Don't be too excited, I put all my info in and then realized too late that it was only demo and there is no security yet ;P  Least I made up a new password not used anywhere else (whew!)  LOL

Still... I need to be more careful.  I just decided a while ago that I would trust this when it was first announced in order to support what I think will be one of the most important things to come to the crypto world . Please don't let us down, give it excellent security please!

Although the site doesn't have encryption just yet it does have several forms of security already added to it. Also, there are no coins stored on the site, nor will there be, and I am the only one on the site with access to anyone's info. If that doesn't make you feel better, I also run several other crypto related sites and I'm not too difficult to track down if you have any questions.

Why Bytecoin/Monero and other Cryptonote Clones Should Not be Used:
I know many of you must know of the Cryptonote Coins, such as Bytecoin, Quazarcoin, Monero, HoneyPenny, and FantomCoin ( https://cryptonote.org/coins.php)

I have researched those coins long and hard, here are my conclusions on why they would never work.

1) Monero, Quazarcoin, HoneyPenny, and FantomCoin are all Clones of Bytecoin
2) Those 4 coins all possess the exact same features as Bytecoin since they were forked/cloned from Bytecoin's sourcecode
3) They all use Ring Signatures for anonymity, but the problem is, Ring Signatues has severe bloating issues, to the extent that the Monero blockchain is 8x bigger than then Bitcoin Blockchain
4) The Bitcoin Blockchain takes an average 8 hours to fully sync(faster or longer depending on the comp)
5) 8x8 is 64, so that means the Monero blockchain takes 64 hours to fully sync, which means that you would be unable to send or recieve transactions until that 64 hours is over and the blockchain is fully synced
6) Monero has been destroyed by Botnets, which are computers compromised by Hackers that mine Monero 24/7, 365, I wouldn't be surpised if Hackers control more than  70% of the Monero coin Supply atm
7) None of the 4 Cryptonote Clones have any innovation

Conclusion: Bytecoin is the only reputable coin out of all the Cryptonote clones because; They(Monero, Quazarcoin, HoneyPenny, and FantomCoin) were cloned/copied from Bytecoin, and because of that, are extremely unlikely to have much of a future, Clones
never make it far.

interesting analysis. however, you couldnt be more wrong or biased against cryptonote. I am happy to see someone is so intimidated by monero and the likes =)

1. "...clones of bytecoin" bytecoin is 80% premined. the monero devs saw potential in the concept, but needed to do something about the premine issue, so monero was created with a fair distribution. Once people saw the succes/potential of monero, copycats popped up. see fantomcoin, quazarcoin, honeypenny, and boolberry.

2. "...exact same features as bytecoin" false, not even close, do some homework buddy.

3. 8 times bigger? again, do your homework.

4. 8 hours for bitcoin to sync? sounds about right, but I have seen it take as little as 6 and as many as 48. depends on a lot of factors.

Dark Wallet is open source. Anyone can copy and develop for their coin yet no coin has AFAIK. At the moment not many financial incentives to develop it, as it primarily benefits bitcoin.

Darksend is closed source because of copying and hype concerns. The team wants to perfect the code before releasing the code. However, full valuation cannot be reached until the code is open. Gmaxwell stated he will not audit closed source code, which is fair enough. We cannot have our cake and eat it. Code auditors will probably not fully dispel suspicion anyway. If code is opened up, auditors won't be required because everyone will do their own checks. Just one viewpoint among many I'm sure.

The real concern is releasing code that does not fully work and causing price of darkcoin to plummet. That would be a tragedy but on the other hand more solutions will pop up from other vectors, which darkcoin can use. Difficult choice. I think this may take a while to sort out.

I'm trying to set up a local wallet + remote wallet masternode configuration. My local machine is a windows pc, and when I finally get to the point where I can type "masternode start mypassword" I get the following error:

inbound port is not open. Please open it and try again. (19999 for testnet and 9999 for mainnet)

Question: do I have to have port 9999 open in the local wallet as well?

This is my local .conf:
addnode=23.23.186.131
masternode=1
masternodeaddr=REMOTE_IP:9999
masternodeprivkey=***

And this is the remote .conf:
addnode=23.23.186.131
listen=1
masternode=1
maxconnections=256
masternodeprivkey=***

Only if it's not communicating with your remote.

Yes, both wallet's .conf file has the masternodeprivkey generated on the local wallet.

The local masternode address, if it has anything, it should be it's own masternodeprivkey, not the remote's.  Not 100% sure it is needed, but mine has it, and it is the local privkey in the local conf. (edit: I do think it needs it in order to be started as a masternode )

The remote also gets the local privkey.  Not sure if you just wrote that up backwards, but it won't work unless remote has local's privkey.

Yes have port 9999 open on the local to verify with the remote during the initial setup. Then you'll be able to close the local wallet and port.

I'm seriously not trying to pick on monero or anyone, but isn't monero about half as old as drk?  If it already takes 6 hours to sync, I would think there is a serious problem with the size of the blockchain.  DRK only takes about 10 minutes.  Now this might be because the wallets aren't getting connections.  But if that's not the case, I would think that is an issue that needs to be dealt with immediately.

I mean, we have our own issues we need to resolve still, such as darksending larger amounts and improvements to anonymity, etc... all in the works.  But one can't turn a blind eye to a bloated block chain either.  That could quickly cripple a coin. Just saying.

On the other hand, I know the developers are aware of this.  I am looking forward to seeing their solution.
