This is a debacle to NXT's reputation. I am just glad it doesn't happen later when NXT is more established with more money involved.

That's a little disconcerting to me as I donated 1k NXT to him to give away.  It may not be much to most people here, but I live paycheck-to-paycheck so that 1k was not an insignificant sum to me.

But perhaps I'm jumping to conclusions and should wait until more info is available.

I am reserving any judgement on Drexme for the time being.
It can be a blow to the NXT reputation, but also to his, if it turns out to be a miscommunication.

yes i put in 2500 to the donation fund as well.  Lynxx had volunteered to step up and help out in he forums by taking it over so I was about to hand it over to him/her.  More info is unfolding, supposedly there is an answer but Im not liking it so far, please stay tuned.

Would everyone like a new Nxt exchange? I can get us started on something more appealing than dgex with the communities support.

cheaper withdrawals and faster would be nice. dgex is good, I dont mind paying 1.4% to withdraw, but it should be done in 1-2 hours rather than 12

i looked on the block chain and I have nxt in my account as of 2 days ago. However I have a balance of 0 on my client - dont know what to do, so I am waiting hoping that it appears on my account.
Howevere I dont feel very safe with NXT coins being somewhere but dont see them on my account.
its weird.
Many coins have 1 minute confirmation today so I see them in my wallet immediaty and here I wait for several days and nothing happens. This is quite strange feature

Install the last ver of the client, that should help https://nextcoin.org/index.php/topic,4.0.html
If you already have it, reintstall then.

It has nothing to do with Nxt reputation (though news could have unfair effects).
Also I don't make any judgement on that guy or the other, since I am just reading words and should see the details..
But you guys really don't understand why such a thing could happen: nextcoin.org has a flawed coordination, a forum with only 2 or 3 weeks of existence has members who have 5 stars hero status, some moderators, and some speak of one another like they are active there for more than 2 years!?
The funny part is most of them have not even a >20 membership activity in btt. Still you do not get from where such problem arises?!?

Once more: we should separate all Nxt core-global activities and reputations from all third-party sites-forum-exchanges , these sites are welcomed, but there should not be a legitimacy relation between them and Nxt as the core project.

Huh - I thought that WAS the official NXT forum.  So...is THIS THREAD on Bitcointalk considered the OFFICIAL thread?  Are there others that are recognized by the paid dev team as official?

I keep popping in and out here because this dang thread is so hard to keep up with continuously, but I always keep coming back because this is obviously where The Cool Gang hangs out.

Oh, and CfB too, of course....  Smiley

tell us your latest block

Thank you for fast reply

I made several accounts. Unfortunately I dont have all numbers right now with me.
I thought I made a mistake somewhere and set up new account 11330613360643561804 yesterday where I sent yesterday 100 NXT from Dgex (I chose to pay 1.4% fee because they promised to send NXT faster and I wanted to see how fast it will be.)
well, result is the same
I can see it on http://87.230.14.1/nxt/nxt.cgi?action=100
but not when I log in to my account though internet browser https://localhost:7875/
perhaps it is explained somewhere at https://nextcoin.org/index.php but unfortunately I didnot have time to go through everything
I am not complaining, I keep all my NXT on Dgex (and because it is not big amount I can sleep well Smiley however I think many users must go through same experiences

I would say bearish because there are a lot more people looking to sell than to buy, and some of them may jump the gap and "hit a buy" ahead of the others.

But you can never be sure.  A big buyer can keep his desire off the bid and unknown to let sell orders pile up, then come from nowhere to gobble them all up if he's looking to establish a big position.

I lost a bundle a long time ago daytrading stocks.  Remember what Obi Wan said about Mos Eisley?  That's an exchange.

There is not any official forum or exchange for Nxt atm, all exists are third-party sites related to Nxt.
I heard there is a work in progress to maintain the site nxtcrypto.org as the official voice for Nxt project, but until then (and maybe even after that)
all Nxt core communication will remain here (at least for me)!

I must admit, I use this thread all the time and also go onto the forums a bit.

For me, this thread is easier because it's closer to the fire, because CfB posts regularly and a lot.

Also, this seems the place where most people more directly involved seem to post.

Your accusations are flawed. There are no "hero members", mods (and Administrator, me) get 5 stars automatically. Nobody has said the forum has been up 2 years. I have had to give out some control to assistant mods, and it has worked well. Drexme fulfilled his duties until he mostly left for Dogecoin last week, and his mod status was pending.

I'm not involved in the giveaway stuff, but am under impression Drexme's mod status was not greatly related to that. The giveaway was arranged by members trusting each other, and the nextcoin.org forum itself has nothing to do with giveaway policies.

That said, 2600 members in a few weeks - Most Online Ever: 480 - indicates a rather strong status for a de facto forum of the NXT currency. If the community wants me to remove the"Official" word from the site title, no problem. It was placed there initially when no other NXT forums existed

Well I post on both forums, because I think a forum with different sections and threads is better than ONE gigantic thread. But I hope that something official will come from a dev. Even if it's just something like a verification for a existing forum.

You might have overlooked this... but it still SOLVES the issue because a hacker would not get far if he/she found only the cmd window open because the passphrase is needed in order to send NXT this way... as opposed to finding the browser open with an unlocked account where they would freely send NXT without needing the passphrase (at least until a client comes out that will ask for the passphrase again).

Just explaining for the rest... I know you get it!   Wink

Then I did misunderstand your original question. Yes, with the cmd window open there appears to be no easy way to s(p)end NXT without knowing the passphrase. Certainly no supported API call.

However, if someone does get SSH access to your server and can login with the unix user that is running the Java process (or root, or a user that can sudo, etc), and you have used the web browser to unlock your account using your passphrase since Java was last restarted (i.e. your are actively trying to forge), then that person can get your passphrase. It's not trivial, but it's not difficult either. I've tested it on a remote instance just now, and it was relatively straightforward. It could probably be scripted to get the passphrase quickly and transparently, and bundled into your favourite trojan/virus/rat/etc.

(I was testing on Linux, but the same would likely apply with remote access to Windows).

So there are interesting questions about where you should forge, what precautions you should take, and with how much of your nxt stash. Don't assume that typing your passphrase over SSL to your VPS is necessarily enough. I don't believe this is purely a client-related topic, so long as the key required to forge is the same as the key required to send/spend nxt. I understand that transparent mining/forging and/or multi-sig (?) may fix this, but I don't know much about those concepts yet.

I have made a deal with Intel to try an post NXT news stories regularly at http://info.nxtcrypto.org/ for a while to build up readership at his new news site there.  Blabbing seems to be my main contribution I can make to NXT....

Here's the first two I posted:
