worth read On Ponzi’s, Equity Derivatives, and Ethereum http://www.wallstreettechnologist.com/2016/07/12/on-ponzis-equity-derivatives-and-ethereum/............Ethereum was a project funded with 18m USD of value mostly in BTC. After writing a whitepaper and creating a proof of concept prototype, they hired developers to write it. Most of them were loaned money and worked for free but were promised exorbitant 20% bonuses after the crowd-sale. They made a windfall after selling ETH before the blockchain was even in operation in what is called an initial coin offering or ICO to the public. Once the money was raised they patted themselves on the back, and all the developers who were promised pay in stock options (ETH) simultaneously breathed a sigh of relief and cheered.....................

Agree maybe we have to acceptt that the concept of DAO is still not feasible. I also understand the point of the DAO hacker. Using a programmed back door cannot be punished. We have also to consider that the flaw was known at least for some weeks.
I am not sure about that. If the hacker identifies himself, there could be some kind of law suit against him. using a programed back door is absolutely punishable in most jurisdictions. in addition his actions were contrary to the benefit of the DAO as whole and should not be allowed to stand. as far as the shorting of eth on exchanges (where the real money was made) not sure if that's regulated in so far as things like that go...so probably not punishable. is hf happening on 15th? Hacking back doors to get in systems is punishable but in this case it was a backdoor in a contract. So if you consider that the contract was created liked that then how one get punished to just use the contract as initially programmed. Interesting case. But if the hack is punishable than what about the punishment of a rollback which is against the system as a hole. My head is smoking..😊 The intention of the hacker is to still the money. That is the difference. It is an punishable offence. hmm are we so sure of that ? he/she could have taken all the ether in the doa. he/she wasnt stoped! he/she just stoped after 3.6 mill . if he/she was just after the money why not take all ? i really think that "taker " didnt believe it would be posible to take them so easy and on the way he/she got scruple. absolutely wrong, hacker intent was to steal...and most likely not by draining DAO as they knew they wouldn't be able to actually withdraw, but by causing panic and shorting ether on bitfinex. That could be the reason the hacker did not identify himself. Otherwise he will sent to prison for stealing $60 m.

Coincidence, I think not. selfjustice is how the system is designed isn't it. Miners ultimately choose whats in their best interest....its the cornerstone of having a distributed pow blockchain. And if they choose to mead out justice in the form of a HF than so be it. Those who don't like it can rent or buy mining equipment and hash another fork.

I wonder if the hacker decided to lock most of his coins in a smart contract(s) or escrow to pay the miners and those devs willing to support the original chain. He has nothing to lose anyway. A lot of fun guaranteed at the very least

BUY TIME...after a few days off and lots of thinking...im confident that any dumps that happen now , or during the refund DAO period, will be easily absorbed by the market. ETH has access to some really deep pockets ETH is undervalued right now and as the price drops the buy support increases...after hardfork i bet anyone that ETH will defo see 20k+BTC buy support again...soon. I also very sure okcoin and more will be joining us soon ( before Devcon2 ) as ETH Chinese community has grown alot recently. http://ethfans.org/https://etherscan.io/charts/hashrate ... WOW https://etherscan.io/charts/address ....WOW Bit risky but If you miss cheap ETH , buy a bit o DAO and then change to ETH after fork at 100dao for 1eth GD LUCK PEEPS

IDEA A new ETH ONLY EXCHANGE , allowing users to trade their $, £, Euros, for ETH, REP(Augur),SLK(Slockits coin, i made name up btw) PLT (Plutus) maybe even SMG(Samsung) UBU(Ubuntu) etc. Lets do it Some people may say why?, id say as time passes do we really want to keep buying BTC and then ETH,then GAS or REP etc, we lose money in transaction fess, changing coins fees...we could eliminate the baggage, save money and time, do it direct , fiat for ETH or GAS and Dapp Tokens all from one exchange. This gives buyers more coin and ETH more overall market value as the fiat is going directly into the ETH ecosystem. A very good step in the right direction. Im extremly impressed, give this a few months and hopefully Fiat gateways will be there too. https://etherdelta.github.io/#EtherDelta is a decentralized trading platform for Ethereum tokens. https://www.reddit.com/r/ethereum/comments/4sk5l3/where_did_this_come_from_etherdelta_and_is_it_safe/Cant wait till we go to Metropolis

Who cares anyway?
Today EXP passed ETH in mining profitability.
Where can we find this information? Is there a website for this? For instance https://www.whattomine.com/coinsOr check the pools and see what people are beeing payed at diff speeds. Today ETH is on top again, but thats barely. The other ethash coins are worth checking out. EXPand, SHIFT, KRypton and SOIL. Thank you. I think ETH is finally stable. It might be a good time to start observing it again. It is understandable that people are scared in buy ETH at this time. But in coming weeks I think this will be a good buy and people will have more confidence.

I will support the hard fork with my GPU mining power. Although it is small hashing rate, it is my contribution to the network.

Wow. That article basically says that the Ethereum Foundation is the scum of the Earth and is out there only to profit out of the naivety of the people. In all honesty I find that hard to believe. I think Vitalik is really serious in creating some sort of legacy in crypto. But as we have slowly realized it might not be so.
