OPTiK: I have, using the qmake, which wasn't much trouble following the instructions. A corrupt wallet.dat however suggests that something went wrong with your wallet, so I sincerely hope you have a backup which you can put back. Others may give better advice here though.

Yeah this is a new wallet so don't really care about the wallet.dat file, just trying to figure out why wallet.dat is always corrupt even when the app makes a new one  Huh

P2Pool (recommended) and traditional pool available for VTC

P2Pool: http://vtcpool.co.uk:9171
Traditional MPOS pool: https://vtcpool.co.uk

P2Pool setup guide and FAQ

Why use p2pool?

  • Mined coins are deposited directly in your wallet in the generation payment for the block,
they are never held by a pool wallet and can't be lost due to failures or hacking/thefts
  • Even if the node you connect to fails, you don't lose the coins you mined - your shares are distributed on the network
  • Distributed (less vulnerable to DoS attacks, less chance of big pools having enough hashrate to be capable of a 51% attack)
  • Private (you are paid with coinbase transactions and your public key is never seen on the network until you spend the funds)

Feel free to use https://vtcpool.co.uk if you prefer a traditional pool. Especially, users with lower hashrates may find earnings
are better on the traditional pool. There is room for a mixture of pool types, but please help further strengthen the decentralisation
of Vertcoin by using p2pool if it works well for you.

To mine on p2pool, use your VTC address as username, and any password, so your command line should be like:

vertminer -o stratum+tcp://vtcpool.co.uk:9171 -u Vw44xQPqgwbqZVpRzPoHe6M4jAGYceiZZP -p x

Please follow the advice in the P2Pool setup guide and FAQ about setting your minimum
share difficulty - this will prevent HW errors and stales and improve your mining income.

Although I'm not quite sure about the whole "Verter" tag. What say the community? Are we Verters now?!?

Tbh i don't really like the tag. It could be easily changed to something like Pervert(er) by people that don't want the coin around giving it a bad image instantly

The rest of the article is just awesome! Vertcoin is making a big jump

The best way to market this coin is to make sure we mention it whenever we see a discussion about Litecoin ASICs anywhere (whether it's here, on r/litecoin, the litecoin forums etc).

When people complain about the Litecoin ASICs are coming, tell them about vertcoin! Make it clear it's GPU friendly and it's based off scrypt just like litecoin.

If we market this correctly I see huge growth potential. We want Vertcoin as the the default "go-to" coin for disgruntled Litecoiners. Whenever Litecoin ASICs get mentioned, we want Vertcoin to be the first coin that gets mentioned next.

It would be great to have a dedicated Media/PR page on the coin website - hopefully this is something the guy/gal who is leading the PR campaign can organise, as well as press releases, perhaps some "soundbites" that non techies like me can use to talk about and spread the news about the coin?

Well me personally I am thinking of spending a few hundred dollars on an advertising campaign.

Specifically so we get the message across that Vertcoin is here and ready to accomodate the Litecoin miners who want a scrypt coin which is truly asic resistant whilst still being GPU friendly.

I want to create a separate topic for this, would you guys think this announcements subforum section is appropriate?

I will be collecting ideas exactly how to execute the campaign. Hopefully others will chip in with some donations but either way if it's just me it will still be a few hundred dollars worth of advertising.

To elaborate on this I've decided am going to run some advertising to promote Vertcoin on reddit. I'm going to run my ideas past the reddit/r/vertcoin community tomorrow.

I got it working Smiley The issue was that I set the UPNP option to 0, so I'm sure if I just configured my router it would of worked. I recompiled with UPNP enabled and everything seems to be working great!

FYI - This was on ubuntu 13.10.

vert.bitcrush.info now is 41% of network hashrate.

it would be a shame to have this coin killed because of the 51% attack.

Great. One thought is for the community to post links to discussions about Litecoin ASICs on the forum, this might help point community members (especially non-techies like me!) in the right direction to go and reply/spread the word/repost etc. I don't really get reddit, and am not on the litecoin forum etc but would be happy to try them out if pointed in the right direction. I will continue to flag up notable tweets in this way. I might even try to write a guide to joining Twitter, tweeting and retweeting if there was interest?!? HTH.
