Who are ruling by the Crimea?

Vladimir Konstantinov, speaker of the Supreme Council;

Position and actions of the speaker of the Crimean parliament for many in the autonomy and beyond have become a real revelation: in the previous four years Konstantinov didn't disclose his real political ambitions, staying in the shade of the Council of Ministers of Crimea.

As it turned out, Konstantinov was just waited for an opportunity to rectify the injustice ( formally autonomous republic is a parliamentary, so now parliament again plays the "first violin " in local politics). The crisis, in fact, began with the session of the Parliament of autonomy. This session made two decisions:

  • dismission of the government;
  • announcement of a referendum on the status of the peninsula.

Sergei Aksenov, Prime Minister;

Leader of a small party named "Russian unity" suddenly famous throughout the world. Prior to the beginning of the Crimean crisis, this political force had to its credit , only three out of a hundred seats in the SC of Crimea , as well as an extensive network of party cells throughout the peninsula. The "Russian Unity" was actually a satellite of the Ukrainian ruling party - the Party of Regions.

In such circumstances, Sergey Aksenov could only dream about the major position in the government of Crimea. His biography is not conducive to obtaining high positions: according to People's Deputy of Ukraine, acting deputy head of the presidential administration Andriy Senchenko, Aksenov in the 90s was associated with the underworld. But dreams tend to come true sometimes.

Refat Chubarov, Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, member of the Supreme Council

Crimean Tatars during the crisis were the owners of the "golden share". Majlis (representative body) of the Crimean Tatar people once and bluntly declared a support of the preservation of the Crimea as part of Ukraine and urged residents to boycott the upcoming referendum.

Mustafa Cemil, MP, former head of the Majlis

If Refat Chubarov is head and chief negotiator Majlis at the national level, the interests of the Crimean Tatars in the international arena is Mustafa Cemil. Paradoxically, it was he who was the only Ukrainian politician, with whom Vladimir Putin has communicated during the crisis in Crimea.

Anatoly Mogilev, former Prime Minister of Crimea, leader of the Republican Party of Regions organization

Until the beginning of the Crimean crisis native of Donetsk Makeevki Anatoly Mogilev virtually unchallenged rule autonomy. He led the Crimean Council of Ministers and national organization Party of Regions, which had an overwhelming majority of seats in the local parliament. Furthermore, Mogilev, former head of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine, had a serious impact on the Crimean security forces.

Rustam Temirgaliev, Deputy Prime Minister

Main speaker and negotiator of the new government, many people mistakenly believe that he's a Crimean Tatar. Actually Rustam Temirgaliev is Kazan Tatar and has no relation to the Mejlis. That doesn't prevent him from trying to influence on the position of the representative body of the Crimean Tatars.

His assets includes one of the largest media holding in the Crimea, combining "Trans-M-Radio" radio, "e-Crimea"information agency and the "Peninsula" newspaper. In recent years this media empire worked for the Party of Regions. Now the media became the mouthpiece of the new government.

Andrei Senchenko, MP, Acting Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine

One of the main Ukrainian line supporters in the Crimeanow spends  most of his time in the Kiev. Andrei Senchenko is a large Crimean businessman and head of the Republican Party organization "Fatherland" Yulia Tymoshenko. Immediately after the victory of the Maidan, he and his colleagues hoped to take power in the Crimea in their hands, but failed.

Sergei Kunitsyn, Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in Crimea

Unlike Andrei Senchenko, Sergey Kunitsyn often appears on the peninsula, but his comings didn't advertised especially. He was the Prime Minister of autonomy twice and, by his own admission, is won't averse to enter the same river for the third time.

Dmitry Firtash, a principal owner of Group DF

In the conspiracy theories has been appeared Ukrainian press. It's the theories implicating Firtash to the Crimean crisis. Many of the acting figures in the crisis somehow related to the chemical magnate. In particular, according to some sources, a "Russian unity" party it's a project of this businessman.

Alexander Vitko, a commander of Russian Black Sea Fleet, Vice Admiral

Russian authorities strongly deny the role of the Black Sea Fleet in the Crimean crisis. Russia's permanent representative to the UN Security Council, Vitaly Churkin, assured that the BSF does not interfere with the preparation and holding of the referendum on the status of the peninsula. The Russian diplomat didn't tricked us, but never told the whole truth. In fact, the Black Sea Fleet management is actively involved in the Crimean events. Thus, the commander of the Black Sea Fleet participated in negotiations with the headquarters of the Naval Forces of Ukraine, the contents of which, however, remained unknown.

Quote
Mothers of many Crimean soldiers, who were drafted into the Ukrainian army when their homeland was part of Ukraine, are having their worst nightmare – that their sons would be seen as enemies at home or even never come back.

As Crimea became a part of Russia, these Crimean soldiers drafted into the Ukrainian army, became “trapped” in another country. Mothers can now only speak to them by phone from time to time, RT has learnt.

“I tell him, ‘Hello, son, I love you’. That is all I can tell him,” Susannah, a mother of a Crimean soldier serving in Ukraine, told RT.

Some officers ask now who comes from Crimea, they put down their last names but don’t explain why,” she adds.

The women still don’t know whether Kiev will allow their sons to see their homeland. The soldiers, in their turn, don’t look optimistic either.

My son and his friends think that they won’t return home,” says Elena, a mother of an 18-year old Crimean soldier, “I try to tell him to stay calm, that Ukraine, Russia, and the Crimean government will solve this and you will be back home, anything to keep him calm.”

The public uprising in Crimea culminated in a referendum, in which an overwhelming majority of over 96 percent voted in favor of reunification with Russia. On March 21, Russia finalized the legal process of taking Crimea and the city of Sevastopol under its sovereignty.

Paraphrasing a line from a Dire Straits song, at least you'll not get a bullet from the NATO peace-keeping force.
