BTW, I dont know if this has been addressed since I was without internet the better part of last week... but with InstantX, if the Masternodes are confirming the tx, then what is the roll of miners?

With InsantX miners are just going to act as a fallback, but they will still be processing any non-InstantX transactions, if there's a SnailTX option.

Want to report that the unpredicable varaiance has stopped for me.
Momantary it looks like i receive a payment all 1100-1300 blocks.

I only have one MN, so i think others owning more MN can report the same ?

Yeah pretty boring. Like bloody clockwork. It's taken all the fun out of my morning MN check.  Undecided

i thought master nodes just lock amounts until its processed by miners to the blockchain.. but didn't follow the conversation about instantTX entirely

Thats the whole point. With InstantX, make it default and thats it. No more GPU mining. No more ASICs forever. Just very low CPU intensive algo daemon mining + MN PoS in one, and done deal.

That would essentially devastate BTC altogether.

yeah, pretty much. Evan even explains how in this testnet version there is a but in the green confirmed check mark, but if he right clicks for details, it is confirmed.

As soon as a tx hits the blockchain, it is essentially locked, as you can't reverse a tx. Thats the whole point of the blockchain!

My brain hurts. This is much bigger than I ever imagined, unless I am wrong !!

Currently, it's the miners that bake the transactions into the blockchain for posterity, but the MNs could do it just as well, it's just a consensus based file-write, you don't need petaflops of compute power.

getting mostly 1.25 drk since 3 days per node. but sometimes also 1.5 or 1.75. Have some mn

I'm away on business and only get back tonight, I've got 4 nodes with zero payouts since last update... grrr... can't wait to get back.

BTW, I dont know if this has been addressed since I was without internet the better part of last week... but with InstantX, if the Masternodes are confirming the tx, then what is the roll of miners?

I mean, yeah, the regular blocks must still be mined for non InstatnX and keep the blockchain rolling, but with InstantX, we could hard-fork to a new algoryth that is stupid simple CPU friendly, have the nodes sign the the solution, broadcast to verify.... in essence we might not need miners at all.

Now that would be crazy good for the environment and the positive price feedback loop envisioned by Evan.

Masternodes are locking the tx. It still needs to be confirmed by blocks

You cant spend coins without confirmation.

In the video, Evan demonstrates them as confirmed. That is my confusion about it. Once a tx is broadcast, then it is essentially locked, and verified by miners, 6 to be statistically certain no attempt of a double-spend. I dont get it.
If I understand it correctly masternodes locks transaction and broadcast it to the network as confirmed and prevent from double-spend. It is not yet confirmed by mined blocks as it should be but network sees this locked tx as spendable (confirmed). Basically MN confirms that for you and lock it but network doesn't.

InstantX is a powerful thing. Can be very dangerous for DRK if someone could misuse it before it mature

It is easier to be an aggressive victim than to be a free man.

Having 3 people in control of >51% of the hashrate is very dangerous for DRK (and every other PoW currency) but nobody cares.

I'm done being polite about this, anyone who thinks PoW via centralised pools 'secures the network' is a fucking moron.

If that is the case, I seriously see that as an attack vector. I dont know, I'm no cryptographer.

A tx can only be confirmed when the block is solved, so I do see your reasoning. Its the "locking" part I dont get. Once a tx is boradcast and hits the blockchain, you can't roll back (loool, unless its Vericoin).

So if the MN ping each other to validate the same tx is being broadcast, anyone with a huge chunk of nodes can subvert InstantX. In this case, it is possible to perform a 51% attack.

I'm sure this is not the case, Evan is a smart cookie.

By dangerous I mean that someone could do a double-spend cos this approach (technology) has not been checked by time. But I am a great supporter of this and "knowing" Evan, everyting should be ok

The transaction lock is performed by 10 MNs selected randomly from the total. Your chances of subverting one of the MNs involved in the transaction are currently about 1 in 1200.  Grin

MNs are inherently orders of magnitude more tamper-proof then PoW.

I thing 51% attack will not work with instantX. We don't yet know where the attacks will come from cos this is something new. This is great and need to be checked painstakingly cos after 20-30 seconds coins can be sold.

Kind of freaky Darkcoin news  Shocked   ... dont know why, this reminded me of the movie Blade Runner.

http://www.coindesk.com/meet-tiny-bitcoin-wallet-lives-skin/

Quote
Martijn Wismeijer, also known as ‘Mr Bitcoin’, had two NFC (near-field communication) chips injected into the back of his hands during a biohacking event organised by Permanent Beta last week.

Speaking to CoinDesk, Wismeijer said he has so far experimented with storing litecoin, darkcoin, dogecoin and bitcoin on the tiny devices, which can hold up to 888 bytes of data each.
