The Crimean government has given ultimatum to all its state employees. They should abandon Ukrainian citizenship before April 17, or lose their jobs. Anyone holding the Ukrainian passports after April 17 will be considered as foreign nationals.

Sounds reasonable. To hold any government job in any country (and in case of my other countries, to hold any job at all) you need to be a citizen of said country, or have a work permit, for non-government jobs. Also, wasn't there some talk that all Crimeans automatically get Russian citizenship, unless they explicitly ask to not get one? |

This means that government workers should not reject a new citizenship, otherwise they will be fired. |

Of course it makes no problem when you are working for proprietary company. But if you wish to work for a government then you have to be a citizen... And sometimes the double citizenship isn't allowed... E.g. if you have an access to "Top Secret" labeled documents. For example, the maximum level of access also means that you are prohibited from leaving the country for any reason. |

State-owned company is much better in terms of stability. USSR de facto used a state capitalism * system, as a result working for state or government owned companies still provides you some benefits. --- * That's why the most of "true" marxists-leninists were in opposition to USSR. |

Most of the ethnic Ukrainians and ethnic Russians living in Crimea already have Russian citizenship. But none of the Muslims have it. So there is going to be some problems.

That means that large number of soldiers from Central Ukraine (esp. Kiev) have also decided to dump their Ukrainian passports. Not a good sign for Tymoshenko and her allies. |
