Should stagger the setup dates so that in 2015 half of the nodes don't go down Cheesy

by then NXT is such a big succes and took over BTC.

Just remember that bandwidth out may exceed the free allowance:

 - Free allowance per month: 15 GB of bandwidth out aggregated across all AWS services
 - After this: $0.120 per GB

Bandwidth used would depend on hallmark etc.

Guys, I want maco to get rewarded full for his project from the 13M unclaimed coins.

If not I will stop promoting too and just pay my dev team (mainly to get experience so we can get involved in other projects too in the future).

Me, bybitcoin and 2-3 other stakeholders are the only ones paying for bounties atm.

What about BCNext? And the other stakeholders? Not to mention the 75M of Graviton to whom we must feel obliged of course because he is still in loss from the dgex business...

I don't like this..

I post a few days ago in nexcoin.org that aws.amazon.com cloud gives 1 year free micro t1 VPS
I have a windows one free and now I added onepaid both with slightly more than 600mb ram. It seems that the nxt nodes run ok on them. I don't have them hallmarked but I thought we run as many like them as we could to support the stability.

It costs 0 for 1 year.
Go make accounts in aws.amazon.com and set up a VPS with nxt node.
You need to modify the web.xml
         <param-name>myAddress</param-name>
         <param-value>PUT THE VPS IP HERE</param-value>

Don't put money to fogrge just run nxt client.

Just running nxt node (client) with 0 nxt in it will help the stability right?? or am I confused again!!!!

Would be great if you could write up a guide on getting people up and running on AWS. Windows and Linux.
Bai,

I signed up and I'm at my console home page. How do I set up a VPS? Do I launch an EC2 instance? Which flavor (linux, windows) of Amazon Machine Image should I choose?

Also, has anyone confirmed that this will help nxt network stability?

Why am I doing this when I can't even get my client to run properly? Tongue

I will do Windows set instructions later on tonight. I am with a customer at the moment and cannt do any work on NXT!!

Would be nice if some of the leaders/genii can confirm that this will help the stability of the newtork else its waste of time.

Step by step with images how to install a VPS in amazon:

AWS (aws.amazon.com) consol set up of a windows server to allow NXT running on it. Should be free for 1 year if you run 1 instance only and its t1 micro (at least it is free for me).
Step are the links (images/screenshots) below in chronological order:
They are really every click so its not as bad as it looks!! less than 20 clicks (simpleS)

https://www.dropbox.com/s/b6tawpzs1muupwl/AWS_STEP99.jpg

After you create and connect to the VPS using the remote desktop shortcut you need to set up Firewall Rule on the Server to allow everything for NXT.
Here are the steps:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/2r345y4j034g8tw/AWS_VPS1.jpg
https://www.dropbox.com/s/r26ee457vynt85z/AWS_VPS2.jpg

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ofkaxb7nlxodmre/AWS_VPS7.jpg
https://www.dropbox.com/s/0jmc9l305tragar/AWS_VPS8.jpg

DO NOT USE THIS VPS FOR REAL MONEY ACCOUNTS!!
Use them only to put more nodes on the network.

After you set up NXT you need to go in the web.xml file in ....webapps\root\WEB-INF
Open the web.xml and edit the section
         <param-name>myAddress</param-name>
         <param-value>PUT THE VPS IP HERE</param-value>
You can see the IP address in the Remote Desktop Connection Title.

The example VPS that I created is deleted now so there is no point trying to connect to it Smiley

Sorry for the big qoute above but it is free for a year. Have set one up today oh boy having a headache now, but its running alright.

so people set one up its free for one year.

EVERYONE.  Please sign up for this, even if you cannot manage it yourself. I CAN DO IT FOR YOU!!! FOR FREE!!  as long as you sign up for the service (be sure to select the t1 micro tier) under your amazon account you can  PM me the IP address and SSH key they give you and I will do it all.

No I dont need nor do I want your amazon credentials.  Just the IP and SSH key.

Be sure to tell it to use a debianOS so use this link: https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace/pp/B00AA27RK4  be sure to select x64 OS.
WHATEVER YOU DO DONT PICK THE WINDOWS OS.  i cannot manage those efficiently like i can these debian ones

As a bonus I will run these nodes under the vps.nxtcrypto.org domain so you will be able to see YOURSCREENNAME.vps.nxtcrypto.org out there in peer lists!

Does anyone know who is the author of the article ? He should be nominated for a reward in article category.

Hi there Grin Thanks for the kind words. I already got 230k in rewards for work in the nxt community. If there is more to give it should go to others.

I helped out in the code review forum, suggesting a couple of solutions to an attack, so don't forget me. Smiley
You, Anon, Alias & Utopian should start working together for the whitepaper asap. I hope cunicula will reappear.

I know I miss one more author of an important article which I can't find...

Also I DEMAND from the 13M fund at least 1M to be distributed for a group of authors writing a God damn WHITEPAPER asap!

Sounds great!  I think we should consider what gbeirn said:

Should stagger the setup dates so that in 2015 half of the nodes don't go down Cheesy

I'll set up a VPS on Amazon.  Perhaps we should do as above and stagger the launch dates just in case?   A hope-for-the-best-but-prepare-for-the-worst kind of approach in case bandwidth costs are higher than expected.

I don't like this..

yeah I wonder what goes into the stake holders heads!?!?
Obviously if they paid some nxt to make even better products the price will go nuts high and they will be Bill Gates Smiley hahaha
I have started to do a Windows program to run the whole client together with one double click of an EXE and have access within the windows program to all the features. I only spend a couple of nights to set the framework for doing the program in place using WPF to make it look sexy (here is a taste of it https://www.dropbox.com/s/clsavedw4y7pwta/phrase.jpg) but then I got dragged in my everyday work. I am a software contractor and I could take time off as much as I want to work on other things but then I get paid nothing and the bills, mortgage, family they need money! So my point is that I am sure there are other guys as well that can do even better product than me and if they get paid the overall nxt network will become better and better and the stakeholders capital will become more secure and more secure.
Is it not as simple as that!!?

The stage of the program is just only a basic frame at the moment. It just starts the nxt jetty server automatically on start up and can open an account by passing a passphrase. That's a great start because now its just a matter of calling API functions and showing the result in nice easy interface.
If there is someone else in here with c# I'd be happy to resume working on the code with him/her. I have a TeamFundation Server for source control this way few people can code the same project without overwriting each other.
I know from experience that there always has to be some sort of project managing and I don't mind to do it.

So my point is if the stake holders want a program where we have one msi package (installation file) which will install the NRS + a windows program with nice look and feel and then user only double clicks a short cut on their desktop and gets a working NXT client without any java settings, star.bat stop.bat etc here is the place to offer some priceless nxt and I am sure we (I) can organize a C# team to develop a proper nice easy to use nxt windows client.

Sounds like begging and I hate it!!! but with no money it be hard to have nice fancy stuff. 99% of the world population will not get what we are doing without having a simple one click EXE file to run it all!!!
Sorry for all the exclamation marks but got excited here hahaha

most of the time I will have a solution for it Smiley
My 2 nodes seems to be very stable and they are t1 micro windows. I have a 2008 server and 2012 same t1 spec. The 2008 64bit is performing better.

I helped out in the code review forum, suggesting a couple of solutions to an attack, so don't forget me. Smiley
You, Anon, Alias & Utopian should start working together for the whitepaper asap. I hope cunicula will reappear.

I know I miss one more author of an important article which I can't find...

Also I DEMAND from the 13M fund at least 1M to be distributed for a group of authors writing a God damn WHITEPAPER asap!

for 1/4 of a million i think i could be motivated to do that. Grin
Do you know if I have left an article author out?

sorry i have no idea. ill have to find some links to those guys articles.

If one can not confer upon another a right which he does not himself first possess, by what means does the state derive the right to engage in behaviors from which the public is prohibited?

Guys, I want maco to get rewarded full for his project from the 13M unclaimed coins.

If not I will stop promoting too and just pay my dev team (mainly to get experience so we can get involved in other projects too in the future).

Me, bybitcoin and 2-3 other stakeholders are the only ones paying for bounties atm.

What about BCNext? And the other stakeholders? Not to mention the 75M of Graviton to whom we must feel obliged of course because he is still in loss from the dgex business...

I don't like this..

yeah I wonder what goes into the stake holders heads!?!?

Klee, how many original stake holders do you know ? Of course, it would difficult to coordinate a group of anonymous accounts to do ANYTHING. As far as my experience here, I have just met one or maybe two original stakeholders who are not very supportive of NXT development amongst a dozen.
You should really not mention BCNext as if i am not wrong the guy codes the whole the core features of NXT network for free.

To original founders and big stack holders: if you dont have time to closely follow NXT development; but if you still want to be supportive of NXT community and its early-day fragile system, please contact me, I can be your proxy. I don't even need you handle me your NXT; I would just point out to you where your NXTs are needed to grow our eco-system.
At this point in time, your NXT is the most valuable. Please act, don't wait; because if you wait you can help to kill NXT's chance to become something really worthwhile, really important.

Now wouldn’t it be great to have something substantial before the start of a media campaign.

As of now I think nexern will have a client within three weeks.
Maybe you can work together with nexern and put it in a nice package.
And I agree with Klee we need the white paper.
Don’t know what others think about priotorization but imo:

1)   Stable running servers and software
2) white paper
3)   A nice looking client
4)   Media campaign

and if possible before the end of the month Grin
