Why should there exist such a manipulation @ anonymousxx

There can be various reasons. The first assumption would be that someone wants to buy it very low and then manipulate or let it grow naturally upwards and make a lot of money. It's most likely as simple as that. Other than that you can have competitors drive down your price pretty effectively. But there is clearly manipulation as you can see in my gif.

And this has been going on for weeks! (or it feels like it!)

The catch is, it has to be someone who got in early...

Check out VTC in cryptsy, it's exactly the same (even exactly same dummy quantity), someone is manipulating VTC as well, and if you check the price for the last week it's working very well.

"“There is an irony here. Bitcoins exist to avoid institutions, and now we will have institutions.”"

Uhm, no... BitCoins exist to avoid manipulation, theft by official fiat, corruption, etc... "Institutions" were just the proxy for these bad things... "Institutions" are not necessarily evil or to be avoided. Just the dirty ones... There will still be a market for those who prefer to be less integrated. This is BitCoin's choice, offered to you... Treat it just like the money you already have, or do something better. For the people who wrote that article, it's just another fluctuating object to flip and flop as various value containment objects bounce around... One that will most likely move in the opposite direction of other investments kinda like Gold v Inflation. They only understand enough about it to speak in that context. At least it's a half-truth...

+1 for DRK

Also, the phrase "We didn't have enough bitcoins, so we just printed more to pay all the bills," will never be seriously said. That's my favorite.

"We didn't have enough bitcoins, so we just printed more to pay all the bills" = inflation = theft by official fiat.

;-)

Skipped over that first time around. Figures . . half the time i read like three words of peoples posts before I start writing then go back and read it after I wrote it.

Either way . . at least when people decide that it's okay to skim off the top with fake hashrates and don't contribute any actual work and then take those coins right to the market to sell them for the immediate price . . we can just patch the vulnerability. Same situation IMO. The worst is that most of these people are elected in the comparison.

is the test still happening?  I just put a miner on it?

Testnet seed down. no connection.

point your miner to real pool, not testnet.

real pool?  You mean stratum+tcp://asia02.mine.nu:13990 ?  No work is available at the moment...?

No, any pool. you wanted. test is over now, I think.

DarkGravityWave On Testnet (Starting over) -- Please Help!

Alright, one more try. I've changed some of the internals, the fast average is now an EMA and the diff is an EMA. So they diff retarget should be pretty accurate now! Looks good from over here.

Add these lines to your config:
addnode=54.83.59.220
testnet=1

*clear testnet3, in your config dir

And download one of these:

Windows QT: http://www.darkcoin.io/downloads/develop/darkcoin-qt.exe
Ubuntu QT: http://www.darkcoin.io/downloads/develop/darkcoin-qt
Ubuntu Daemon: http://www.darkcoin.io/downloads/develop/darkcoind

The difficulty is calculated by a slow and fast moving average and the average difficulty for the last few blocks. You should see the difficulty adjust over a period of 10-30 blocks and osculate around the correct difficulty.

If everything is setup correct you should see we're on block 20

Here's the block explorer for testnet: http://54.83.59.220:1234/chain/DarkCoin

Try downloading the daemon again and making sure you cleared out testnet3? That's definitely the old daemon, I removed the debug messages

I think someone setup stratum earlier? I'll point my GPU at it if they give the creds and address
