West Indies batted brilliantly in the first innings of the second Test between West Indies and England.Perhaps their innings was a wake-up call to their fans that they could win or draw the second Test match against England. But no we saw an exceptional batting performance from them in the second innings which was a poor performance to say the least. West Indies managed to score only 143 runs in their second innings. England's young spin bowler Shoaib Bashir single-handedly stymied all the West Indies' batsmen in their second innings. He achieved the feat of taking five wickets in that match, perhaps the first five-wicket haul in his Test career. Due to his outstanding performance in both innings of the second Test match, Ollie Pope was selected as Man of the Match. The England team took the Test series with one match in hand.
The West Indies led by 41 runs in the first innings but were then beaten by 241 runs. Although three wickets fell to make 84 runs in the first innings, the Athanaze and Kavem Hodge partnership helped West Indies to collect big in the first innings. Among the top order batsmen of the two teams, the performance of England batsmen was ahead in this match, but in the case of West Indies, the top order batsmen did not show performance in both the innings. Talking about the second innings, West Indies put in a cheap performance. In the second innings Mikyle Louis and Brathwaite put on 66 runs in the opening partnership, when Mikyle got out, the procession of wickets started. England used only four bowlers in the second innings and the bowlers bowled brilliantly, especially Shoaib Bashir. West Indies need to work harder and bat patiently if they can hope for anything in the third Test.
