I introduced bitcoin to a friend and they started talking about how the bible predicts a currency take over and its the start of the Revelation.

Has anyone else run into this problem?

don't take religious junkies seriously , just laugh with them.

Hey! If you are here on this forum and are not a member of our Religion / don't take it seriously you should be careful if you mention it.

You might get a unannounced visit from the Bitquisition some day.

All previous versions of currency will no longer be supported as of this update

I'm more concerned with the religion OF bitcoin.  Their are FAR too many people who have near apocalyptic visions of how BTC will transform the world and bring torment an damnation upon governments, banks, Keynesians and everyone who has ever mocked them.  While the BTCers will be enraptured in wealth and splendor and rule the world at the right-hand of Satoshi.  Sound familiar???

I think the speculation section is the temple of the Bitcoin religion.

We do still have data and some evidence though which is a lot more than can be said for other religious models.

We can all agree most religious people are nuts

That's pretty funny, considering that Bitcoin itself is pretty much a religion at this point
At least it isn't about some magical man from the sky that can make something out of nothing.

When it comes to making something out of nothing, I'll take cosmology any day.  Problems?  Fold in moar dimensions!

Plus, we've been to the moon, and still no man from the sky.

Yep, we've been there about half a century ago.  Thanks to the tremendous technological advances over the past 44 years, NASA is currently pulling 40-yr-old rocket motors out of mothballs in hopes of duplicating that magnificent accomplishment ... sometime.  Maybe.  Unfortunately Wernher von Braun (who was in no way a Nazi y'all, well maybe the tiniest little bit, does being SS-Sturmbannführer even count?) won't take us there this time around, he's dead. RIP.

For those not familiar with the true father of American rocketry, this world-renowned rocketeer is best known for his visionary V2 (Vergeltungswaffe 2 -- Vengeance Weapon 2).  This engineering tour de force provided plenty much-needed lulz to the bored civilians fortunate enough to experience this exploding marvel first hand.

After the war, grateful America scooped up bits & pieces of V-2s {which were built in underground factories by slave labour), along with grinning Von Braun & his team of merry pranksters.  V-2 became our beloved Saturn, and its creator & co -- the brains & guts of NASA.  And yes, the engine NASA's pulling out of the mothballs?  It's THAT engine.

That's what government does. They use printed and/or stolen money to vacuum up a bunch of talent from the private sector to build something cool which they can never again duplicate because the bureaucracy that forms around the project is incapable of doing anything except perpetuating itself.

At best you can get one generation of decent output from a government program while the original innovators are still around. Once they leave the rot takes over very quickly.

I thought you were going to mention how Muslims can only use certain forex brokers for some weird fucking reason.

The "weird fucking reason" being: making money from money is considered haram (sinful) in Islam. Which is exactly why the Islamic Bank of Bitcoin doesn't take interest.

So on one hand Islam is a logical friend of bitcoin, due to the whole "deconstructing traditional banking" thing.

On the other hand Islam is a logical enemy of bitcoinERS, due to the... just look at the marketplace and you'll get it.

Do people pretend to be Muslim to try to get an interest free mortgage?

Agree in general, though Von Braun himself wasn't in the private sector.  All of his work was sponsored by the Nazis directly.  With all the nationalistic fanfare surrounding the moonshot, the man directly responsible for putting us there is an SS major, and the engines that got us there are directly descended from V-2.

It's true he pretty much came directly out of university into the Nazi party. He wasn't the only person responsible for NASA's success though. It took a lot of engineering talent from several different fields to make the Apollo program happen.

They're quite expensive. The supply is getting lower with guantanamo, nsa, fbi, etc.

Yes but they're not like BitCoins - they just print more when more are needed.

Including some free market talent from Russia. The physics used to launch the rocket into space in the first place came from my great*3 grandpa Tsiolkovsky, and I've heard (hearsay) that some of the calculations and mechanics for the actual moon landing came from some poor destitute and unrecognized chap in Russia who died before his papers were found and put into use by NASA.
