GENTS - PLEASE HELP THE NETWORK

I have noticed, with my forgetting to build UPNP into the KGW release wallets, that my pool (which is one of the DNS seeds) has a LOT of incoming connections. The same is doubtless true of the other DNS seeds.

This means it won't be long, with the growth we're seeing before people can't sync wallets again, because no-one running the KGW wallet released a week or so back is accepting incoming connections - it's just us at the DNS seeds.

Please, for the good of the network, update to the wallets linked below.

This update is in no way mandatory, and nothing else apart from UPNP being built in has changed, but it would really help the network if you'd take a minute to update.

http[Suspicious link removed] if you want the installer, http://vertcoin.org/downloads/Vertcoin-Qt-Win.zip if you prefer just the plain files.

Consider it done.

VERT.BITCRUSH.INFO

CLOSE registration for a while, its 46% of network right now!!!

Aside from hypotheticals does it matter in practice if they break 51%? Seems game theory wins out here, all benefit from a strong coin at this point, no?

Yeah in actuality it doesn't matter as long as they don't use the hash power to attack the coin. And some large pool or miner could always shift more hash power to the coin than the coin has in total right now. But on principal it's best to have hash power spread out.

Question has been rolling in my head long enough I have to ask. Since all the miners are connected for payments and hashing etc, how is it that there is no instant messaging system built into the network? Is this an anonymity issue or something technical, or what. Seems impossible to me that there is no twitter for miners given the stakes involved in miscommunication and level of technical ability required to mine in the first place. What am I missing?

(edit- realize this maybe off topic as not really specific to VTC, if you want I will punt it, let me know)

This is my .bat file as per boristhespiders instructions  "vertminer -o stratum+tcp://vtcpool.co.uk:9171 -u "vert address"+0.001508 -p x"  (have 1300kh)  does absolutely nothing but shuts down CP instantly.

I have no " in my cfg at all i only have them there for show to highlight the part where you would put your address.  vertminer -o stratum+tcp://vtcpool.co.uk:9171 -u vert address+0.001508 -p x

When you say "shuts down CP instantly", do you mean your computer crashes and you have to reboot? That would normally be hardware errors due to minimum difficulty work I'd think, but your command line does look correct. Is vertminer working OK for you on normal pools?

I have also twice now tried to sign up on boristhespiders pool to only be told my password is wrong, it isn't.  And with a new name and email it now just says "token expired" so i guess i shall give up on trying to use boris site for the normal way of mining for me.

Hi Kestrel,

Sorry about this. Please PM me your username - I'll manually unlock your account. I checked the logs, and no email confirmations have failed, so you should have received it, but if you'd like to try again I'm happy to unlock it.

Ok I shall pm you.

My PC is fine it is just the vertminer will not stay on screen for more than a split second before disappearing.  Usually i would put this down to intensity being to high or some other issue but i was running a bare bones cfg like the one you posted.

Update: I think i may have just spoken to you via email, will await reply on there.

Wow, we're really moving up today!

Poloniex traded .001 last, super wide bid/ask but made it there all the same.

Lots of ping pong in small orders at coinedup but the large orders have been heavily skewed to the buy side.

Smart money moving in. Buy the dips.

So I'm having trouble getting consistent payouts on P2Pool.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I contributed even a single share to a block that we found, I should get some tiny payout on that block, right?

This has been my rate for about the last hour:
Worker Rate: 935kH/s (Stale: 5.35%)

And we've found a few blocks.

Yet, I've not got a single payout.

I was getting payouts earlier today, what's gone wrong?

Anyone have any ideas?

is it efficient to mine in a p2pool with only 233 or 350 khash? compared to a pool, that is.

Yes, that's plenty enough hashrate. We'll get a proper calculation done soon, but that will be way above the hashrate at which it's better to be on a traditional pool.

LEAVE BITCRUSH NOW

If you are mining at Bitcrush, please STOP

If these pool operators can't keep on top of their proportion of the hashrate, and don't care enough about the network to temporarily disable registrations, hit them where it hurts - right in the pocket.

From now on, I will have no hesitation in posting a similar note, and repeatedly spamming the thread with it to take users away from them if another pool does the same. No-one has to listen to me, but hopefully a few of you will see the importance of moving away from a pool that's getting too big.

Please move to p2pool if you are able. There is a nodelist at http://p2pool.vertcoin.org:9172/ and a guide to p2pool at https://vtcpool.co.uk/p2pool-guide.html

If you prefer a traditional pool, at the moment, all of these pools are quite small, and are good candidates to move to, they are also all pools that have been around for a while and seem trustworthy and reliable (the Vertcoin.org ones are owned by vertcoin himself, and I believe the vertcoin.in ones as well, vtc.pool.pm has been around for a while and seems good):

EU.VERTCOIN.ORG - Hashrate: 0 Khash/s - Workers: 0
VTC.POOL.PM - Hashrate: 3.62 Mhash/s - Workers: 79
NY.VERTCO.IN - Hashrate: 3.05 Mhash/s - Workers: 43
HK.VERTCO.IN - Hashrate: 3.73 Mhash/s - Workers: 14
LA.VERTCOIN.ORG - Hashrate: 5.03 Mhash/s - Workers: 22

I was on bitcrush and that site is a utter joke lately.  Today i got only 33 coins which i still have some unconfirmed(all day).  They have the nerve to charge a 2% pool fee, 0.4 manual TX fee and an amazing 0.1 fee for auto payouts.  Plus it is slow as hell and i should of got way more than 33 coins for a whole day at 1.3MH.

We just mined block 28273.

http://explorer.vertcoin.org/block/32d1cc11ab49c1c0dea38fe0cc5e4e203d6df925b0e421b608a07dfd6ba7c292

I'm quite certain that I submitted shares, yet no payout?  I really don't want to go to a regular pool, but I can't keep burning electricity for nothing...

I'm sorry - it seems my pool just beat you to it! http://explorer.vertcoin.org/block/4a31473891064f615e190d2368fef2fe11f6690420f85b08fc7e0e54c43f91af

I suspect your block is about to go orphan, but who knows - mine might! Good luck.

EDIT: PS. maybe you got unlucky on 28278, but p2pool just mined 28279 and 28280 back-to-back, so your luck seems to have turned!

Does anyone know what's up with the NY or LA pools? Both are on the fritz today. I was hoping to hear something or at least that it's being worked on.

Backed up to the p2p pool but my regular LA hashrate there is about 30% and I haven't been paid yet today.

Hopefully this all gets sorted out soon. Thanks!

Yeah I had to switch away from LA today , due to the issues Sad  It was smooth going for awhile though.

I've also had trouble with p2p: for some reason i don't get as many accept shares as often with p2p vs traditional pools.. is that normal?
