At 0.85 watt per g/hash and 5 gh/s advertised, thats a power draw of 4.25 watts per stick. A USB port outputs at 5 volts, so simple math from there (Amps = Watts / Volts) and you get 0.85 amps of current being drawn from each miner.
Only USB 3.0 slots can support that current (and just barely). USB 2.0 ports can only provide .5 Amps of current...nowhere near enough. So does anybody know where you can get cheap USB 3.0 hubs that have an external power adaptor? Anker hubs are too expensive. I might as well go buy a non-usb based miner if I have to spend $50 per hub.

Its the same problem asicminer ran into with the block erupters. They draw the maximum of .5 amps from a usb 2.0 port and these will be drawing close to the maximum provided by a usb 3.0 hub (Max is 0.9 amp). Any hub that powers these will need a beefy power adaptor or it will have to be modified to be powered from the PSU. The newer Anker Hubs come with a 5 amp power adapter and 0.9A is provided by the port you plug it into. Thats a max of 6-7 of these running on a $50 anker hub...and you are unlikely to find a usb hub that comes with an adaptor capable of providing more than 5 amps. I use the Anker as an example because its the only one I know of that has a 5 amp power adapter.

Charge ports don't provide a data connection usually. They are for just that...charging. So you can plug things into the slots but the OS will not see them. The anker hubs have a port like that.

The anker hubs have a port like that. that is why the hubs I picked are better they will allow up to 1.2 amps per port and all ports are data ports. They have far spacing so fitting 6 sticks and a fan should be a breeze. If my psu can do its power rating I would have a nice compact 100gh plus mine using under 130 watts. These sticks still make money at 3 bill difficulty. 100gh of them pulling 150 watts (whole system) at 17 cents a k watt and a diff of 3 billion earn 2.50 usd a day after power costs.

Very very interested this. What payment methods will be available? I have a 200 watt 30A PSU waiting to power my hubs for these. How about a little hint about pricing? I have some saving to do in the short amount of time til they are ready to ship.

Since its already designed to handle a direct PSU connection I imagine providing enough current for these miners wouldn't be difficult.

This is a great innovation and huge jump from the typical 333Mh/s to 5Gh/s usb miner. Maybe soon it could be 50Gh/s or more in a tiny usb stick.

I don't know if you guys are aware but ASICMiner is now providing a 49 port usb hub powered by an atx psu. It comes free with a purchase of 50 AM sticks. They are shipping this week. Since its already designed to handle a direct PSU connection I imagine providing enough current for these miners wouldn't be difficult.
They require an ATX power supply with 25 amps MINIMUM at 5 volts. That gives 1/2 amp per port with the power supply running flat out. There are a few supplies that offer 30 amps at 5v which are a better match for a full load of erupters. 49 * .85 is just over 41 amps which would want a 50 amp supply and 10 amps per pin that I think are rated at 8 or 9. So, while the ASICMiner hub is a good match for 1/2 amp sticks when paired with a 30 amp supply, I don't think it would be a good match for higher power devices without some creative rewiring.

Summing up the discussion on power spec. One of our mining test that summary you can see in gallery, was running on laptop with USB 3.0 port. So we know that 5+GH/s from device can be easily acquire with normal USB 3.0 spec. To meet customer expectations we will provide sufficient USB 3.0 hubs in our store, that's every one can buy hub and get it in one package with ordered Bi•Fury's, to minimize unnecessary cost. Now we are in negotiations with some producers to provide hubs in good price on right time. First we thinking about Dipol Hub's. But price per port is still very high. For now we are most believe in ORICO A3H10 hub. Price per port is right and quality is very good. Hubs come with 12V4A external power supply, and manufacturer assured us that every port meets the full specification USB 3.0 (5V 900mA). I will update some info about hubs and Bi•Fury sale in next weekend.
