This is true that New Zealand squad displayed very bad performance in previous first match of this test competition with Sri Lanka squad. As the Sri Lankan players were confident, they were more likely to perform well in the second match as well. But I didn't think Sri Lanka's top order would bat so well. Sri Lankan batsmen got off to a good start. The team managed to collect a huge total of 306 runs with the loss of only three wickets. I know the pitch is batting friendly, but since the team has lost only 3 wickets, Sri Lanka has a chance of collecting close to 500 in the first innings.

Mathews and Mendis will have to bat very carefully in the first session next day. 500 runs will not be a difficult task for Sri Lanka if they start well in the coming days. But I think the result of this match depends a lot on the weather because the South Asian region is currently having rainy weather which makes the game very difficult. Today the match has been delayed due to rain even before the start of the match. Now to see how far the match goes. If everything goes well, I think India team will win this match too.
By the way another important news the best all-rounder cricketer "Shakib Al Hasan" has hinted about his retirement, most likely his last match will be played for the Bangladesh team next month.

The sample size is small but Kamindu Mendis looks like a real deal. In his 6-7 match test career he already got some big numbers under his belt.

-1 daddy hundred + one 100 + 91 in England (6 innings)
-1 50 in Australia (only 1 inning)
-2 100s + one 90s in Bangladesh (4 innings)

He scored all these runs in an away series and Virtually no one hyping and talking about him much. In comparison to PIG-3 players, the likes of Marnus, Brook and Jaiswal got a shitload amount of hype when they scored runs.

PS: To be fair to Jaiswal, it was balanced and more like a "hope" because in India you are considered good if you perform in SENA.

Test cricket seems too easy for Kamindu. 4 5 test tons in just 8 matches and scored 50 in every match ( the first batsman to do that in the history of test cricket).

BCB is richer than NZC? I am not sure about that. But apart from this, there are a few points that I would consider:

1. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka doesn't even have a decent 4-day domestic competition. They have a Club-based structure, that focuses heavily on the cities of Dhaka and Colombo respectively. On the other hand, New Zealand 4-day competition is around for more than a century and is well renowned for its quality.

2. Stats can be misleading. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka may look better than they are in reality. They prepare dust bowls against SENA nations and thereby win matches. Pakistan rarely uses this strategy.

3. In case of Pakistan, there is a region-based 4-day domestic competition. But PCB management changes every 2-3 years and this results in changes to the format and thereby instability.

Is Sri Lanka better than Pakistan? It is debatable. But overall, given level playing field (i.e no home advantage, no injuries to major players, matches organized by neutral boards.etc), I would say that Pakistan is far better.

Back in 2019-20, I remember reading their annual reports and found out that BCB had more assets and they were more competent in generating profits when compared to NZC, I'll come back to that again.

1. There is no comparison between SL-BAN-PAK and NZ or any SENA when it comes to domestic setup. Anglosphere is miles ahead.

2. When i said Bangladesh's stocks are in an uptrend, I meant after the Pakistan series. They still have a mountain to climb but SL are ahead of Pakistan in test cricket, I believe 4-5 years of data is more than enough to judge any team's trajectory. It's not some individual number but results of 4-5 years, I don't think the "Stat can be misleading" argument holds any weight in such case.

You are making it sound like making a dustbowl or green deck is worse than rolling out a highway. We should collectively jog our memory and remind ourselves, what kind of pitches PCB served to Australia and England. Pindi's pitch got demerit points in both series because the deck was dead. Did you forget what Rambo said? He defended these pitches and said we wanted to nullify opposition seamers. If they had spinners then one could hope for a spin deck but that wasn't the case either.
