Something like this: http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/30727/check-password-for-ethereum-wallet

Ethereum development is just taking too long. It's what now...Year and a half?

IPO ended 2nd September, so about 9 months.

Nope. Did you pre-buy ether points? What do you expect from your investment? Just curious.

I for one am perfectly happy that the fly by night investors sell of their Ether. Long holders will be amply rewarded.

From their webpage:

What was the Ether Sale?
In order to raise funds for development of Ethereum to the release of the genesis block and beyond, the Ethereum foundation conducted a sale of Ether to the public, during which anyone could buy Ether in exchange for Bitcoin at a rate of 1337 to 2000 ETH per BTC, with earlier purchasers getting better rates.

The sale lasted 42 days, starting on July 22nd and ending at 23:59 Zug time September 2, and collected a total of 31531 BTC, worth $18,439,086 at the time of the sale, in exchange for about 60102216 ETH.

They intend to release the first version without a GUI. You will have to use a command line windows instead. The network will also be run at a very slow throttled back rate to begin with. I don't know if it will be initially possible to trade it if it's first version is getting released half finished.

The first version might not be very popular even if some exchanges do start an Ethereum market. Why would anyone buy something half finished?

We'll see. If they can't get the show stopper bug fixed soon they might get the GUI up and running in time for launch.

There is no "escrow" for Ether since the Ether is tied to your Bitcoin private key and no one can guarantee transfer of a private key without copies etc.
