Yeah, it can actually be a very bad thing to hit the exchanges right away. It happens all the time - guys with big money come in and manipulate the market, crash the price, etc. and then everyone jumps ship and the coin dies.
You're better off going onto an exchange after a few months, as long as you can keep the community interested and growing.

Oh my goodness did I get lucky!  Shocked

I decided to try solo mining a little while ago... just to give it a try.  Since my computer is running around a couple hundred Kh/s, I wasn't expecting to see anything for hours... I didn't even know if I had my miner set up correctly.  I think my account over at otakasamaaa's Graincoin Pool must have been deleted or something; even though I had an account over there, I couldn't log in.  Turns out that reregistering with the same user name and password worked.

So while I was registering at the pool over there... I found a block!  I had to have been mining for only about 10-15 minutes or so.  I think I got more GRA in 15 minutes than I have in the rest of the time that I spent mining... other than giveaways, LOL.

Anyhow... regarding earlier discussions here... I don't mind that GRA isn't on an exchange yet... the longer that this train keeps chugging along at low difficulty, the more of a chance that us little miners have to get some.  I would have very little chance finding a block in one of the highly hyped up coins like MOON or DOGE.  If this coin slowly grows and gains interest, perhaps there is less of a chance of this coin being pumped and dumped.

Yes, this is where luck comes in.  You must have had a block that your miner just happened to hit the right combination at the right time before the other miners or pools got it.  I have one rig that is 1.7MH - I did find a block when I was playing around with solo mining, but in the end I felt it was better to go with a pool.  Definitely DOGE and other coins are already at over 1GH - nothing much left for us smaller miners.  I was mining Anoncoin when it was only 20MH - now it is 1.5GH - should have kept them than sell them when I was mining - lesson to be learned.  Don't sell it all at once.

Noticed the same earlier today and wondered if it's normal. Last PoS is from 31.12.2013 at 18:59 UTC.

Yeah you're right on the 'harvesting' part. One thing is for sure, this is one nicely developed coin and I hope it'll get on Cryptsy.
Shame, that some people think that the recent coin startups are all useless.. maybe there are lots of other alternatives out there and lot of em are crappy, but here is the example of contrary of these.
I personally don't use much alt coins, mainly not the new ones, but this one really caught me. Smiley
POS block: nah, not since 12.31. but it's normal I assume. It must be at least.. Cheesy

Solo'ing is a waste of time. Join a pool and get paid for all your work.

Bozuatle I think it's not necessarily true, if you have more than 1-1,2MH mining power. (Tested it for some days, and the results of solo mining were 3-8% better than the pool mining.)
For the people with one GPU (assuming it is not a 7990) it's still better to mine in pools!

I mine solo when the total hashrate is below ~80kH/s and I'm only using 1 GPU (Radeon R9 290, 810kH/s). Sometimes it feels pool mining would have been better but love to get those blocks solo tho. And solomining with hashrates below 5% of total hashrate is always based on luck.  Roll Eyes

I really like this coin. There's something very down to earth about it. Maybe it's the name or that it's just quietly pacing along, but I like the small PoS stake that should provide much needed stability when it hits an exchange.

Feel like I'm a bit late to the game, though. I don't have a great mining rig, so anyone who also deals in other altcoins, I have a trading thread here if you are willing to trade a few grains.

I pool mined for about 12 hours. Now I'm going to solo mine for the same amount of time and see where that gets me.

Good thing about this coin is that the difficulty is still very low. It has only about tripled since i started mining it (2nd day from launch). So you are not late yet. Will be late when it hits an exchange. Difficulty will probably jump over 10x very fast. Ofc we don't know when/if it hits an exchange, but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't at some point. Developer is actively cummunicating with the supporters/miners and takes care of issues if there are any. Also both current pool owner's actively post here.

I like the slow organic growth model.  Careful, deliberate  and cooperative development are the only novel ideas I've heard in crypto for a while.  I think this could be a good coin to bring together the elements of crypto currency that don't care for meme coins and pump and dumps.  We "others" could rally behind this and go somewhere.  Do things right, like concentrate on charitable works that could use GRA.  If we could make a GRA food bank how amazing would that be?

Sounds really weird. Mine uses 3-4% of CPU.
