I am also concerned about Mumbai. Across the state of Maharashtra, the new COVID 19 infections are on the rise. As we have seen in PSL, it is not easy to manage so many different teams and franchises. Setting up bio-secure bubbles can be a challenge. All it takes is a single breach, for multiple people to get infected. Crowd is not allowed and therefore I don't understand why they need to schedule matches in big cities such as Mumbai.

As compared to Maharashtra other states are not reporting so many cases. Out of the 17k cases reported yesterday Maharashtra has contributed more than 50 percent. Yet, BCCI wants to organise in Mumbai because of Ambani's influence. Bio bubble only works when the rules are followed if they are not then PSL like situation can arise.

Yesterday there were a total of 17,596 new cases and 102 new deaths being reported. Out of this, Maharashtra accounted for 9,866 new cases (56%) and 45 new deaths (44%). At this point, it will be foolish to schedule any matches in that state. I am not sure whether Ambani had any influence in this decision or not, but BCCI must have taken the other franchises in to account as well. More then the absolute number, I am more worried about some of the new strains of the virus, that have been discovered in Maharashtra.

If cases are increasing like this then BCCI may change the venue for sure because they are more towards conducting the IPL even in the middle of pandemic last year so they may not hold back from anything. Anyone knows about the spectators are allowed for this season or not?

There was a statement from the BCCI earlier this week: https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/trends/sports-trends/ipl-2021-no-spectators-no-gate-revenue-this-time-too-but-experts-not-worried-about-sponsorship-deals-6623711.htmlOnce again, the Indian Premier League (IPL) will witness empty stadiums and there will be no crowd- cheering. The 14th edition of the IPL, too, will be played behind closed doors -- at least in the initial phase of the tournament, the IPL governing council said on March 7. They may allow the spectators at a later stage, if the situation improves. But I don't think that it will happen. Cases are once again rising, not only in India but also around the world. Brazil is having a similar demographic, and they are witnessing huge increase in new cases. Even in India, cases are rising in some of the states. For me, it doesn't matter much. I don't really care whether the crowd is there or not. But the TV channels need to stop their automated crowd setting during the broadcast.

Taking in account the rise of covid cases, different plans were made. This time surely people will be allowed to watch the game, because BCCI felt the difference of playing in an empty ground and with full crowd.

Are the tickets being sold for real people to watch these games in the ground? I believe that the cases are actually increasing and while practising caution, they might not allow people or even if they do, there will be one seat right, left, up and down be left out for each person who will sit there. I believe that the costs are not going to be any lower if that's gonna happen. It's true that these games do miss the cheer and the crowd, but everybody's health can't be put at stake for any sports TBH. And yeah, that automated crowd system is a shitty mess honestly, even I hate it while watching it that way, then how the players would have felt!

^^ I hope they don't. Empty stands looks bad but there should be no spectators in any hot zones, especially Mumbai.
Mumbai getting fair amount of IPL games this season despite their covid problem, only shows that how powerful Mumbai Cricket Association is IRL. On the other hand we have state board like Hyderabad, who like to mess things up and then cry.

Wait, There are no matches in Hyderabad? Sad. I was planing to go this year if there was. How did they mess it up? Hyd Covid situation has gotten a lot better now and according to a few surveys, about 50% of the population have developed antibodies for COVID apparently. The sample size was very small though(2000). So, it cannot take it as facts for all over hyderabad.

Its looks like Hyderabad cricket association failed to approved their last year earning and mainly expenditure. Last season was dud because covid but all boards were compensated by the BCCI (players salary), so its a big mistake from the Hyderabad management. Haunebu posted this link above.

Maybe due to the influence from the Mumbai Cricket Association, or maybe due to the influence of Nita Ambani who own Mumbai Indians. Ideally I would have liked the IPL restricted to just one city. What is the point in conducting the tournaments across so many cities, when the crowd is not allowed? Why can't they stage all the matches in juts one city, may be Bengaluru, Chennai or even Lucknow, where the number of cases are low? These cities do have multiple stadiums, so it should not be an issue.

In case they were to stage all games in one state then it could have been Gujrat without any doubt, only because of new Motera stadium (Modi Stadium). It can even hold double header on weekend easily and i think they do have fair amount of good stadiums as well.

BCCI governing body needs to reconsider their decision but, there is so much politics involved in Indian cricket that the board members might be helpless. I think they want to show the world that they are capable to conduct the tournament all around India in this pandemic situation. Another reason might be the vaccine, but there are news report which confirms people are still getting COVID19 after completing the vaccination.

Apart from the Motera stadium, there are dozens of international standard stadiums in Gujarat where the matches could be conducted (obviously we need 4 at the most). There is the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium at Ahmedabad which is located in the same city as the Motera Stadium. The IPCL Sports Complex Ground in Baroda has also hosted international matches, but it is located some 100 km away from the Motera stadium.

But government is not imposing any lockdown like what we had in the initia stage of spread which means the cases are going to rise continuously. I do agree with that empty stadium because atleast everyone can watch the IPL on AIR instead of completely missing out.

There are many conflicting reports, some had adverse affect when they had the vaccine and went into comma and it is a truth that even with vaccination you will be infected but the doubt everyone in the medical fraternity is having is whether the vaccines are successful against the different strains of virus that are seeing around the world and the virus is mutating faster than expected. I am yet to get vaccination as i am not sure whether it will harm me or help me in countering the issues and the only way is taking precaution and not get infected. Every sporting teams are careful and knows the impact and hence they are making sure they create a bubble while conducting the tournament as any positive exposure means heavy losses and even bankruptcy if the tournaments are postponed.

I think the issue occurs when the vaccine is administered to someone who is already infected with the virus. Most of the available vaccines are of the RNA or viral-vector type. They use genetic material from the COVID-19 virus, in order to initiate a response by the human immune system. For someone who is already having the virus, this can result in a lot of adverse side effects. Another issue is that the virus is rapidly mutating. Some of the strains from Brazil, UK and South Africa are having higher mortality. The BCCI is not going to gain anything by allowing the spectators. On the other hand, it stand to lose a lot in case the players get infected.

Anyone following the Legends series, i find it hard to predict and the only match that i find easy to place a bet is the matches against Bangladesh. India played well in the first match without loosing any wickets and in the second match against England they failed to chance the score and today England is struggling against South Africa and they are shuffling the team members and it is the puzzle .

During the 90s, world cricket was much more competitive. Nowadays, matches are more lop sided with Big 3 + New Zealand dominating over the other teams. However, back then also Bangladesh was a very weak team. Compared to them, Kenya was much better (Steve Tikolo, Maurice Odumbe, Thomas Odoyo.etc). And South Africa was one of the top sides. Even Zimbabwe had a number of great players, such as Andy Flower, Heath Streak, Neil Johnson.etc.
