I have to following asic status in my S2 on chain 2:
Asic status
-------- -------- -------- -------- oooooooo oooooooo oooooooo oooooooo

Other chains:
oooooooo oooooooo oooooooo oooooooo oooooooo oooooooo oooooooo oooooooo

What does the ------- mean?

~ Luc

Sometimes software reboots don't clear the X/dashes for me, and I have to power it off and then back on to get it back to all Os.  SSH to it, do a shutdown -H 0, then power it off for a min or so, then power it back on.

This works for me as well, consistently.

This is just a guess, like to see what others think. The new price for the S2 comes out at about 1.85 per GH/s so I am thinking they just set the price for the S3 at around 1k+?

This should have been $1400 or less. No way would I ever pay more than the $1650 group buy that people received 2 difficulties ago.

Bitmain: Will there be any more firmware updates to the S2 firmware that will make it compatible for use with p2pool?

Also, will the S3's be compatible with p2pool?

Regards.

For those planning to upgrade their S2's . Do you think Bitmain will provide the below parts to use the old hashing boards  instead of having them sit on a shelf ?

Would be nice, if they could sell the following only:
Quote
      1 Power Board;
       1 set of IO Board + BB Board + SD card;
       2 sets of Fans + Fans’ cover;
       1 LCD screen;

Try thinking out of the box?  Keep your S2 intact and buy two S3's  Shocked  magic!

You can think like that when you have access to unlimited power. For those that would like to put as much hashing power as possible on the same outlet, especially if no PSU upgrade is required. It is best to do the upgrade and resell the old hashing boards. That way you increase your hashing power while keeping the power requirements constant.

If you took a little more time reading the quote that I was replying too

"Do you think Bitmain will provide the below parts to use the old hashing boards  instead of having them sit on a shelf ?"

The OP wanted to reuse the old hashing boards thus why not keep his S2 intact as is. Pointless to take the boards out of the original box to stick them in another.

Do you own a S2 to begin with ?

If someone will only be purchasing the new hashing cards, going off what was communicated about the S2 being upgradable. They will not be buying a complete S4* with all the bells and whistles. All that choose to upgrade their S2's will have to remove the old hashing cards to replace it with the new ones.

Therefore since a new and complete S4* was not purchased with the bells and whistles, but ONLY the hashing cards. The old hashing cards that were removed from the S2 will not be used. But if only the specific parts below can be provided, which should be very cheap. Then for those that choose to upgrade instead of buying a new S4* with PSU, case etc. Will be able to use the old hashing boards without paying too much.

*- Used S4 since S3 is being used as the upgrade name for S1 if i remember correctly

The only problem is who would buy the old hashing boards, if a "motherboard" is still needed.  Who would have these

I am having lots of trouble with after market service as well.  Have had a non working S2 sitting in my basement since Monday, just gathering dust because the damn thing won't hash, it could have been RMA'd there and back by now, but instead they make me test different things (I even had to go out and buy hardware to flash a stupid SD card which didn't fix it).  They still will not RMA the damn thing for some reason or another.  I have moved every single piece of it into a working S2 and whenever the backplane, control board, and/or SD card are introduced it doesn't work.  I have told them this many times and still have an email chain back and forth and they are stalling.  It will be over a week of lost revenue by the end of this.  Not happy at all.

Exactly. And most of the cost for complete  unit are more than likely  due to the hashing boards and the PSU.  If we can get only the "motherboard" or the barebone kit minus the hashing boards which would bring down the cost.

       1 Power Board;
       1 set of IO Board + BB Board + SD card;
       2 sets of Fans + Fans’ cover;
       1 LCD screen;

Hell even forget the LCD screen and maybe even the fans. The first 2 items in the list would be enough  and if you already have PSU's laying around reusing the old hashing cards (1Th/s ) would be a cheap enough option.

I like this idea. Maybe minersource, 112bit or jones gear can sell bits and pieces, Like BB, motherboard, blades?

I've been toying with the idea of reverse engineering the backplane and controller to have some fabbed for sale when the upgrades hit.  Only forseeable issue would be getting the bitstream of the FPGA from BITMAIN.

I suppose I could reverse engineer the FPGA's operation too, but I don't have a logic analyzer to even attempt it at this point.
