If a dev plans to launch a coin to be a real player in economic markets, the least they can do is compile the client for linux and windows.  Since they did not, we can only speculate they are some fly-by-night hackjob crew.

Cross platform is important, and not having it at launch (or even hours after launch) is a huge problem.  The devs have been nearly silent on launchday which is not a good sign.

I've yet to see anyone do this right...  Good points.  In my eyes, Mac support is a must as well at launch.

There is a compiled client for Windows and Source Code for you to compile in Linux.

Only thing missing is the Mac Client. But in my opinion these users cant suffer enough for their poor choice  Wink

I've been watching this launch for the last couple of days and mining it - well, trying to mine it - from launch. There are a few things I'd say are 'not a good sign' here:

First, apparently in the hours and minutes running up to the launch of their shiny new cryptocurrency, the devs were going through safety lectures and putting on coveralls so they could climb into a zero g (misnomer, actually, it's not zero-g, it's freefall) simulation/parabolic flight. So you can pretty much forget coverage for any sort of untoward event that might happen in the race up to the launch.

Second, the actual launch (mining of the first block?) is apparently triggered by someone on the team during the flight. Did you know they call these things vomit comets? Brilliant idea.

Third - don't know about you, but I was trying connect my modest ~5 Mh to one of the launch pools. Said launch pool couldn't find a block for nearly an hour, while someone (dunno who, seemingly not the other pools) was apparently finding plenty of blocks, thank you very much. Apparently the pools had to regenerate addresses and reconnect to stratum, etc. to finally get everything to fly.

Fourth, when the devs (hate calling them that, but okay) finally do make an appearance they blame the pool operators, saying they can't be bothered to 'test' them, and anyway it's just like a 'gold rush' so relax, there are plenty of blocks coming up. Well, yeah, now that the difficulty is at {insert higher difficulty here}

I'm still mining this (p2pool, getting about 20 coins every 10 minutes last time I looked), because there isn't much else to play with tonight. Yeah, I'm a noob. But it looks to me like this team forgot that they needed to be PRESENT for their launch, and not flopping around exchanging high-fives with their Macau-based investor in a plane over Texas.

Why aren't they around now? - They're at SXSW, fer chrissakes. Partying their faces off. Probably leaving paper wallets full of Octocoins in the urinals at Stubbs.

That reminds me, I'm hungry.

Block Explorer should be up tonight along with GitHub (making a few language tweaks), additional info/links, and updates to the website.

FusionHash has added a new dedicated stratum server to help spread the load and they will be adding 2 additional servers tomorrow.

So far, we have chewed through about 15% of the blocks containing 888 OctoCoins and these big blocks will only last another 6-7 days. After that, the block reward drops down to 88 OctoCoins per block with a 1/8 chance of hitting a bonus block for the following 88 days.

Finally done with this scamcoin.

Thank God - you are the whiniest bastard I've ever seen. Seriously - everywhere I go you're crying about something new. If you aren't bitching about your deposits taking too long at an OPEN BETA exchange and filling up the chat box with your endless bitching you're whining about how you aren't getting enough coins at some pool that is "trying to scam you." You've complained about both exchanges that posted in the thread that have added 888 - you really want Cryptsy to have a complete monopoly on altcoin exchanges? You represent everything that is wrong with the crypto community. You are childish, impatient, and not very bright - there is a reason it's taking so long for serious money to get involved in cryptocurrency and that reason is people like you. I'm not kidding I've talked to 3 different people today about 888 and all 3 of them mentioned "that sammy guy." "Have you seen this sammy guy? What an idiot!" Talk about pathetic man - please get a new hobby. Nobody likes you and nobody cares what you have to say any more. Either shut the hell up or make like a Takeicoin and re-brand yourself - if you don't have anything to contribute what's the point? You have nothing better to do with your time? Why are you here?

I started again one hour ago and the pool says no shares to account. 3 blocks have been found since I started.
my hashrate is around 750kh
EDIT: now it's 6 blocks and still nothing
