There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

Hmm - some ok, some not. That's a bit odd, no? Are those with the issue running other OS's, ie, Win XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, or any of the various Linux flavors? There should be something common.

Hmm - some ok, some not. That's a bit odd, no?

I only noticed it after i restarted my wallet. Maybe others can confirm if it shows up if they restart the client?

Another thing...idk if it matters or would make a difference... with my wallet, I did NOT use the bootstrap. Are others that used it still getting the message?

I think, usually doesn't this error happen mostly when trying to sync the blockchain and it is not fully updated to the last block or internet connection problems? Usually the message disappears once the blockchain is downloaded. Maybe there is a bad node that it is connecting to and keeps trying to use it?

Would running a .conf configuration file with addnodes fix this? Does anyone here have a .conf file set up with addnodes that is, or is not, getting this warning?

I have a .conf file with these 2 addnodes:
addnode=seed.mintcoin.cc
addnode=mintseed.mintcoinfund.org

And I DID use the bootstrap.dat file. I have also restarted the wallet a few times now, and it is still functioning ok.

 RE: "WARNING: Checkpoint is too old....."

Did some digging on Peercointalk.org about the message. I found this post interesting: http://www.peercointalk.org/index.php?topic=1946.msg15480#msg15480

Note: This is the Peercoin Source Code where it talks about that message on line 2484
https://github.com/ppcoin/ppcoin/blob/master/src/main.cpp#L2484

Maybe this will help Roboguy figure it out.

Do you get the "WARNING: Checkpoint is too old..." message?

It may be that all that needs to happen is get the checkpoints updated the message will go away. In this specific case, I think the warning shows up because it past the certain amount of time since the last checkpoint. Not really a big deal, but just looks scary on the wallet  Roll Eyes
