Crimea is to become special economic zone:
http://rt.com/business/crimea-zone-tax-break-345/

Also, the salaries and pensions will be increased to the average level of RF.

Funnily, Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a Twitter note of protest against Medvedev visiting the Crimea, which is a federal Republic within Russian Federation.

http://www.forbes.ru/news/253379-mid-ukrainy-vyrazil-protest-iz-za-priezda-medvedeva-v-krym
https://twitter.com/MFA_Ukraine

The comments, people post to that news can be described as amused. Smiley

One not so amused comment here, which I will translate below, and which answers why Crimea, after 60 years, still wanted to reunite with Russia.

And who in the 90s came in full busses to Crimea to teach Crimeans how to correctly love Ukraine? Who refused to accept graduates of Crimean schools into Universities of Central and Western Ukraine? Wasn't it Timoshenko, who screamed: "I'll put Sevastopol on its knees"? Wasn't it Ukrainian powers that took bribes for the sell off of the Nikitin Botanical Garden? Weren't that Ukrainian leaders who imposed "heroes" who served to fascist regime (translator: of WWII), while hounding down true heroes? And who forcefully rewrote the anthem of Sevastopol (translator: see this post)? Wasn't it Rada that tried to steal their language from the Crimeans? So who, after all, behaved themselves as occupants in Crimea?

Wow... that was quick. So the Crimeans woke up one day and find that their salaries have suddenly jumped by 500%.

So it'll be only a gradual rise, and may take up to 2 years time.  Grin

Medvedev mentioned that pension indexation should be complete within the next three months. Salaries will take longer.

They are gradually shifting the government websites from .ua to .ru. Recently the Crimean Statistics Department shifted its website from .ua domain to Russian domain.
