I'm glad there are signs of hitting walls with mining. Here's why. If you have read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niall_Ferguson book "The Ascent of Money" and looked at the influx of gold from the new world when it was first discovered, it caused huge inflation and people couldn't afford to buy bread. Too much supply of gold (money) caused the problem. Scarcity keeps inflation at bay. Same thing with cryptos, too much supply will do the same thing. That's why I'm here. ASICs can't come and blow it apart. Vertcoin is now synchronized to the ebb and flow of a real economy. It's now tied to finite resources. For the good of the coin, we need to strengthen everything for security and deal with dodgy behavior immediately to keep the bar very high. That is marketable! Not sure who can help on these items but they should be addressed: 1. There are changes needed to the Vertcoin Wallet as it isn't syncing properly. Thread: http://www.reddit.com/r/vertcoin/comments/1x0zda/how_to_get_your_wallet_to_sync/2. My AV found a virus in the Windows download "cpuminer-vert-Aleks_N.zip" Suggest removing this download completely as CPU mining is long gone. CPU mining was already too late by Feb 2nd. Other's who've seen my postings. Poloniex support has been very, very responsive! Kudos.

Probably a false positive, this occurs often with cryptocoin wallets and related software. I highly doubt the devs released a virus with their miner, I use this program just fine.

Why is every share getting rejected at pools?
You must be using cgminer instead of vertminer (a vertcoin compatible mod of cgminer)? Vertcoin doesn't use standard scrypt.

Finally works, thx. Only 1 question more..... is normal 3.8 Khash/s? 3.8 is very low, but it all depends on your card. pls check out the settings thread

So, my rig might be hitting a wall with VTC. I have a 4 card rig, been running consistent since I started mining VTC. This morning I look, the card hooked to the monitor can no longer provide any hash power (from 300-350 down to 4). The other 3 are the same as before I went to bed.
Rebooted, tried an alternate set of settings that worked before (albeit lower hash per card), still nothing.
Also tested regular scrypt mining to see if maybe the card was dying, it works fine on regular CGMiner.
Anyone else facing similar issues?

There is a very real possibility that Vertcoin, with it's innovative features can overtake Bitcoin. Bitcoin and Litecoin will drop in price while Vertcoin will rise, eventually surpassing Bitcoin entirely.
I will be writing an article about this possibility. Change must happen, Bitcoin and Litecoin are simply not secure enough to be considered a viable currency in the long run, there is massive hoarding in both. Fortunately with only a little over 1,000,000 Bitcoin wallets being created, there is VERY little adoption, which gives Vertcoin a strong chance at contention.
The next step is MARKETING MARKETING MARKETING. I don't mean viral marketing, I mean real business oriented marketing. Vertcoin needs to be taken seriously

Just a heads up that I haven't been able to make account changes at vert.bitcrush.info now to add withdrawal info or auto payment. I received no e-mail to unlock this info and contacting the pool operator turned up nothing.
I have been down this road before with other altcurrencies so I would exercise some caution and/or flip to another pool.

Divide your hashrate by the difficulty and that'll give you a good idea

If it can be ported to the GPU, why not ASIC?
ASIC can't have large memory?
Remember X86_64 processors are ASICs for x86_64 instructions and GPU is the ASIC for OpenGL and OpenCL.
Considering CPUs and GPUs are not ASICs for 'n-factor scrypt' there's always a scope of improvement.

I really do like the idea of Vertcoin. Still, two things come to my mind:
1.) Claiming something is "ASIC proof". No algorithm is that. You can always develop an ASIC. GPUs are ASICs, after all. Take the design of a GPU, strip everything not needed for Vertcoin mining and that's your VTC-ASIC. Still, of course, that ASIC would be way more complex than any SHA/BTC ASIC and would require loads of fast memory, thus making it very expensive (compared to SHA and even scrypt/LTC ASICS). But this immediately leads to my second point.
2.) How bad are ASICs after all? With SHA, there is a low entry level for developing an ASIC. With VTC, this "entry barrier" would be much higher. Imagine VTC would be as popular as BTC is now. I'm going to guarantee you that at least one person/group would be into developing a VTC ASIC. But that's the problem: Only few entities would have the funds to do so, much fewer than with Bitcoin. After all, this will lead to more centralization, not less.
I don't like that "hobby mining" is gone in the Bitcoin world, I don't like how much current ASICs are overpriced.
But I still think the Bitcoin network is better off with all the ASICs than the VTC network would be.
