs and the person is later found to be innocent there is no taking that back

I don't agree with setting India as an example for rape incidents. Yeah, a few rape incidences in the past were indeed brutal and heinous, should have never happened. If you look at the stats Africa leads with the highest reported rape incidents.

If you go by the stats no women is safe in any country.

Now as far as punishment is concerned, most rapists get away with a maximum of 7 years in prison. In rarest of rare cases capital punishment/death penalty is carried out. The rapists know they can get away easily, no fear of consequences and that is why castration law should be adopted by each and every country, not chemical, but surgical castration.

Next thing is stricter laws should be enforced when a juvenile is guilty of rape. Guilty of rape at 16, free at 18, this has to be changed.

Being a regular visitor to India, I can say that the North Indian mentality is very similar to that in Pakistan or the Arab nations. It is considered macho to rape a woman. Very few of the rape cases get reported (if the victim tries to file a complaint against the rapists, then most probably the cops will either demand cash or sex from her).

I believe this is mostly in Muslim countries now. Most countries, whether they heavily punish the rapist, would not allow it to marry its victim.

If there is proof beyond reasonable doubt that the person raped the victim, it should be the most humiliating and harsh penalty that must be given. Rape is no petty crime, you violated an individual, a human. If you are capable of that, you are capable of far worse crime.

Frankly, I think death is not enough. I remember reading a book and read there that in ancient Rome, the husband of a woman who had an affair had the option to sodomize the wife's lover. As expected, the husbands got creative. There was one case that the husband used a fish. And this was in public, for everyone to see.

So I'd say one instance of public humiliation, a few rounds of torture, and then solitary confinement for life.

In one respect, if found guilty of rape, society as a whole is better off without rapists and death seems reasonable.  But in another respect, the things that have caused someone to enjoy raping a woman are cultivated by the surrounding environment.  Things like being in a sexually repressive culture can cause odd behaviours.  Anyone that rapes another person lacks empathy, likely because that person wasn't showed and taught empathy in his childhood.

Just cut off these people's manhoods and show it to the public. Most of these people are also influenced by external substances like alcohol or drugs and we have to look into that as well. But rapr is a highly heinous crime and i think it deserves a punishment equal to what the victim experienced during the crime.

I can't believe you're actually giving muslim countries as an example here. They have a real problem with rapes, look what the rapefugees are doing in Europe!
Do you know that according to muslim law a woman is inferior? Girls are being stolen from their parents and forced to marry the perpetrator. During the marriage they are being raped, because a wife can't say no to her husband. If she tries to escape she's beaten, sometimes gets her nose or ear cut off.
If a woman wants to report a rape in a muslim country she needs male witnesses that will support her claim. If it's her word against his, nobody will believe her.

Rapists, if proven guilty, must be sentenced to death. It is the only way for the people to be afraid to do such things. The execution must be done by hanging in public to enhance the awareness and fear for the people who does evil schemes.

I have heard about similar incidents in India as well. The rapist is freed if he is ready to marry his victim. In India, there are rapists who got married multiple times, just to escape from the punishment.

I do not think by even legalizing prostitution will still stop rape incidents but may be it can stop it by a small amount. Also, if prostitution is legalized in India there could ve many problems in that. As everyone knows there are many people who live under the poverty line and will not be able to pay huge amount of money to have sex. In India, most of rapists are indulged in these activities consuming drugs or alcohol. May be if there is a ban on drugs and legalizing prostitution then this could stop by a small amount.

If you automatically give all rapists the most severe sentence (either death sentence or life depending on country) you may encourage rapists to kill their victims, their sentence won't get any worse, and they don't want to let their victim identify them.

I am curious how these marriages ends up. In Turkey, Saudi Arabia and India is the same , they let the rapist go free if they agree to marry their victim. However the history have demonstrated that these marriages do not last. In fact in a true story in Turkey , I think its one of the few cases where the victim did fall extremely in love with her rapist after getting married, I don't know how to explain this, probably some psychologist can shade some light on this case.

My personal opinion on the matter: To let go free the rapist if the victim ONLY has the right to agree to marry him or death punishment if she doesn't agree.
