Please, let's not kill each other over the rebranding. Darkcoin is much more than just a name. It is a technology and it a community.

I fucking love the Darkcoin brand. If we kept it, I would get a tattoo someday. My first tattoo. I like how it sounds and I like what it represents. However, I have also talked with enough businesses and people outside our bubble to know that it also has some bad associations that we can't deny. Do we lose something by changing it? of course. Do we lose something by keeping it? also, of course.

This is not math, we all can have different opinions and there is no right or wrong. I really do believe that for the future it makes more sense to change, as painful as it is. But I do respect those who believe that we should keep it. I used to believe that we should change it, but not yet. However, the more time we take, the more difficult it will be to do it later, so it really doesn't make a lot of sense to delay things a lot.

As for Dash, I really like it. It is not as edgy as Darkcoin and I probably won't ever tattoo it in my body, but it may serve us really well. We can build the brand from scratch to make it what we want it to be. It has no implicit associations, it is a blank canvas for us to work with.

Anyway, nothing is set in stone yet. Let's talk about it and let's build something great.

when i read the post about rebranding i was kinda hoping this would be an very early 1st of april foolsday joke.

So we are going for a third rebranding in what ? less then 16 months ? i sure hope you guys know what you are doing and
have really thought this through because with a rebranding you will have so much lost already (name recognition for a start)
and its very unsure you achieve what your hoping to achieve with the name Dash. And to be honest i'm not getting any vibe
from the name Dash so i'm not too thrilled about that part either.

my two duffs,

Agreed. Changing the name is going to do bugger all for mass adoption, and "Dash" is just plain crap.

Happy to drop the "coin" bit though.

Mass doesn't know darkcoin yet,so there's no problem.

Mass just start to know about bitcoin.be soft,we're not a b market,with 18m market cap we can just growth from where we are,and with all feature finish and other come,how can thing it can be damageable ? New user will build the future of Dash,we're are nothing at this stage

+1

I work with clients that have incomes greater than Dark's whole entire market cap. Anyone thinking it is "established" is thinking so entirely small. It's an awfully big world out there and the crypto community is only but a small niche of that (and Darkcoin's share of that niche is but a sliver).

Darkcoin may very reach a multi-hundred million dollar market cap sticking with its name, but the single greatest issue with crypto as it stands today is user adoption. You can argue all you want about legacy and it got us to where we are, but it's all about perspective. Maybe some of you are fine at that valuation but if a name change (and rebrand) allows the coin to be a billion dollar+ marketcap (competing on the same level as BTC) due to more user acceptance and usage, are you really going to argue against that? Really? There is more upside potential in welcoming all types of users that aren't discouraged by the name than keeping it for the sake of keeping it.

I like the name "darkcoin" but I can understand the reason to change it to attract a wider population. IMO @tungfa you have to put the video promotion on hold.

The video promotion is now fully funded, Evan donated 150 DRK personally and the bounty fund donated 150 DRK to complete the funds. Producing this will take at least 45 days, so the expectation is that the name change will be sorted out before that and the video will come out with the new brand to help push the transition, as changing the name is just the beginning of the re-branding process.

No killing yet, but some people are not respecting others and I wanted to remind everyone that we are all in the same boat.

Going to be hard to let Dark as a name go after this past year. And being the dominant anon focused coin.. it's in the name.

That said this could be the difference between overtaking LTC in price vs overtaking them in marketcap.

Don't worry qwizzie everyone else knows you are awesome.

Darkcoin is no longer solely a privacy-centric coin. With IX, that opens the doors for even more usage from those that just want fast confirms for that sake of POS-type sales.

DASH is a pretty perfect name.  It opens doors for the coin while clearly embodying the coins key features in the name (speed and anonymity).  DASH is obviously another term for fast, and sounds like word Cash (which as everyone knows cash is anonymous), and can be seen both as short for Digital-Cash (for new members) and Dark-Cash (for early adopters).  Another plus is it can be used as a verb, as in, "Dash me the payment".  DASH really helps us forge forward without forgetting our past.  I highly doubt we'll be able to find another name that does nearly as much.

I said it before and I'll say it again

just make it:    DRK

You're still verbally using the word "Dark", otherwise, it's just a mouthful: "Do you accept dee are kay"?

I still don't know how I feel about it..  seems kind of silly to "dash me the payment".  Dark is cool.. I'd like to say dash is growing on me, but i feel like it's the equivalent to my daughter's leap pad.. maybe that's the goal?

When explaining to someone that I'm invested in dash, I will most likely have to mention it used to be called dark.. but..

Dark doesn't have to be a bad thing.. and when speaking to IX, i picture a beautiful lightning strike in the night sky.

I think logos and color schemes will very much alter how people feel about the 'dash' name specifically. I would be very interested in seeing some ideas that do not keep the current D (though i liked it very much)

So what am I going to do with this giant tattoo of darkcoin on my back,
are you suggesting I now get blasted with high power lasers, scrub it down and change the name?

Dash is 27.3 times faster with syncing and updating than Bitcoin and 93.7 times faster than Monero. Bitcoin (v0.11.0) has a Tao ratio 11.2% faster than bitcoin (v0.10.0) release.
Dash (v.0.12.0.49) = Tao sync ratio = 0.15 seconds / hour of update || Dash (v.0.11.2.23) = Tao sync ratio = 0.24 seconds / hour of update. V12 versus V11 speedup = +36.5%
Bitcoin (v.0.11.0) = Tao sync ratio = 4.14 seconds / hour of update || Monero (v.0.41.1)  = Tao sync ratio = 14.2 seconds / hour of update
