On Friday he is expected to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin at World War Two D-day celebrations in France, a potentially awkward encounter given Moscow's strong criticism of Kiev's use of force to quell pro-Russian rebellions in eastern Ukraine. Wonder how this will go , like the other reunion? I hate to say it but Putin will eat his lunch. Our president is an incompetent and weak buffoon.

Seems like Obama's nightmare is coming true. Crimea: check. Novorossia: almost check

A few changes needs to be made: 1. Azerbaijan should be classified as an enemy. 2. Georgia should be classified as neutral. 3. Finland should be classified as enemy.

800 students were released from the Lugansk police academy, after their parents protested outside. The Academy had received orders to recruit them to the national guard. A sulfur production plant has caught fire in the village of Semenovka near Slavyansk as a result of the Ukrainian army shelling the building. Danger of a major explosion in the heavily inhabited area.

They are keeping silent or giving some general answers about what it should be done. I think that the fighters in Slavyansk can wait for Russia to back them openly another decade. The discussion in Normandy is deciding their faith right now and it won't be a happy one.

On this, I agree with you, though I don't like it. The powers that be have woken the genie in Novorossia, and it seems they would try to put it back into a bottle. It all comes down to whether the genie will cooperate. Novorossians said that they will continue their fight for independence with or without help from Russia. It just may mean more unnecessary bloodshed.

You realize there are no more comments like before on the situation in Ukraine from Russian officials? They are keeping silent or giving some general answers about what it should be done. They are not remaining silent. Even today there were protests from high ranking Russian officials such as Pavel Astakhov. But most of them seems to have realized that the Kiev junta no longer listens to the verbal requests.

You know pretty much my opinion on both Ukrainians and Russians so as long as there are nuts with guns killing each other they can do it freely. To bad that both sides have a lot of civilians killed on their list. I don't expect you (maybe bryant or 247crypto) to claim that the bullets fired from rebels are specially design to avoid civilians . But as you said before , you know what this silence means . Syria? The same silence as after the so called "gas" attacks. Edit: merging replies You realize there are no more comments like before on the situation in Ukraine from Russian officials? They are keeping silent or giving some general answers about what it should be done. They are not remaining silent. Even today there were protests from high ranking Russian officials such as Pavel Astakhov. But most of them seems to have realized that the Kiev junta no longer listens to the verbal requests. Sorry but this guy seems like a puppet or a celebrity appointed as a spokesman. On 30 December 2009 Dmitry Medvedev named Astakhov as the Children's Rights Commissioner for the President of the Russian Federation.

I don't expect you (maybe bryant or 247crypto) to claim that the bullets fired from rebels are specially design to avoid civilians . It's not so much about bullets. Most civilian casualties occurred during artillery shelling or bombing by the Ukrainine Army, situated in fields and heights around cities. The resistance is shooting from the outskirts of the cities and out. Most close combat skirmishes occurred at checkpoints, where there were little or no civilians. So would claim that at least the probability of civilians dying from Ukrainine Army ammunition is far higher than from resistance ammunition.

Depends on what you're considering 'happy'. As we can see, Ukrainian (para)military is having tremendous difficulties to supress the rebellion. I think it is pretty clear that it's impossible to do at this point without launching full scale offensive which would most likely cause devastation of several towns and cities and massive exodus of civilian population. Term 'ethnic cleansing' comes to mind. Only way to end this crisis is to immediately halt all operations, sit and talk. However, it's not Kiev and Moscow who should negotiate, but Kiev and their own citizens on the East who are demanding substantial autonomy. Which, so far, has been met only by denial and use of lethal force by the government. Kiev officials must finally step out and take responsibility, instead of playing victims in Western medias and hiding behind propagandistic slogans.

The resistance fighters shot down an AN-30 recon plane near Slavjansk Shooting down technically less-advanced aircraft such as AN-30 using the 9K38 Igla is not a big thing. The AN-30 is not capable of flying very quickly, and it does not have any anti-SAM systems with it. I am more interested about the claim by the DPA that they have shot down two Sukhoi Su-25 fighter jets over Slavyansk. If confirmed, it represents a major breakthrough for the rebels.
