HEY!!

The Blocks Factory payouts is screwed up.

My payout never appeared in my wallet.  I checked and the transaction ID is 0, and it links to the IPC block explorer.

You have the right address - both IPC and GUN wallets start with a "G" I notice.

Oh, darn, I did a rookie move??!?!??

Not!!!

Yes, I created a new address in the GUN wallet, and copy/pasted it straight into the profile page for the GUN pool.

Set the auto payout and see for yourself.   Wink

So how does asics, which lower the value of this coin, and take the mining ability away from the community that would use the coin, make the coin more secure?

Well, mathematically, you need hashrate for depth and power of security. For instance, I could take over your entire coin myself, because it's lacking hashrate. Right now. I could invite some people I know over, and we'd own the coin. Your whole foundation would have to give in to our demands, or start from scratch. Of course I wouldn't, I'm just playing out a hypothetical. The primary reason you haven't seen such an attack is you're low on the radar, which is good.

Having said that, I like your thinking, but from a broad perspective you're not solving the problem. You're wanting to rely on a group of people who, largely, don't trust the internet, much less will get involved in using their personal systems to run software that they don't understand, to burn up their electricity and, in the long run, wear out their systems, to support a transaction system that may or may not take off.

The reason coins lose values with ASIC mining isn't the ASIC, it's the lack of tangible value for the coin. Take a look at NLG, while it was scrypt it had epic tangible value. It was used during the World Cup. It's used to buy food and other goods. They've recently switched some technical details a few times to help manage the growth, and they're still going strong. It's tangible. Yours is also tangible, but not nearly as much, and until you have market share it's only going to weaken.

I think it's good you've taken a proactive measure looking for a longterm solution. I simply disagree with it based on my experience in this industry, analyzing coin ideas, execution, etc. I think, at this point, the most important aspect is getting the transaction system to work flawless from a merchant/user standpoint, setting up all the required endpoints and details, while simultaneously getting stores to accept it. NLG has done a good job. PotCoin had a good start in this as well, getting their own 'ATM' machines, and are deployed in a group of merchant shops.

I say that not knowing what your merchant distribution is, I'm just saying what has to happen within a good timeframe.

I get that you, looking at this strictly as just another crypto, wouldn't have the perspective to understand the dynamics around guncoin, this is why I gave you mine.  And I hope you get it.

You shouldn't presume too much. If you knew me, you'd know that I have more perspective than you probably realize. I'm also no stranger to the firearms crowd. Part of why I've been eyeing this from day 1 is because I liked the idea, and the other part is  that it's just one of hundreds that I keep an eye on and analyze.

And of course, I wish you the best. You seem to have made a functional switchover which is good. I'm glad this has been a peacable discussion, you have been able to answer the questions amicably and that's very appreciated.

Well, we appreciate your inputs/feedback and have no reason to take shots at you (no pun intended).  I understand what you are saying, but think the chance of a takeover was just as likely before with the anti-gun lobby funding an ASIC farm to hijack things.  That is another one of the reasons for the change over. The other of course, is getting a lot of smaller miners into to the mining as well - quantity in this case is viewed as better for use to prevent something like that.  I am seeing 4-5 miners in one pool right now mining with less than 10KH/s - just a laptop or desktop and getting coins.  That would never have happened before.  We fully expect our hash rate to slowly rise as we start promoting things.  FTC is running at over 20 MH/s in just one pool after they switched last Friday.  Again thanks for your suggestions, we will be watching the hashrate moving forward for sure.....

Ok. I haven't found a block solo. Will keep this running overnight, but just in case, what are all the GUN pools available?

Well, I see quite a few laptops in http://gun.theblocksfactory.com running and that pool is finding about 75% of the blocks it appears.  The other pool needed to do some software upgrade first and should be up soon.  They are always listed on the first post of this thread or the main website....

Looks like guncoin is quickly increasing hashrate..

It's nearly 1/4 of Phoenixcoin, the neoscrypt pioneer..

It's about 4x Imperial.

And Feathercoin is just crushing with almost 400 mh/s.  WOW, I don't see that hashrate happening anytime soon!!  lol

Well, some were mining IPC as practice for mining GUN and have since switched over.  All said and done, I am pleased with the switchover it went well.

Do I just replace the old wallet with the new one? Will my address still work? In other words I can still have the pool send to my old addresses?

1) Backup your old wallet to a separate location.

2) Download the new one from the website.

3) Once it loads and opens - close it and overwrite the wallet.dat file it just created, with your back up one.

4) Open the wallet again - and give it time to sync and acquire the block chain.  As it does this, your old coins should appear in the new wallet all your old addresses are unchanged.

All I did was close the old wallet, make a rar of the complete folder with wallet and blockchain, and open the new wallet.  It was fine and synced, and took literally 15 seconds. (I kept the backup just in case though!!)

Been solo and pool mining to it for the past 36 hours with no issues, so there's a good chance that if people get lazy they will be fine.

Yup. Like I said, there's people out there still with large GPU farms, and despite the new algo, they could still take things over. I know some individuals with 4+ GH (scrypt) of gpu's, and they're just the small whales.

Keep up the good work guys. Still keeping an eye on this.

It doesn't matter what the algo is, there's always someone that can afford more hardware than you can..

But a $2,000 investment into asics used with a crappy laptop, could have been enough for a detractor to crush gun staying on Scrypt.  With Neoscrypt, a $2,000 investment by a detractor into GPU's right now, would put them at 15 to 20% of the current hash rate and require a lot more computer knowledge.  Detractors are a much larger reason for the switch, than the whales, the whales just aren't interested because of the profitability.

Oh, and FYI, neoscrypt is roughly 1/8th the hashrate of scrypt from the same GPU, so a 4gh scrypt farm would be more like a .5gh neo farm.  Still enough to crush most neoscrypt coins at this point, but definitely an apples/oranges reference when it comes to hashrate.

Yes, I am willing to bet that it is someone who posted a buy instead of a sell based on the numbers.  It is rare to see a buy come in 21 satoshi above the last buy.  Even though we are confident we will see higher prices as word gets out on our switchover, for those that want to covert a few thousand, this is your chance for sure......

That buy offer has been up for at least 18 hours, and over 30k have already been purchased, it's not a mistake..

Someone is really convinced this is going somewhere, and I don't see a lot of peeps selling.

Yes, the fact that we have a big buyer out there is a good thing - happy to see it.  The fact no one is selling for the most part in comparable numbers is actually equally satisfying that GUN owners are confident prices will go higher - which I agree with.  As stated  before, we will not be resting on our laurels.  While there are still some interesting features that we may want to add to GUN in the future - we are content to sit on our coin design as is for at least a few months and see what else new shows up.  Like we have said before, we like be on the leading edge of things, just not the bleeding edge.

That being said, with a stable coin design that makes us attractive to a wider audience, we are moving forward with a few things and need any help or support we can get from the community.....

1) While we are happy with the exchanges that we are on, getting on exchanges with more volume is where we need to be.  I can not do this by myself no matter how hard I try.  To get on the bigger exchanges; Bittrex, Cryptsy, C-CEX, BTER, etc,  requires an active community and solid increasing volume on existing exchanges.  Everyone can help with this in staying active in this forum and buying and selling a little each week on our current exchanges.  Additionally, my asking does not make it happen - email these big exchanges - ask for GUN - the more the better - create the demand.  If they think there is no demand, they will not list us.

2) We have one active pool so far, and another upgrading to support us.  I am in contact with a P2Pool operator who is the process of creating one for GUN also.  The more miners we have, the stronger our coin becomes and the more secure it becomes.  With our current coin design, you can literally, turn on your laptop and let it run over night, not even all day, and have GUN in your wallet after the 120 confirmations.  How easy can it be. Again, more pools, more miners is a good thing for GUN and presents an active and stable environment to the bigger exchanges and potential users.

3) We need to start using the Guncoinads.com site.  It is FREE - and if filled with things to buy, trade or sell, it will be a magnet on the seach engines to firearms enthusiasts who never have enough ad sites to shop or sell on.  You will see our new stickers advertised and sold there as well as some patches we are designing and few other things we will kee to ourselves as a surprise.  Advertise your FFL, gunsmithing or any services your have or whatever you want to buy or sell for FREE.

4) We are reviewing other type of sites comparable to Guncoinads.com to create and eventually create a Guncoin network of sites, that will draw in traffic from non-crypto users and get them introduced to Guncoin. Your ideas here are always appreciated.

5) Technologically speaking GUN will never be done.  We have made a giant step forward with the Neoscrypt fork we think.  We have listened to your  feedback in the past and noted a lot of interesting ideas.  Some are very costly to implement or represent more risk that we are willing to accept at this time.  We are going to continually access the coin development opportunities and see what shows up over the next few months.  Additionally, we request that users, send up any ideas or bugs that need to be addressed to be added to our list.

6) More publicity.  We have someone working with us to help promote GUN in ezines, youtube, facebook, twitter, forums, etc.  It costs $, but the reach is good - this is ongoing.  Any chance you get to write something positive about Guncoin in forums or where ever, please do so and make sure you put a link to our main website.

So now that I think we have finished phase 1 of moving this train out of the station and down the track more or less, it is time to move forward with phase 2 that you saw part of above.....  Let's roll !!!!

Anyone familiar with the IFLS (I Fucking Love Science)?  Well, I'm in the IFLW (I Fucking Love Windows) club!!

I typed out a nice long response to that, adding that I'm looking into Point of Sale systems (which are goddamn expensive) to get Guncoin out into the real world and make it a permanent part of history, (even if it's just a footnote) and BLUESCREEN!!!  I knew Bill Gates was ultralib, but damn...
