Thank Rassah for posting this where it belongs.

I'm glad to see a positive reaction.

The structure that Phinnaeus Gage laid out is pretty well exactly what I had envisioned.

I think approaching Wikipedia with this would be worthwhile.  A seemingly impossible goal like that would really draw attention.

I could say much more, but it's Canadian Thanksgiving, so I'm being neglectful right now.

Cheers,
Nildram

I'm back.

1. I think a good working title would be: "Operation donate so goddamn much that they cave and begin accepting bitcoin". That may or may not be used publicly depending on the charity.

2. I'm pretty set on doing this for a charity that has some amount of name recognition. Bitcoin users will see the benefit of getting wikipedia to accept bitcoin donations as much more significant than that of getting the Crohn's and Collitis foundation. Go big or go home, ya know?

Are there any fence sitting charities that you know of, who might be into this?

Hey guys. So, our stash is up to $30k now (yay). Of the 5 charities I was personally introduced to, one is still working on it (I guess?) and the other one, after staying quiet for weeks, just wrote me an email saying they are very enthusiastic about getting the donation, and asking what more they have to do (accepting bitcoin would be a good start  Tongue). So... I guess keep soliciting? I swear, I'll never be rid of this damn stash of cash  Undecided

Anyway, just got a PM on the topic

Hello,

My name is Nikos Bentenitis and last Saturday I heard Jason King talk in the Bitcoin mini symposium here in Austin. He mentioned Bitcoin100 and although I was familiar with the organization for the first time I put 2+2 together and I realized there is a non-profit in my neighborhood that would greatly benefit from Bitcoin.

The non-profit is Eqsquina Tango, that builds community through dance, see www.EsquinaTangoAustin.com. Monica Caivano, the director of the non-profit, is very interested and wants to start accepting Bitcoins right away...

I was wondering what the procedure for nominating Esquina Tango.

Thank you very much,

Nikos Bentenitis

To reply to the question here, the procedure is basically to bring it up for discussion. If it's non-religious and non-political in nature, it'll pretty much be accepted. In that case, just get them to add a bitcoin donation option on their website, and let us know when it's ready (I would suggest BitPay or BIPS, depending on where they are and what currency they use).

Thank you!

If their not going to use BitPay, then make sure that at least a dedicated Bitcoin wallet address is prominently displayed on either their home page or donation page. Ideally, a Bitcoin logo of sorts would be nice and it doesn't have to be clickable unless it's used on their home page and links to their donation page where a donor would be greeted with the other donation options.

Another request. Can we use an innovative financial instrument to donate to a charity that focuses on innovative finance?

Our charity is Lend for America (lendforamerica.org). We offer a platform to help college students practice microfinance in the U.S. Students raise small funds to make microloans to disadvantaged business owners in the community next to their university. We've grown from 3 campus MFIs in 2009 to 24 today and we offer several programs to help students including online toolkits, in-person training during site visits, an annual conference, and a year-long fellowship program. We were founded by and still remain within the legal structure of the Intersect Fund Corporation - tax ID #: 36-4636828. The Intersect Fund was founded by students at Rutgers University in 2008 to serve small business owners throughout New Jersey.

Please let me know what other information you may need.

This charity was actually introduced to us by DavidBAL, who found out about us at the Amsterdam conference, and was also at the Atlanta conference.
The first thing I notice, though, is that they don't have a donation page. Hmmm  Tongue

I noticed that these organisations received money, yet there are issues on their pages:
http://www.kenija2012.com/ - gone?
http://antiwar.com/donate/donate.php - has the logo but only offers other payment methods?
https://watsi.org - only has credit card?
http://www.hiphopchessfederation.org/donate.html - ok, there is half the logo visible but searching the term bitcoin doesn't help finding it. Maybe they should be asked to fix that?
https://www.khanacademy.org - requires login to donate? Didn't do that, sorry. Seams weird to have to login for a bitcoin donation.

Allow me to shed some light all on these concerns.

kenija2012 was part of a larger org. at the time, of which didn't embed a bitcoin donation option.

watsi.org is located here: https://watsi.org/about#get-involved

Anti War is here http://antiwar.com/blog/2012/11/27/an-alternative-way-to-help-antiwar-com/ and has an active address: 1M87hiTAa49enJKVeT9gzLjYmJoYh9V98

hiphopchessfederation.org's button is only half there but does work, linking to BitPay. I will send them a kind letter to have them fix their HTML.

"Khan Academy also accepts donations via Bitcoin. You need to log in or sign up before donating. That way we can send you a receipt (and something extra)!" This was brought up at the time during the vetting process to accept them/they accept us. The issue is somewhat mute, but overall they do provide a wonderful service, along with a lot of eyeballs view that site.

Ok, let me quote B100:
Quote
In order to use donated funds in a manner consistent with donor expectations, Bitcoin100 donates the Bitcoin equivalent of $1000 to non-political, secular charities that prominently display an option for supporters to contribute via Bitcoin on their website.

Maybe especially the kenija2012-case should be shed some light on directly on the B100 website as it is not really good advertisement if I tell people to check out B100 as I guess the would check out how others qualified to receive the $1000. It's the top link  Roll Eyes
On Watsi: "prominently display"? Also: Coinbase still didn't get the "Send exactly 1.00 BTC" issue straight. WTH? We discussed that like a year ago? Seriously?
Anti War: "prominently display"? So a blog post from over a year ago is "prominent display"? Ok, so a bitcoin enthusiast that wants to force-feed anti-war with his bitcoins will be able to, but that's not the point of B100, sorry.

kenija2012 is the top link because they were the first endowed with 100 BTC and not $1,000, of which equated to about $600 at the time. We were all excited to finally obtain the first site to accept our challenge (for lack of a better word). That site just happened to be short-lived, though the main site acts as a springboard yearly for other groups of doctors to go to Kenya offering up their free services as they finish up their studies at the university.

On Watsi: "prominently display"?: I guess that's the best they can do. We'll try to be more stringent in the future, the same true for Anti War.

The "Send exactly 1.00 BTC" is in default mode, but when you fill in the box in the line just above it with say 0.2045, the text becomes "Send exactly 0.2045 BTC".

Hey, don't defend it here. We all know that now. Please put some link to such info on the page as clicking on the first participant and ending up at some "this url is for sale" is confusing and bad for B100's reputation.

Other question: What would you guys think about Neighborhood councils? I'm particularly interested for those in Chile and there the one I live at. My "junta de vecinos" has a sports room where there is a Teakwon-Do club for children, grannies meet for bingo and crochet and my land lord asked me many times to join her for yoga sessions (with only women, all at least 20 years older than me Grin) and there is many activities more.

Anyway I know these juntas de vecinos are always short on money and there are quarters where I guess you could do a lot of good with $1000.

I searched a lot for equivalents of "501" in Chile but couldn't find it. "Sin fines de lucro" means "not for profit".

Maybe the fire fighters would qualify, too? I can check out those. They are quite visible, always asking for donations in the street but the fire fighters center is also quite open door.

blockchain explorer.

from the source BTC100 address funds have been syphoned off to a 1Kenya address and then looped through 'empty addresses' (no other trade history) to then reach the end point of

1DwSkYaY3poxAzAiu7ipUqmoTZkq1o57HJ

some direct payments from BTC100 went their too,

so who owns 1DwSkYaY3poxAzAiu7ipUqmoTZkq1o57HJ and why were the funds moved at all in the first place?
quote from btc100 address
"Rassah and Roger Ver (Bit Instant and Memory Dealers) have complete control over all donations currently residing in the Bitcoin wallet having the vanity address 1BTC1oo1J3MEt5SFj74ZBcF2Mk97Aah4ac, awaiting their next destination–a worthy non-profit organization."

AWAITING?? - moving funds is not waiting.
