Athletic Bilbao wasted a big chance the last time by the way. If they were able to beat Betis they were going to take the fourth position from Atletico Madrid. Because head-to-head games are taken into account first and Athletic Bilbao are ahead of Atletico Madrid about that. But Athletic Bilbao wasted this chance to equalize their points. 

However I must admit Betis can be a really tough challenge. I was just not waiting for them to win by a score like 3-1. Athletic Bilbao defense had a terrible day. If there was a one point or two point difference from the beginning of the season, maybe we would have to wait until the end of the season to see the La Liga champions, but with the current situation of the game, we don't have to wait until the end of the season.

The match against Atlético is more important for Girona and it will be a tight battle between the two teams, and it is difficult to say whether Girona will win this game. Moreover, if the next match is played by Girona against Barcelona, then it will definitely be more competitive because the chances of Barcelona winning here are high. 

But as far as I think the title is not a big obstacle for Real Madrid but we have seen Barcelona lose the match against Madrid before. In football there is many parameters in every match so we cannot say that winning against a team while the rival lose or get a draw against it, might be a good point for them or not. Real Madrid have many injuries and sometimes its players experience poor performance.
Copa del Rey resumed yesterday with Mallorca defeating Real Sociedad in penalties and booked a place in the final match.

Maybe not the defense, could also be the tactical approach of the manager that wasn't effective for the team. Secondly, Xavi Hernandez did quite well with his selection because for them to work as a team to triumph with four goals to nil indeed must have impressed the fans and personally, I was pleased.

I think it makes it safe for now. These may change after a few matches depending on the situation. Girona's matches against Real Madrid could take the championship away from them. They couldn't get 1 point like Rayo and they are far behind now because of these matches. Of course, Real Madrid may lose points. Considering this possibility, Girona should go into every match with championship ambition. They may never get this chance again.

Real Madrid is the best and comfortable team now in Laliga and they are the only team again that is having is best season too, there is no competition to stress them, by now Girona will have admit that the top is not made for them because it's not easy to march down the all strong team at the same time, I see this season as best season for Girona even though they will finish in fourth place because the only thing that matters is to appear in Champions league, and I will be happy to see them as Runner up but it not going to be easy because Barcelona are gradually move up, Girona only have two points different from them and the points gap is too small for Girona to maintain, Barcelona last five matches was good one compared to Girona that won three and loses two so finishing in second place is under probability due to low performance they are having.

I think Girona's Champions League dream has come true. After this ranking, it would be a miracle if they fall below the top four. Because they struggle and the more they struggle, the more they win. There is little time left until the end of the league. From now on, Girona will fight for higher, not lower. It's strange to see that Real Madrid have failed to win twice this season against Vallecano, while Girona have beaten Vallecano twice this season.

I think Real Madrid must learn from Girona to be able to beat Vallencano and in fact it is no longer a public secret that Vallecano will not be able to win against this team. However, if Real Madrid were wiser in securing victory, the point difference from Girona would certainly be much greater than now.

Girona's victory with 3 goals without reply against Vallecano also had the impact of returning to second place in the standings and shifting Barcelona. I think Girona is still not finished competing for second place in the standings and they will continue to try to fight other strong competitors such as Barcelona and Atletico to get this place. But if Real Madrid stops winning the La Liga title, it will be too late this season because Real Madrid doesn't want to lose points like before.

This is what sometimes surprises me. Girona who lost to Real Madrid were able to win against Rayo. While Real Madrid had to struggle to get 1 point against Rayo. So in conclusion, Girona's chances are still quite open to still compete for the La Liga title.  In every match a team is always in different conditions. Good statistics do not guarantee the team to always win. So with a difference of 6 points does not make Real Madrid safe for now.

That is why sometimes it very difficult to predict a game, Girona game against Rayo Vallecano, I still respect Rayo Vallecano the way they hold Girona throughout the first half which I wasn't surprised because of what they played against Real Madrid, Real Madrid find it difficult to win the game, having their early goal give them more confidence that they will win the game but  when the time goes they realised it not what they think, and to my greatest surprised they have poor performance and  before their game against Real Madrid they have lost three consecutive matches which gives me more confidence that Real Madrid are going to win the game.

Of course that's the only way for Girona to totally secure the second position of the league table only if they can be more consistent enough to win all there upcoming matches because right now they are on a very tight position with Barcelona and any mistake of losing any matches could course the team the second position, so in terms like these the only prayer of the both side is for the other to lose match so that they can have more points over them. Considering there upcoming matches I think Barcelona is more on a difficult situation than Girona because they will be meeting Athletic Club on there next match and in as much as Athletic Club may have not gotten to the position Barcelona is but there performance is very impressive so I doubt if Barcelona will be able to win them because if they can draw there match against Granada that's currently at the relegation Area of the league table there chances of wining Athletic club is very low, so if they mistakenly lose or draw there match against Athletic club then Girona will be a bit far ahead of them on the league table.

Girona doesn't need to compete for second place, their goal is to qualify for the Champions League, I mean as long as Girona is still in the top 4 then they will qualify for the Champions League. The point gap between Girona and Bilbao is very high, it is 10 points which seems very difficult for Bilbao to compete with. Girona are not in a dangerous position even though Barcelona are 2 points below them, meaning second place doesn't mean much if it's just about the Champions League.

Girona has been able to secure their spot in the champions league next season but I hope they don't fall back to their former position next season because it takes consistency to be able to remain very solid in top4 since so many teams will be putting their best to ensure they also climb to a better position which they have been dreaming to also have the opportunity to play in the champions League so I think Girona team will have a lot of work to do to be able to fight to remain as a team in the top4 position and will need getting more good players to keep the team from ending below the top 4 in the league each season.

Top 5 goal scorers in La Liga in the last 6 years. Surprising that Messi is still on the list even though he hasn't been in the league for almost 3 years now. Iago Aspas deserves more recognition for his contribution and the same goes for Joselu, who was performing well even in relegation fodder teams.
