The west coast is where a lot of the money is here in the US and they have not even gotten up as yet to see what is happening. Panic is sure to continue...

The panic will last for a few months, and the price could drop further. But afterwards, the price will be higher again.

Unholy crap Batman! The sky is falling! Should we panic too? I love to watch calamity like this don't you? Those whom wanted a low price to get in cant say they didn't get a chance. Glad I don't have to work today so I can watch. So much better than Reality TV. Of course I may not have any electricity very much longer as I am now broke. Does anyone know where the soup line is in Cincinnati? I do have some gently used crypto for sale if any one is interested but I wont hold my breath for that...

What do you mean by "gently used crypto". Is that just mined, not tainted during the usage?

The ether is very well kept against the background of the bitcoin drop, I expected the price to come through and unfortunately bought a few ether tokens, I hope there will be an opportunity for a good purchase

Any predictions for ETH bottom price? I've put stop losses orders at $700.

*PS. no offence to Korean (proven FUD) or Indian (news not yet officially confirmed) traders, but these are not the biggest markets and the current crash is a major one. So reason for the red candles should be sought somewhere else.

Even much hard to predict what is going on at the moment but I will do agree with you $700 realistic approach it has pretty low chance to fell down at that level. But it's part of this game of profit now big whales pushing the weak hands from next big rise.

Damn! This hasn't been any small dip, makes you almost freak out just looking at the market in general, can't really say which of the coins had the most hit, but i think eth has done a great job holding very strong inspite of the pressure so far but who knows the battle has been won yet, it is a total chaos in the crypto land Embarrassed

On Tues Feb 6th we get to watch the US Congress or Senate Banking Committee discuss cryptocurrencies, nobody wants the risk going into that meeting with a bunch of Jamie Dimons and Warren Buffets,  it is now
Obviously clear how sad it is that the few elites control the majority of Americans and think they know best for the American people and all they have done is export our jobs and screw us over with high consumer unfair interest rates. How unfair was it that Americans were not allowed to invest just a tiny bit in ICOS I mean what about a $250 max cap some $250 icos yielded like $7000. We only need a fraud team to pursue fraud globally, like a SEAL team that chases the fraudsters, leave everything else alone....did the SEC protect you from Lehman? So it's their job to protect your $250 in an ico, come on. Make a few quick rules and be done with it how hard can it be but make them fair we need prosperity for the masses not prosperity for the elites to hold on to their depleting power as decentralization takes off but they have ways to slow it down as we saw this week, funny how crypto exposes the entities that are the problem so quickly...

When does ethereum switch to POS?

Realistically the switch to POS will be May 2019 but nobody really knows but it won't be this year.

Yep, eth is totally surprising, withstanding the bloodbath.  It is starting to show its independence from btc.  When btc was surging inprices, almost all the altcoins went up too while eth just remained in the $300-$400 level.  When eth's time came it showed a solid rise to $1,200 level.  And now it's holding its ground.

Back in days, we used to have yellow paper ha.
Good old classic for rewinding back into history to see how it was like when ETH was doing its ICO.

But because of bitcoin's downtrend, we fell from $1200 to $900 but it's nice to see that we haven't fallen below .1 BTC this time

While it is not entirely clear how the Eth price will behave when going to POS. On the one hand, it is no longer needed for miners; on the other hand, a substantial amount is required to participate in POS.

The ETH just dropped less than 30% from the peak. I think it is not very worrying.
