The sanctions (asset freeze/travel restriction) geared towards a few individuals is just a charade.
The real sanction would be to sever purchase of oil/gas from Russia, which of course would be financially detrimental to EU economies also.
So, its business as usual..

How Ripple Rips you: "The founders of Ripple Labs created 100 billion XRP at Ripple's inception. No more can be created according to the rules of the Ripple protocol. Of the 100 billion created, 20 billion XRP were retained by the creators, seeders, venture capital companies and other founders. The remaining 80 billion were given to Ripple Labs. Ripple Labs intends to distribute and sell 55 of that 80 billion XRP to users and strategic partners. Ripple Labs also had a giveaway of under 200 million XRP (0.002% of all XRP) via World Community Grid that was later discontinued.[29] Ripple Labs will retain the remaining 25 billion"

Best outcome:
Putin decides he has gotten maximum yield out of this rattling of arms and rests satisfied that Russia’s position has been solidified, Germans still buy his natural gas and the world decides that the warmongering is hurting economy more than can be gained by keeping the pressure on Putin up.

Worst outcome: Right wing populists across Europe sees this as a chance to revive cold war funding of flailing European industries while getting a boost to their protectionist world view. Meanwhile more balanced views seeking compromises get overruled by NATO and allied attempting to live up to US demands of unconditional backing.

Defense stock indexes soar,  and everybody instantly stops thinking about austerity and recession.
I Crimea some fuck up throws a grenade into a public protest and things get worse by the hour.

I didn't seen anything about additional referendum in this article.

But the Constitution should be updated to include the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol, and that would require an authorization from the senate. New subjects of federation should be listed in $3:65.

Visit Russia before Russia visits you.

lol... Every day Russia exports Crude or refined products totaling 8.3 million barrels to its enemies (worth $884 million per day, or $322 billion per year).

Also it exports natural gas totaling 203.2 billion cubic meters (to Europe alone), worth some $81.3 billion.

http://www.lngworldnews.com/gazprom-export-sets-record-in-2013-gas-deliveries/

Gas + Oil = 400 billion USD / Yr.

This is how you financially drain your enemies.
Looking good for Russia eh?

@Balthazar : "Hallaryous"  Grin

Probably I should migrate to this thread. Just posted a news digest on the Ukraine thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=366048.msg5779076#msg5779076 but most of it pertains Crimea.

http://rt.com/news/crimea-shooting-military-center-646/

Quote
Two people – a self-defense member and a Ukrainian soldier – were killed after snipers opened fire from a partially inhabited building near a military research center in Simferopol. One sniper was reportedly detained, another is on the run.

...

Crimean Prime Minister Sergey Aksyonov told Russia’s Channel One that this attack is reminiscent of the Maidan sniper shootings.

“At the moment two people are dead as a result of a provocation, a sabotage. The situation allows me to conclude that the same techniques that were used at Maidan are being used now because most likely one attacker fired at both sides – one Ukrainian serviceman and one man from the self-defense forces of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea were killed.”

“The location of the sniper was identified,” he added. And news has emerged from the Crimean interior ministry that the sniper has been identified as a 17-yar-old citizen of Lvov.

Russian President and British Prime Minister are discussing a peaceful resolution to the situation, where Russia would stop acknowledging Crimea's secession from Ukraine in exchange for Britain stopping acknowledging the secession of US. The US Senate will be disbanded forthwith and all state heads will report directly to the Crown.

LOL! That's actually not only America doesn't recognize the Referendum but also Europe

Europe will do whatever the US tells it to do.
