I'm glad to see a positive reaction.

The structure that Phinnaeus Gage laid out is pretty well exactly what I had envisioned.

I think approaching Wikipedia with this would be worthwhile.  A seemingly impossible goal like that would really draw attention.

I could say much more, but it's Canadian Thanksgiving, so I'm being neglectful right now.

I'm back.

1. I think a good working title would be: "Operation donate so goddamn much that they cave and begin accepting bitcoin". That may or may not be used publicly depending on the charity.

2. I'm pretty set on doing this for a charity that has some amount of name recognition. Bitcoin users will see the benefit of getting wikipedia to accept bitcoin donations as much more significant than that of getting the Crohn's and Collitis foundation. Go big or go home, ya know?

Are there any fence sitting charities that you know of, who might be into this?

To reply to the question here, the procedure is basically to bring it up for discussion. If it's non-religious and non-political in nature, it'll pretty much be accepted. In that case, just get them to add a bitcoin donation option on their website, and let us know when it's ready (I would suggest BitPay or BIPS, depending on where they are and what currency they use).

If their not going to use BitPay, then make sure that at least a dedicated Bitcoin wallet address is prominently displayed on either their home page or donation page. Ideally, a Bitcoin logo of sorts would be nice and it doesn't have to be clickable unless it's used on their home page and links to their donation page where a donor would be greeted with the other donation options.

We offer a platform to help college students practice microfinance in the U.S. Students raise small funds to make microloans to disadvantaged business owners in the community next to their university. We've grown from 3 campus MFIs in 2009 to 24 today and we offer several programs to help students including online toolkits, in-person training during site visits, an annual conference, and a year-long fellowship program. Maybe especially the kenija2012-case should be shed some light on directly on the B100 website as it is not really good advertisement if I tell people to check out B100 as I guess the would check out how others qualified to receive the $1000. It's the top link

Other question: What would you guys think about Neighborhood councils? I'm particularly interested for those in Chile and there the one I live at. My "junta de vecinos" has a sports room where there is a Teakwon-Do club for children, grannies meet for bingo and crochet and my land lord asked me many times to join her for yoga sessions (with only women, all at least 20 years older than me ) and there is many activities more.

Anyway I know these juntas de vecinos are always short on money and there are quarters where I guess you could do a lot of good with $1000.

I searched a lot for equivalents of "501" in Chile but couldn't find it. "Sin fines de lucro" means "not for profit".

Maybe the fire fighters would qualify, too? I can check out those. They are quite visible, always asking for donations in the street but the fire fighters center is also quite open door.
