mcxNOW will probably mean the death of a few altcoins (if you can't trade them with BTC, you can be sure there will be zero interest), as some of them had almost no existence outside. LTC is good now but later i doubt so This is becomming more unlikely by the minute. There's really no reason places won't accept more than just Bitcoin. When Bitcoin hits $10,000 each I don't see why LTC can't be $500-1000, or hell other coins as well. |

Because of this there will always be people who will not touch BTC even with a 10-foot pole. A lot of people dont like it at all its as simple as that. LTC has got Scrypt so its free of that burden, truly open source. Cant see a much hope for other alts. The one or other may do alright, but not much more than picking up leftovers. |

If everyone will use BTC we might end up at a point where even 1 Satoshi is too much of value for at least some micropayment. Unless the bitcoin protocol is then changed (and the network will agree to do so) that lower units are made possible there would be a place for at least one other coin with lesser value. |

what you seem to ignore is that the 8 decimals are arbitrary and more can be added later with very simple protocol changes.
What you seem to ignore is that i mentioned that in my post. But if the network gets that big it might no longer work out to have the majority of the network adopt such a protocol change. Certainly people holding on to LTC or other altcoins might have an interested to prevent such a change happening. I'm not promoting altcoins in any way but just saying that I see reasons why at least one might stay despite the existence of Bitcoin. |

Actually, there is no source code for either SHA256 or scrypt, they're mathematical algorithms, they're known, and they have thousands of implementations in various licenses, closed or open source.
I will add that Scrypt is a newer Algo but not used widely as SHA-2, but this doesn't mean that SHA-2 is more secure than Scrypt, basically the wide use of SHA-2 comes from years of experience so it is safe somehow. Scrypt is working well for Litecoin, infact it proved to be a win and major factor for the existence of Litecoin. and it is still serving its purpose. |
