With such a risky chart those buys are for one thing only - profit from the pump. Therefore I would exercise caution.
There will certainly be profit taking. But that has happened on every coin during valuation revisions. The amount of profit taking that goes on depends on the long term viability of the asset. The money doesn't just come out of this coin - it's got to go into another that the holder thinks will be more profitable. On the other hand, if they think this one is, it'll stay in. Also remember these coins are open source, features are only as valuable as the time it takes for someone to copy it to another coin (i.e. days/weeks). Or am I wrong about this?
Originals are originals. Once they acquire a dominant market position it's very difficult to shake them loose. They certainly don't get shaken loose by clones that improve on the technology. Look at: Bitcoin Peercoin Litecoin NXT All of these are top 10 market caps which have existing competitors or impending ones which are way more advanced in their technology sector. Yet it doesn't do jack to their valuations. That's because there are socio-economc reasons for their persistence which are way more powerful than improved or copied technology. For a start, once the majority of the market's invested in something, they need a damn good reason to go through the whole painful process to de-invest and re-invest in an untried competitor who's ultimate valuation is a complete unknown. The market wants safety. It doesn't care about better technology once it's found one that "works". How many "coins" have copied Bitcoin's source code ? How many coins have Bitcoin's valuation ? How many "coins" have copied Litecoin's source code ? How many coins have Litecoin's valuation ? Also, as the dev of this coin stated earlier in this thread. "Are they going to clone me ?". And that is a very relevant point, because he is a known quantity who has established a record of technical competence and delivery that probably outweighs any marginal technical advantages that a competitor might come up with. Also, it has now been stated that so called "signature coins" are on the RC3 roadmap for Darkcoin. That just about hammers the final nail in the coffin for any prospective competitive threat for me - in the medium term at least. Just sayin. You can't ignore facts in front of your face. (At least I can't ).

That would make me choose DRK over BTC! Man, I would really love to see that one happening Even if that also means that all the big guns/goons/govs come strikin' heavy into the drk door, it would, for sure, establish drk as something different, people would stop seeing drk/btc has the refference valuation currency pair and would finally look at drk/usd, drk/eur, drk/rub, etc has the effective markets - DRK would free it self from the bitcoin heritage forever.

Darkcoin, on the other hand has substance. It offers 100% anonymity, a ASIC resistant, x11 algo, and Dark Gravity Well. It improves upon what Bitcoin never could.
My perspective on DRK has been that BTC will continue to become more mainstream and accepted by the genpop (similar path that PayPal took) and more and more you'll be able to "check out" with BTC. With mainstream acceptance for BTC that will come, so will more apprehensions about the public ledger from those who are concerned about privacy. There will eventually be a void that will need to be filled by something. For what? Well, personally I hope that DRK (post launch) will be adopted more and more for for things like VPN rentals, proxy services, whatever and wherever privacy might be an issue. And while most won't say it, I will, I hope that DRK gets adopted by the silk road crowd for buying their pot with! The official stance is that DRK would not condone it, but it also can't prevent it. To ME that's where I see the real growth and potential for actually taking a very big chunk of BTC's market.

Folks, remember when your comparing prices, you've got to take account of the coin supply. DRK's current coin supply is on third of Bitcoin's and a fifth of Litecoin's. That means if you value DRK at, say, half Litecoin's price then the supply corrected target price would be (LTC x 5) / 2 = 0.06 BTC. I'm not saying that half LTC's price is the right or wrong valuation, that's for people to decide themselves. I'm just saying you need to take account of coin supply when calculating it. Another thing that's going reduce DRK's coin supply is the amount of DRK that's removed from it to support masternodes. That will further drive the price because that part of the supply will never reach any markets.

Evan should down the 1000 darks that are necessary to create a masternode to 500 at least cause when the network reach the 100.000 masternodes, the 50% of the coins will be out of markets.
