Good to get this out the way and perhaps use the animated video to debut the new branding?

Thank you Evan, this is great. As we grow into a full solution that includes many features and services we need a new brand that can represent all aspects of the project.  I love Dash - digital cash, I hope the foundation is able to register it. As is more of an empty container and can acquire the true properties of the project, fungibility, speed of confirmation, security, decentralization, etc. I just feel we outgrew Darkcoin and I am glad we are moving into the next stage. This is going to be awesome.

Well we just finished the fund raiser today, so the work will really start now. The steps of production are the following:

1. Script
2. Voice Over
3. Story Board
4. Illustrations
5. Animations & Sound effects

Each stage requires careful consideration and work, so a rough estimate would be about 45 days, but it is early to tell. The important thing is we will have a very high quality explainer video we can feature on the Dash website.

Rebranding...huh.   Undecided

To be frank, I am not completely sure about this.  The fact is that controversy also brings attention and I am not sure that DRK doesn't need a whole lot more attention before it can be seen as a success.

I am not going to make a big deal out of this as it is already decided -- I will just say that if this rebranding is going to succeed there will need to be a lot of organized PR (foundation organized) with everybody on the same page. Otherwise it will just turn into a big, confused mess. I have faith in the team, but if there has been one achilles heal of the Darkcoin project it has been unfocused, unorganized PR...

As for the scalability idea, it sounds really awesome. I just hope current developments are seen all the way through to mainnet (speficially masternode blinding) before something of that magnitude is undertaken.

My 2 duffs...

The silent majority lamba user doesn't buy darkcoin because its dark, its fear,doubt...The silent majority doesn't post on forum to say something, because the silent majority is the margin population who still doesn't understand well how computer work, security, and all thing about... Lets say a fact,Dark(or Dash now) is ready to move from our geek base user to something more serious, hit the world with loud noise !

'ya know, never thought of that, until the other day.

Here in Portugal (and obviously being puppets to the UK), on the news, they very vaguely said something like "anyone supporting or visiting terrorist inciting website will be considered a criminal". They're having the secret service hawk down on people.

The actual explanation is so vague I'm starting to fear for going on TOR a few months back just to learn wtf it was all about and how it works.

And for who think we should consider black market... Lets be logic, community can't support something illegal like this, but this is darkcash, anybody can do what they want with his money, so taking distance from black market idea is a very good thing,it will push adoption on everyside, doesn't need an darkname to hit darkmarket, look bitcoin ...

Moving from Darkcoin could be a very bad decision.....Dark has already built a solid base around brand loyalty not to mention the whole switch could turn out to be a cluster fuck. Dont think the dark aspect really matters, this coin has gotten to where it is now despite people saying the name suggests dark use cases. I know plenty of people vested in this coin that have never even been to a DNM. Also being named darkcoin has gotten the coin tons of previous free publicity as bitcoins darker cousin. Bloomberg, CNN and The Guardian just to name a few.... Again just an opinion but this is a very slippery slope that darkcoin is going to be walking

Dude, You think like a cryptographer(lol) Stop this stupid game.... Name has nothing with community, more about work done and feature. Community will only growth,if someone leave only because name well... its a very regrettable move ! We have more feature than bitcoin, development move faster than bitcoin...  I seriously don't care about bitcoin now,Dash(dark,or other name) is the future of currency  Smiley

Dollars, darkcoin, dash... What difference ? None, except doubt or trust in mass adoption. So move on and lets see what happen Smiley Like you said,we have our user base and it won't move

It's a good job we're dropping the 'coin' element...

https://who.is/whois/dashcoin.org

Some smart cookie was nearly one step ahead...

Which brings me onto my question, Dash is a pretty common word... How are we going to be able to standardise our web/social media presence without suffixing the Dash name with something? Naturally, dash.com, dash.net, dash.org are all taken...

I'm supportive of the rebranding in general but I think that the idea needs to be fleshed out a bit more so that the community can understand how it will work in practice.
