Those are pretty even numbers for an exchange. Bter is the only exchange that really has any volume. I'm going to withdraw some and see if those balances change.

1   DGFA65jcSuazPCcP5PUpTdpYsGBKu9HFEV   940 001.20000000 dtc (57.73 btc / 25 630.69 usd )

It is not 90 percent, just about less than 50%. Watch the total mined coins in the mentioned homepage (More than 3.6 millions.)

Ah I was going off CoinMarketCap. Still that a huge portion of the coin. Anyone know who owns that address?

I dont think it matters really.

Here's a question, Storj mention on their homepage about uploading files of 10GB in size but as I understand it, that's not possible (and far too expensive) with datacoin yet? Do they have some extra technology they have developed?

I am just gonna say I told you so and link to what I am talking about
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=325735.msg4000584#msg4000584
Some very interesting points there.

How about this:
Datacoin becomes encrypted. People want to host files publicly though so they post the file keys online. Soon everyone decides to use a standard key or password for public files to reduce time spent googling, this becomes `The Public Key`. Now datacoin may as well not be encrypted since we can all access the public (and potentially illegal) stuff.
What now?
If you are trying to use datacoin to distribute files online then riddle me this, how is anyone supposed to download your file without downloading the entire blockchain?
I sold all my datacoin at $1 because I knew that this coin had no future and zero chance to reach its potential, I stand by my decision and I hope those of you have read my critiques and decided to steer clear of this floundering attempt at uninspiring "innovation" masked through marketing and branding.

I would pay the datacoins it costs to upload the block explorer. It would get us publicity, so it's worth it.

I see many newbies asking for information that is already on the thread, I recall someone created a thread with information about the coin and there is also datacoin.info , please check it before asking  Roll Eyes

Also, I have been forced to abandon the blockchain file browser and the upload tool that I was hosting (I am still running a full node and will do it for a month or so) because of lack of time since I have been moving on to other things.

I still believe this coin has some potential, but it urgently needs :
- A dedicated dev team with fluent communication with the community (if there is any left).
- More services around it
- And most notably : people using those services Smiley
- Less hoarding, datacoin is meant to spent on uploads, not to hoard it (see the amount of coins that are kept in exchanges FFS). For instance check some block explorer (if you can find one) and search for block rewards greater than the standard, you won't find much of them, this means the coin is not being used at all.

Even with all the above, I wouldn't expect Datacoin to succeed given the recent developing projects like MaidSafe, Ethereum, Skycoin and many others that will implement some kind of decentralized storage and have some nice developers (and funding) behind.

Excuse the rant Smiley

Sure, but it's wrapped around a Drupal module, so maybe it's not that helpful. I will post it later when I get home.

- A dedicated dev team with fluent communication with the community (if there is any left).

We're here, but unfortunately we're not all software developers Sad
I've been trying to rally support in a few of the other forums, I'm sure something will materialise soon Smiley
