What we really need to do is get nodes running on tiny powerful always connected to the Internet devices that everyone carries around all day......phones.

Shouldn't be to hard on Android devices since they run Java anyway.

NXT VPS Server Donations can be sent here: 6044921191674841550
At the end of each month I will donate some of them back to the community.
This is separate from my main wallet so you can keep track of them. I will keep them in there and only use them for hosting.

this is so frustrating, getting good alias only to have them not take

getting a transaction id then nothing

very very flaky

So I came home to my 8gb nodes stuck on the blockchain at 4:12pm and hundreds of dead connections.

hallmarked, and frozen.

This really seems to be the bottleneck to me, and solution to a lot of this, booting timed out connections. they are like barnacles on the bottom of a ship, only serving to slow us down

Thoughts?

Don't know if you tried it, but increasing the deadline time to like 6-8 helped me. i had the same issues at first, for the record i had one alias confirmed for awhile and then taken away, given to someone else on the "right" chain (back when the chain was screwy and forked) so the system isn't solid but is probably better than before.

*edit
another thing. don't know how much it's been discussed, but unless you're picking an alias that is in DEMAND.. I don't believe there's any reason to pick anything higher than 1 fee.. before realizing that it would just take my highest offer, rather than, THEE highest offer, I lost a bit of NXT this way.. disappointed because the video by the user NXT (developer?) on youtube didn't accurately describe the fee process with Alias.

Fees need to be fractions of NxT.

NxTs price isn't going to go up if a transaction fee is several USD.

Anonymous messaging with alias should solve this....search with Alias is already in the android app....i think someone is working on iPad & iPhone app as well.

With the Raspberry Pi  experience I think it would be wise to be smartphone centric there is a lot of smartphones in the world with great distribution systems called App stores already in place.

If we can refine Nxt client to optimally run on smartphones then we can greatly scale the number of nodes in the network.

But for smartphones to run as nodes we need to have an amazing social feature for the general public to us on a daily basis....Anonymous Messaging with alias from your smartphone.

There is real demand for this....example bittorrent just launched an anonymous messaging service in alpha  a few days ago.

We should beat them to the punch....we already have a working android app with Alias search.

Will take me a while to climb up again, But where is a will, there is a way...

there's a lot of android devices in the world at presently and they keep getting more powerful day by day....Nxt nodes could easily cross a million.

If i'm correct Anonymous messaging is planned to be launched in a matter of weeks.

There's a guy running the current android app on his nexus 7 tablet...i already asked his feedback regarding battery drain...should have his reply soon.

Feature request for te future:

Ability to write a transaction to the blockchain that the presence of would prevent transfer of funds from your account until you write another transaction later to the blockchain that would allow 'unlocking'

Seems like this wouldn't be impossible
